Eagles, Nate Allen Agree to Terms

Philadelphia Eagles second-round safety Nate Allen has agreed to terms on a contract, Dave Spadaro of PhiladelphiaEagles.com reports.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Dubbed the “Golden Child”, Allen started his final 39 games at the University of South Florida, tallying 224 tackles and 9 interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. Allen added a quarterback sack, and scored two additional touchdowns—one on a fumble recovery, one off a blocked field goal—during his college career.

Allen earned second-team All-Big East honors after last season.

The 6-0, 207-pound Allen has the speed to cover a lot of ground in the secondary, and is sure-tackler in the open-field. Allen will be given every chance to win the Eagles’ free safety position, which struggled in 2009 with the departure of Brian Dawkins.

Allen is expected to join the rest of the rookies on the practice field on Wednesday.
