Packers Select Penn State CB Kalen King in 2024 NFL Draft - Round 7

The Packers add depth to their secondary.

Kalen King, CB, Penn State

MEASURABLES/PRO DAY:

HT: 5'11" WT: 191 HAND: 8 3/4 ARM: 30 7/8 40-YD: 4.61

CAREER NOTES:

King led the Big Ten with 21 pass breakups as a true sophomore last year, but that number fell to just 12 this past season.

FIT WITH THE PACKERS:

A depth and rotational piece.

COMMENTARY:

The Packers are hoping that he returns to his sophomore form at Penn State. He is good in press coverage but will ultimately get burned with a slow change-of-direction. His best aspect is that he isn't afraid to lower his head and get physical.

Noooooo. Another DB King with terrible instincts. He was the CB I hoped wouldn't be drafted. 7th round, so not much lost, but no. Interesting that Packers felt CB room was ok when this draft was deeper than other defensive groups. Had some good, but smaller/lighter CB's. My gut feeling is he doesn't make team.

MooPack,
I don't know anything about him, but when I heard the name I was just hoping he wasn't Kevin King's younger brother!
But hey, Tramon Williams was a UFA!

He is not Kevin, he is Calen. Maybe that means something?

Come on, he was one of the last picks of the draft, not the 1st pick in the second round. In 2022 he was 2nd team all American, might be a steal, if not who cares.

This was a good pick.
Unbelievable - 2 in a row.
There was some talk at moving him to safety.

Gutey and the boys are likely all over the phones right now piling up the UFA's.
It'll be fun to see that list.

He'll start the season on the practice squad, hopefully.

Or he beats out Ballentine for the last CB spot. He was thought to be a 1st or 2nd round pick until his letdown '23 season and he isn't 21 yet which means he was starting in the Big Ten as a 19 year old true Sophomore and played very well.
