Injury Update at Packers Training Camp: Who's Returning? Who's Dropping Out?

Linebacker Joe Thomas and running back Rajion Neal are the newest names to the injury list.

The Green Bay Packers didn't practice on Sunday following the previous day's preseason opener at the Tennesse Titans, but they did have two new players suffer injuries on Saturday evening.

Who's Returning?

Running back Michael Hill, concussion

Hill originally suffered a concussion during the team's annual Family Night event at Lambeau Field the prior Saturday and missed every practice open to the public during the intervening week. He did, however, return in time for Saturday's game against the Titans, playing 14 snaps—according to ProFootballFocus.com—and carrying the football two times for just one yard. It wasn't the most spectacular of returns for Hill, but it was a first step in coming back from injury at least.

Who's Dropping Out?

Linebacker Joe Thomas, knee

After making a nice tackle on kickoff coverage and playing in just four snaps on defense, Thomas exited the game with a knee injury. The undrafted rookie inside linebacker had been off to a promising start to training camp. Per Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, the Packers do not believe Thomas' injury is serious, and he is not likely to need surgery.

Running back Rajion Neal, knee

Even though he had already exited the game as an offensive player nearly a quarter earlier, Neal suffered his knee injury on a late fourth-quarter kickoff return. There has been no word on the severity of his injury, other than head coach Mike McCarthy confirming it was to his knee in the aftermath of the game. Neal could be seen limping off the field under his own power.

Still Out (anticipated return in parentheses)

Safety Morgan Burnett, oblique strain (this week)

Wide receiver Jared Abbrederis, knee (2015 presumably)

Offensive lineman Don Barclay (2015 presumably)

Defensive lineman Jerel Worthy, lower back (indefinitely)

Defensive lineman Letroy Guion, hamstring (indefinitely)

Tight end Colt Lyerla, knee (several weeks)

Safety Tanner Miller, ankle (indefinitely)

Is there anything in the CBA that would prevent two teams playing a pre-season game to effectively play two complete games simultaneously? Given the lack of opportunities for draft choices and free agents under the new rules to show their abilities, it would seem a logical thing to do. Use the home team's practice field for the 2nd game. We see this sometimes in Spring Training with split squad games. Why not football?
