During the course of the season, I thought OL was needing help. When I started reading this OT class was strong, I sort of locked in on wanted an OT with the first round pick. Throughout the draft season, Tyler Guyton was the guy I focused on. After reading up on Jordan Morgan, I got on board pretty quickly. So I'm pretty happy.

Great attitude.

I still wanted Cooper DeJean.

I still do. I believe he is a difference maker in the mold of CW. I believe he is THAT good.

Where did you read on him the analyst barely knew who he was. The pack got a grade of c- on this guy because there were way better guys on the board at tackle when we took him. They questioned this pick

I thought Brian was going to take Jackson Powers-Johnson with the #25. He didn't. I have no qualms about taking Jordan Morgan instead. Morgan has great hands and is light on his feet - much like JPJ. Tackle is at a premium and we have one that has a good upside. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a center later in the draft, Tanor Bortolini, perhaps.

In his pre-draft press conference, Brian Gutekunst did caution us to not get emotionally attached to one player. I learned that lesson last year when I was emotionally wrapped around the idea of seeing Darnell Washington in a Packers uniform. Instead, we got two TE's who are better than I could have imagined who fit our team perfectly. I have no doubts that Jordan Morgan will be a welcome addition inside the team's locker room.

He emulated Bhak's style of play and studied him. One can see his low sets, fast feet and slide to position the edge guy away. 27 reps on the bench. Film showed the similarities. Darnell Washington was the guy who helped chip for Mims when he was on the field for Georgia. A Blocking TE.

It's also interesting that after we passed on Washington, who almost everyone thought the Packers would pick, we got 2 excellent players who had solid seasons. Washington only had 9 catches on the year, not sure if he was hurt or what. I had hoped GB would double dip @ TE and LaPorta & Kraft were the 2 I wanted. It worked out fine.

Cannot really argue with the pick. In my many mocks he usually was not available @ 41. Guess worst case, we have our swing tackle now. Time will tell. Hoping for the best.
Day 2 wish list: Trade up for Dejean. If not, JPJ.
Also Colson at 58.
My 1st round streak of wrong picks at year 25.....

IMO, drafting Cooper DeJean would have been a more excellent draft pick, but Jordan Morgan is still an excellent draft pick. It is needed badly. The NFL website says, "Morgan has the traits and talent to become a solid starting left tackle." Bakhtiari is only 6'5", also.

I'll be watching the Arizona offense videos for 2023, to remind me how good Jordan Morgan is. He was First Team All-PAC 12 in 2023.

After the initial shock and awe, I look forward to chapter two. De jean is still on the boards as I believe many teams view him strictly as a CB. Wouldn't it be something if he lasted to 41? Stranger things have happened. So.... De jean at 41 and best available ILB at 58. Ideally E. Cooper, Payton Wilson or Junior Colsum. I will suspend judgment on Gute until the end of day two. I remain cautiously optimistic.

The sports analyst said less about this guy then anyone else the entire night other then he had a injury history. Something I always blamed Ted T for not paying attention or caring about ones injury history. I see we passed on that 6'7 tackle from Okl they raved about but they said almost nothing about our guy.
Maybe they should have been up straight and said "they picked who?" At least the Vikes Bears and Lions picked guys whose names we can all recognize and who's play is easy to look up.
Does this team even have scouts who know talent or do we just pick guys who show up to the combine?

Pretty much every player has an injury history. If they didn't in college, they will in the pros. No one really escapes that. He played a full season last year after his ACL injury. I think GB docs have cleared this pick as no more likely to get hurt than another guy.

Yes, the names aways work, right? You do know fully 50% of all round 1 picks don't sign a 2nd contract with the team that drafted them? And around 30% don't work out at all. And it's often the biggest names that don't work out.

Not even close John. Morgan was a safe and very smart pick. In my first mocks after the season ended, Morgan was my first pick 90% of the time. Choosing Morgan fills both OT/OG needs and was the right pick to make, although interesting to wonder what offers Gutey turned down to move back.

We are off and running and holding to form so far, OL-Check, LB-?, S-?, CB-?, RB-? Stay the course-Fill the needs.
Even by trading back.

Between the Freddie Krueger and Mike Myers Tattoos and the fact that he potentially could be the Packer very own CAPTAIN MORGAN someday, this is a great pick! Trust the science

I have no problem with Gutey taking Morgan over Barton. This pick is about solidifying OT/OG, which in my view and Gutey's apparently, we think Morgan is potentially better at both positions than Barton. My question/problem all along was if Barton was better than the best OGs in the draft since he was moving inside for sure. I had no doubt he was not in the Top 3 best OCs.

Choosing Morgan is about as safe a pick as we could make filling one of our biggest needs @ #25, OT/OG. The only way better is if we had scored 2 extra picks by moving back, but according to rumors Dallas almost picked Morgan @ #24. So the pick might have been Sua, JPJ, Frazier or even DeJean if we had moved back.

I still believe GB should fill their biggest needs first and this pick starts us on that solid draft plan. LB comes next after a trade back. Then Safety, after a trade back. Get us 2-3 more 4ths & 5ths.

Fill the needs first and finish making a complete, strong, Super Bowl challenging team with no weaknesses. GPG!!!!!!!!!!

Golf,
I have had an OL penciled in at #25 since the end of last season. I would be entirely happy if at #41 and #58, the Packers take any of the following players but the more and more I watch Di Jer' Zhan Newton I am drooling more and more. Yes, the Pack desperately could use a Center like JPJ, or a CB/Safety like Dejean, or an LB like Cooper, but Newton would be an amazing selection for the DL as he is amazingly disruptive. Of course, Newton is not in an area of need for 2024 and he is likely gone within the first 3 picks of round 2.

1. Edgerrin Cooper
2. Cooper Dejean
3. Tyler Nubin
4. Jackson-Powers Johnson
5. Zach Frazier
6. Kinglsey Suamataia
7. Javon Bullard
8.. Patrick Paul
9. Cooper Beebe
10. Kool-Aid McKinstry
11. Payton Wilson
12. Marshawn Kneeland

Newton did not do much against my Iowa Hawkeyes and we did not have a stellar OL the last 2 years.

This years draft just seems to fall right for us by taking OL with the first pick. And even if we trade back we still get quality players @ LB, S, CB, & RB. We can't lose by following that order. It does become harder if we push another position group into the mix because then we are choosing from lesser talented players to fill the actual needs that are holding us back from being a contender.

I would stick to the needs and in that order.

Sure would have been nice to not take another injury prone guy. Our O line had injury after injury last year years. Jenkins is good when he plays but I think he was out of the lineup at least three times last year. Maybe if we would have drafted bigger tougher guys they could have stood the punishment. Now we swing at the fences in round one?
As the analyst said over and over you do not swing at the fences in round one. Who have a guy in mind because you did the work and you take him and live with it. How in the hell did they come up with this guy at their dream pick.
I'm tired of the Gutt we only pick guys who can play two positions bullshit.

What truly impresses me is about Morgan is how hard he worked to get back on the field after the ACL and play outstanding football. In fact, 2023, post ACL was his best season. Impressive. Reminds me of his new teammate, Rashon Gary. Gary was a warrior getting back on the field too.

And the fact Morgan is a two time Captain Morgan at AZ foreshadows an emerging leader for the young Packers Team. Jordan and Jordan are going to be fast friends, I think.

What is a GB first round draft pick - without a chorus of boos and the registration of "disappointments" - from the many amateur GMs? We've heard it - to varying degrees - with:

2019 - Rashawn Gary
2020 - Jordan Love
2022- Quay Walker
2023 - LVN

And now Jordan Morgan in 2024. His addition on the list re-assures me that he most likely will be a fine OT +/ OG for the GBP.

I'm not quite sure why he was taken ahead of Barton, but I won't complain. I thought it would be McKinstry, or Dejean, but apparently there wasn't a single team that thought they were worth a first round pick.

"You ready for this? Cooper DeJean is still available when the Packers are on the clock. And, they DO NOT pick him"

How you like me now? 😁

Pantz like DeJEANs but not at 25, happy with Jordan. DeJean is too stiff in the hips. Unlike me, just ask Sweet Pea about it...she will tell ya.
