Ahman Green Heads to the UFL

Free agent running back Ahman Green is apparently headed to the United Football League.

"We are excited to add Ahman Green to the UFL fold, press release to debut tomorrow", the official UFL Twitter account announced on Wednesday night.

Last month, the Omaha World-Herald reported that the Omaha Nighthawks were targeting the former Nebraska star.

"It looks promising, but I'm just waiting still, keeping my options open," Green, 33, said. "For me, it's not a fallback plan at all. I want to play football. The Omaha team would be a great fit."

A third-round pick (76th overall) by the Seattle Seahawks in 1998, Green played sparingly during his first two seasons in the NFL, returning kicks while adding 329 yards rushing and a touchdown as a backup to Ricky Watters.

Traded to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for cornerback Fred Vinson, Green gained 8,162 yards and scored 53 touchdowns, while adding 347 receptions for 2,724 yards and 14 touchdowns as a receiver out of the backfield. As one of the more complete backs in the NFL, Green made annual trips to the Pro Bowl from 2001-04.

Green joined the Houston Texans in 2007, but the 30-year old was limited by injuries, appearing in just 14 games over two seasons, and rushing for 554 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Last October, the Packers re-signed Green, who ran for 160 yards, eclipsing Jim Taylor's club-record for career rushing yards.
