Injury Update at Packers Training Camp: Who's Returning? Who's Dropping Out?

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers missed Tuesday's practice in Green Bay with a head cold, but Coach McCarthy expects him to be back tomorrow.

Obviously any time one of the biggest names in the NFL misses practice, it's going to move the needle and grab headlines. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers missed practice on Tuesday in Green Bay, relegating the rest of the injury report to almost insignificant status.

Regardless, here's a look at the walking wounded in Green Bay...

Dropping Out of Practice

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, illness

Commentary: Head coach Mike McCarthy acknowledged that Rodgers has a head cold, but that he fully expects him to practice on Wednesday. It would appear there's a bug that's circulating in the Packers locker room, but nothing serious. Graham Harrell received most of the reps with the starters at practice, although Vince Young got a couple too.

Cornerback James Nixon, knee, ankle

Commentary: Nixon had actually returned to practice earlier on Tuesday before dropping out later in the session. He missed Monday's practice after being injured in this past weekend's game against the St. Louis Rams.

Cornerback Loyce Means, ankle

Commentary: When taking into account other injuries to Nixon and Tramon Williams, the Packers have gotten a little thinner on the depth chart at the cornerback position. There was no word on the extent of Means' injury.

Returning to Practice

Cornerback James Nixon, knee, ankle

Commentary: After missing Monday's practice, Nixon had initially returned to Tuesday's practice before later dropping out. If nothing else, his attempt at a return probably showed his injuries are nothing serious, but he still wouldn't seem to be fully recovered.

Still Out

The following players' status hasn't changed (anticipated return in parentheses):

  • Wide receiver Jordy Nelson, knee (hoping for regular-season opener)
  • Wide receiver Randall Cobb, biceps (presumably day to day)
  • Cornerback Tramon Williams, knee (a couple weeks, as of 7/30)
  • Offensive lineman Bryan Bulaga, knee (likely out for entire season)
  • Offensive lineman Derek Sherrod, leg (undetermined, on his "last hurdle," according to McCarthy)
  • Tight end Matthew Mulligan, elbow (undetermined)
  • Wide receiver Charles Johnson, knee (undetermined)
  • Safety Sean Richardson, neck (undetermined)
  • Defensive lineman Jerel Worthy, knee (undetermined)
  • Offensive lineman J.C. Tretter, ankle (regular season at the earliest)
