It might help make AR's $59.3M cash for 2023 seem less extraordinary. Though AR's is fully guaranteed.

Hurts got $110M fully guaranteed. He only played three seasons, so this is the earliest he could sign a new deal. I gather that they tacked on the 5 year/$255M onto his $4.2M base salary for 2023. I suppose one might look at it as 6 years, $259M, or $43.16M, but that's not the way GMs, agents or the media will view it.

Scott Fitzgerald of OTC expects a QB contract to drop this year for $55M AAV in new money.

There are reports that the signing bonus was $23M and change, so Hurts' cap number will bump up from $4.7M to $7M or $8M. Howie Roseman is full of tricks when it comes to writing a contract, though.

As for getting out of control, I am not sure of the context you meant. NFL salaries in general or QB salaries in particular? I console myself with the thought that the NFL has revenue sharing linked to a hard cap. That said, I am taking my family to a Brewers game at the end of this month. I didn't think hard about it as the 6 tickets ended up totaling around $200 (even though I haven't watched a Brewers game in at least a dozen years). Now forking out the money for six tickets to a Packers game or for good seats at a Bucks game would give me pause.

Unlikely in the extreme. Day 3 is more probable, which is where we got guys like Flynn and the Gumchewer.

I think we're going to get Zach Wilson in the Rodgers trade. He's totally unnecessary and unwanted in Jersey, and he's probably a better QB than anybody we could get in the draft. And I'd rather have him than an over-the-hill never-was.

We dress 45, including two QBs. If your starter gets hurt, your backup becomes the most important guy o n the team.

Leather. Zach Wilson makes $9.6 million in 2023. Ww can't afford $1.6 million this year.

If Gute drafts a QB in the first round, he should be fired--immediately. He moved up to take Jordan Love, and Gute has said he's ready to play. What would it say about all that if he takes a QB in round 1. Get some offensive help to give Love the best opportunity to be successful.

I think you have to follow your process as a GM; either you believe in your analysis 100%, or you will rely on luck—and that’s a terrible pressure to live with.
In other words, if Gute and staff find a QB sitting there at 15, and they believe he’s the next Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers or Bart Starr…or BETTER… then they HAVE to pull that trigger.

Love is better than all of the guys in the draft.

Yes, Hendon Hooker and here is how and why the Packers could do so.

The SMARTEST THING FOR BRIAN TO DO would be to trade Jordan Love and - GIVEN several Packer fans think Jordan will be better than Aaron was and lead the Packers to more than 11 playoffs and 1 Super Bowl over the next 15 years - Jordan should return the Packers trade compensation better than:

1) whatever the Jets would pay for Aaron Rodgers

2) what Denver paid for Russell Wilson

and

3) more than what the Rams paid the Lions for Matthew Stafford

and

4) more than the Panthers paid for the Bears 1st overall pick

as Jordan is at least 14 years younger than Rodgers and 10 years younger than Wilson and Stafford and has more NFL experience than whomever the Panthers will draft.

With the draft compensation from Jordan Love, the Packers could not only draft a Tight end or wide receiver in the first or second rounds, but a QB that has excelled against BIG FIVE Conference teams week to week.

Someone like Hendon Hooker, a ball protecting dual threat THIKING COMPOSED QB - like Aaron Rodgers - who played week to week against SEC competition (LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Auburn, etc.) week to week for 2 years and ACC competition (Clemson, Florida State, Pitt, Georgia Tech) week to week for 2 years and made Tennessee receivers like injured Cedric Tillman (son of former Bronco Cedric Tillman Sr.) and Jalin Hyatt look good:

Love Freshman Utah State, Mountain West, 54.8% Completion %, 8 TDs, 6 INTs, 6,9 yds per attempt, 77.4 NFL passer rating

Hooker Freshman, Virginia Tech. ACC 61.1% Completion %, 13 TDs, 2 INTs, 9.6 yds per attempt, 114.6 NFL passer rating

Love Sophomore, Utah State, Mountain West 64% Completion %, 30 TDs, 6 INTs, 8.6 yds per attempt, 110.6 NFL passer rating

Hooker Sophomore, Virginia Tech, ACC, 65.3% Completion %, 9 TDs, 5 INTs, 8.9 yds per attempt, 99.8 NFL passer rating

Love Junior, Utah State, Mountain West, 61.9% Completion %, 20 TDs, 17 INTs, 7.2 yds per attempt, 82.7 NFL passer rating

Hooker Junior Tennessee, SEC 68% Completion %, 31 TDs, 3 INTs, 9.7 yds per attempt, 129.2 NFL passer rating

Hooker Senior, Tennessee. SEC 69.6% Completion %, 27 TDs, 2 INTs, 9.5 yds per attempt, 124.6 NFL passer rating

In any case, the Packers should not exercise Jordan's $20M 5th year option & should exercise their 2025 option on Aaron Rodgers by the day before September 2023 season opener to be able to spread Aaron's $58M option payment over 4 years.

If you can't trade Jordan Love for sufficient value by September 2023, start Love for the regular season and keep Aaron Rodgers on the bench.

Sensible too, as it is more probable than not, based on all the Jordan Love data points, that Jordan fails to perform at even a fraction of Aaron Rodgers 2008 level, where Aaron, despite playing through injury to right throwing shoulder at Tampa in game 4, was near the top of 32 QB starters in nearly every passing category, but 2008 Packers due to loss of 3 significant defensive starters to injury - Cullen Jenkins, Atari Digby and Nick Barnett gave up nearly 100 more points than 2007 and Packers finished 6-10.

In that case (keeping Rodgers as backup to Love for 2023) , Aaron can be there to SALVAGE the Packers' season and carry them to the playoffs once again as he did in 11 of his 15 years as Packer Starter - 11 years in the playoffs over those 15 years is more than any other NFC team or QB over that period - and that is despite the Packers being the only team in the NFL that has not spent a #1 draft choice on a running back, tight end or wide receiver during the 20 year period 2003 through 2022.

Love has more value to the Packers than to anyone else. I would be surprised if there would be one team willing to give up a first rounder for Love, let alone a Stafford-esque trade package.

Also, Hendon Hooker ran an exceedingly simple offense at Tennessee, and was what one may call a system QB. That does not mean that his future is doomed and that he cannot be a great QB, but he is not this great prospect you are claiming he is. He probably would have done worse than Love had he been in Love's situation in 2019. I would not take the risk on Hooker, especially when we don't need to and when we have Love already.

I am pretty sure the very last position player they will draft in the first round would be QB. That is the dumbest thing I have seen this month. And there has been a lot of dumb shit out there.

As far as a needing a backup QB and drafting one. Or possibly a UDFA or camp QB. A QB I liked last year that didn't get drafted for whatever reason, and he threw a lot of passes to our WR, Romeo Daubs. The QB is Carson Strong. I was reading a story about the Eagles paying the most in bonus $$ to UDFAs last year. I didn't know until today that he was signed to the Eagles practice squad after last years draft. He was later cut and is now in the USFL.

Carson Strong is 6'4 225 lbs and had the best arm talent in the draft last year. He threw for 4300 yards and 36 TDs for Nevada in 2021. He had a possible red flag because of a knee injury in high school, but had no issues at Nevada. Obviously, Daubs could vouch for him and he doesn't cost us a pick to try him out. Apparently, he is playing in the USFL as a backup QB with the Michigan Panthers.

Pro Football Network rated him as an early 2nd round pick last year. Since we have no money, he would be a cheap developmental option worth a look. Maybe a small-scale steal.
