I hope so, but I wonder who else Hackett will chase among those players we might try to resign, he’s already looking at our coaches.

The Hackett hiring in Denver really paves the way for a Rodgers to Denver trade. Rodgers wants to play for Hackett, Denver can put together a compensation package that includes a relatively low #1 pick this season, and his girlfriend lives there. Rodgers doesn't want to play for a rebuilding team but I think Denver is just and upgrade at HC and QB to be competitive although that's a tough division only getting tougher.

What? Are they throwing in Flacco ? No he went from Denver to the Jets to the Eagles and back to the Jets ( see what an NFL Superbowl QB gets you) Teddy maybe? No. Von Miller - he's gone. Jeudy Fant Hamler - no way AR would want them. It would be a bad trade - any way you look at it unless the Broncos would give up a whole bunch of first and second rounders ( 9) and all of AR's salary including dead money.

"and his girlfriend lives there."

No, she doesn't. She lives in California, as do her parents, including her mother who she is extremely close to. She has NEVER lived in Colorado. She apparently owns some property around Boulder that she EVENTUALLY wants to build some alternative living space.

Both Rodgers and Shailene Woodley are lifelong California residents. If Rodgers gets traded to Denver, which is very possible, it won't be because "his girlfriend lives there"...because she doesn't.

I did. That was just somebody's tweet on a gossip site.

The only reliable info I've found online about her connection to Boulder is that she owns some "property" near there where she wants to "someday" build a self sustainable house on the property. There is no credible evidence that she has ever "lived" in Boulder, part time or otherwise.

I'm actually getting tired of this topic, so please go ahead and believe what you want.

Although QB Love was uninspiring in his two appearances (one a preseason game and the late season game), If I remember correctly neither had him playing with many starters, so it's difficult to get a true read on his abilities. In the preseason every snap was a jail break as the line was all 2nd / third stringers. and in the last game he was also playing with a makeshift line.

Any trade to Denver should automatically include the 25 year old Drew Lock, QB who was a 2nd round selection. He has been developing and would give Love a real battle for the starting position. I would certainly expect Lock would start in this scenario giving Love more time to develop.

If you think back, ARs first two preseasons were disasters. AR had the famed QB School and no covid to % up his preseasons...

Jordan Love has all the physical tools he'll ever need, and while he might not play as well as AR did his first season, I do expect our record will be better. Love will have a lot better OL than AR did in 2008 and 2009! (That's for sure and for certain!)

Bottom line, we can't afford AR or DA and field a decent team. (No matter how good Russ Ball is at his job.)

I'm actually getting excited to see what happens this off-season.

Denver has the 9th selection in Round 1 this year. A premium top 10 draft choice.

So many options. They also have two second round picks (remember would be #9 in Rd 2), a 3rd rounder, a 4th round selection, and two 5th round selections. 11 draft selections overall. They have young talented players (all 26 or younger) such as Patrick Surtain, Fuller, Bradley Chubb, Noah Fant, Jerry Jeudy, or Cortland.

My biggest hope is that if Rodgers is traded that Gutey holds up deal saying unless Adam's is included in trade he will be franchised tagged unless the Pack gets compensation for him. A Jerry Jeudy, WR or one of
those second rounders for Adam's would surve as a Tums for his loss!

Going to be a tumultuous offseason but possibly a phenomenal opportunity for the Packers if Gutey can leverage properly. I hope the Pack can retain Luke G. and keep as OC!

I believe Packers will be more interested in TE (Noah Fant) than in another WR, who are dime and dozen and many good young receivers are draftable in this year draft.

Keep in mind Denver is for sale and several owner groups vying for it. Think this is important! A high profile Rodgers (MVP) led team likely drives price upwards including season ticket prices. Gutey may have additional leverage simply because of this. Might one ownership group be strongly encouraging a trade for Rodgers????

When the stars are aligning in this way, it gives #12 far more power in the process (he can refuse to redo his deal with another team or refuse to play anywhere else)--which can really limit what the Packers can get in return for him.

The number of possible trade partners drops to essentially 1.

I'm anticipating that we'll have to do a Favre-like trade to get rid of Rodgers - more like a 5th rounder and a six-pack of Coors (*shudder*) than the "haul of draft picks" so many here are expecting. Maybe we can get a 5th-rounder and Lock if we're really lucky. Obviously, not an ideal situation for Green Bay to be in, but better than nothing.

True TGR - But you know Denver will be calling, Colts will be calling, Panthers will call, Steelers will call, Miami will call, Cleveland will call... (So will some others...)

There will be plenty of interest in AR, but there are only 2 or 3 teams who could actually pull it off, and the two most likely teams are the Broncos and the Colts, with Denver probably having the upper hand because they hold the #9 overall pick this year in the draft...

I've come to the conclusion that AR will get traded, but I am seriously hoping Gutey has the guts to tag and trade DA as well... (It's what is best for the Packers...)

That’s a good point; I hadn’t considered that angle. I still think there are a lot of countervailing factors: Rodgers age, decline in skills and judgment, his contract situation and the Packers lack of bargaining power. And how much do Rodgers and Hackett really want to work together?

he is the back-to-back MVP. lack of bargaining power?

The bar was set with Matthew Stafford. We get a haul. It's just sad that we didn't get a super bowl too. C'est la vie.

The adjustment in thinking is that we lose Davante Adams to Denver too. Which is sorta sad. 33 is a free agent too. Yikes. They could conceivably walk away with all of them.

Rodgers is not going to another team, either be a Packer or retire! A lot depends on what the Packers do with Adams! Adams will be franchised and kept or traded! All in my opinion. What is the real upside of getting rid of Rodgers, they will give him a new wider spread out contract, if he does not retire! Ball is a real whiz banger with the books!

What has Denver got???? "" Detroit Lions were trading quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Rams in exchange for quarterback Jared Goff, two first-round picks and a third-round pick"""" Lock aint no Goff ( and Goff isnt the best but"" AR has a big salary - and the 9th overall pick is not going to be a 9th if AR is there for the second first rounder. Denver's shelf is pretty bare except their receivers and AR will want them all - even if Adams is part of the deal. Dont think that Denver will throw anything major at AR to get him to move.

They have cap and draft capital and a HC whom Rodgers knows as well as a location he might find more accommodating in terms of his domestic interests.

I’m fine with a Lock trade in principle, but I think he’s got as many problems to address as Love. Cheap competition is one thing, but he’s going into his 4th year on his rookie contract. That makes him a rental most likely and that doesn’t seem to make sense in practice. Need either longer cheap contract if one seeks competition or a more proven player if one is looking to give Love longer.

Lions ate Goff's 25 Mill contract and gave up "a 2021 third-round pick and first-round picks in 2022 and 2023." Those wont be high picks because the Rams are still in the playoffs. Lock is not any sort of answer and they wont give up Jeudy Fant Hamler as AR would want them even if Adams becomes a Bronco. So with the lack of talent on the 7- 10 team now that Miller is gone - what other things does Denver offer. Green Bay can do what Pittsburgh did to get around Ben's big contract and renegotiate other contracts and basically keep other pieces around. If AR is gone they are going to find somebody with some talent Foulds/Cousins?/JimmyG etc to make sure that this 13-3 team doesnt end up in last place because under either Love or Lock that is where they will be. The question is does AR want to be with Lafleur ( whomever the new OC is ) or in Denver. That is what needs to be decided - I say GB

The Lions traded as part of a tear down and swapped cap as part of that, knowing that they weren’t going to use it. They wanted to clear their decks for the future, not acquire Goff other than as a player through whom they could accomplish that. I don’t see this as a comparative that is particularly relevant here.

"AR has a big salary - and the 9th overall pick is not going to be a 9th if AR is there for the second first rounder."

Remember that the receiving team is only on the hook for the cash value of ARod's deal going forward. The Packers have already paid his signing bonuses and other dead money. From that perspective, he only costs about $28M on his current deal in 2022 rather than the $46M cap hit the Packers are looking at right now when you add in his dead money.

Whichever team acquires him will need to tear up his deal and write him a new one right away, but the initial value of his deal (or any players the Packers get in return) are not a function of all that signing bonus money.

I sure hope Rodgers retires or gets traded. I'm weary of his drama.

Just musing here, but I wonder if Hackett will want to deal with 'The Rodgers Show' as a first-year head coach. He needs a quarterback; Lock and Bridgewater don't seem to make muster.
But with all that draft capital I don't think it's a stretch to consider he may want to draft somebody and develop a young QB under his tutelage.

It's possible he's tired of the Rodgers BS too!

While I understand your comment, I think you're looking at it all wrong.

A first year HC which Rodgers loves. Running the same offense Rodgers just learned for 3 years, and is arguably a first ballot HOF'er is a recipe for an immediate turn around in Denver. If I'm Hackett, it's a dream scenario. He could have AR for the length of his first contract. If I'm Hackett, I make sure I draft a QB this year to groom behind AR.

The Packers biggest mistake is thinking AR was done and drafting Love too early.

If Gutey has the guts to Tag & Trade DA to the Broncos as well, Hackett, AR, and DA are set up for 3 or 4 year run, and the Packers are set up to move on rather painlessly with plenty of cap space to accomplish their mission. Win/Win!

I respect your perspective, and I don’t disagree with your logic.

"If Gutey has the guts to Tag & Trade DA ...”

Clearly you understand the Packers are loath to use that tag, although that would be the best way for them to get maximum value for Davante, should he leave. I’d be surprised if they tagged him, but this Rodgers drama has been full of unexpected twists. In a way, DA has become a cast member due to his impending free agent status, and it will be quite interesting to see how Green Bay deals with both Rodgers and Davante.

That written, neither of us knows what Hackett really thinks about bringing Rodgers in. But it makes for lively off-season banter, thanks! Peace. -JQ

You're right, I don't know how Hackett feels about AR, I'm only guessing. Gutey has done a lot of things so far that TT didn't do, and even TT tagged and traded a DT... (Corey Williams)

I think every GM should tag and trade at least one player and DA seems like Gutey's perfect opportunity. ; )

My dream scenario is trading both AR/DA to Denver, they're both happy about joining Hackett. Win/Win... Especially with a decent compensation package.

It won't be too long before we find out how it's going to go. If we don't tag DA, we should at least get a Comp pick for him next year. ; )

This completely out of left field- assuming Rodgers leaves. Whatever. If Packers could get Kirk Cousins- then what? I’ve always found it hard to hate this guy. What is it’s a fit and packers have the pieces on D? Eliminate the hire for quota ST coach and get a kings random of picks, free cap space to sign quality established guys and p put cousins at qb. Can this work? I think you obviously lose something going from a rod to cousins- but if cousins can spot Lazard wide open and throw to him in payoffs and move the chains? Why not? Rodgers cant/won’t anyway - so that idea of a new above avg qb running lafleur offense with solid surrounding cast seems like an idea that might work. Then we don’t need to wonder about the drama of QB12 - is become sort of tiresome and beyond the control of anyone not named Aaron Rodgers. Just a thought….
