Aaron Rodgers Absent From Packers Training Camp Practice
According to any number of reports from Packers beat writers on social media, quarterback Aaron Rodgers is not in attendance at Tuesday's training camp practice in Green Bay.
The reason for Rodgers' absence is unknown, but according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com...
Was told "everything's fine" with Rodgers. McCarthy will explain the absence after practice.

Still no official word from the team, but there's this from Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel...

UPDATE at 2:44 p.m. CT: Head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed Rodgers only has a head cold and is expected to be back at practice on Wednesday.

Rodgers- "If I can't practice, I can't practice. It is as simple as that. It ain't about that at all. It's easy to sum it up if you're just talking about practice. We're sitting here, and I'm supposed to be the franchise player, and we're talking about practice. I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about practice, not a game, not a game, not a game, but we're talking about practice. Not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game last it's my last but we're talking about practice man. How silly is that?
Now I know that I'm supposed to lead by example and all that but I'm not shoving that aside like it don't mean anything. I know it's important, I honestly do but we're talking about practice. Based on the backup QB play to date, that kind of byline on ESPN could send shock waves to Packer fans everywhere. Is it just me ? Watching several other exhibition games, the 2nd and 3rd string QB's (playing with backup talent not the starters on offense) look so much better than what we have ? They look more poised and have better arms, even Rex Grossman last night looked like he would be welcomed to back up Rodgers.

It's not just you.
But the fact is, TT just doesn't want pay much for a journeyman backup QB like a Grossman. He figures the season is down the tubes anyway if #12 is out for any lengthy period of time. And I kinda have to agree with that. Why tie more money up in the QB spot if there is next to no chance of winning any meaningful games without your starting QB? Makes sense to me.

Have to agree Lou. In general I've seen better play from the opposition backups than from our lads. Now a cynic might say that's not because our QBs are so bad, but that our 2nd and 3rd stringers on D don't compare to the same from our opponents. I don't know, but I'm not counting on much if ARod goes down.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I think there are maybe 3 playoff contending teams (WAS with Cousins, NE with Mallet (though that may be a stretch), and DAL with Orton) in the NFL that have a backup that could pick up where the starter left off, or at minimum hold down the proverbial fort.
Now, I do think we are definitely in the bottom 1/3 of the league at that position, but it's not like anyone below the top 5 backups in the league could carry this or any other team for a moderate to lengthy stretch.

I really was hoping Ted would bring back Hasselbeck to serve as backup this year. But that was wishful thinking.
