There are many good WR's available this year.

My favorites are Jameson, Dotson, Garrett, Pierce, Watson, Olave, and Calvin Austin. There are more as well!

Love to see Calvin Austin if available in 3rd. Such a great gadget player and returner.

Agree Burks and London are good players. I like Burks more. Any of these guys mentioned would be great additions, however seems like these guys have a lot of similarities as Lazard, and even somewhat ESB.

The Packers need a do it all WR that scares the bgibbers out of defenses. Olave (will be a good WR but not great) won't do it nor any other with exception of Jameson William's. Gutey need to be bold and seriously go for it!

A Jameson with a Burks, or Pickett would be awesome. However, there are many many options with WR combinations that would work very well. You could pick up a Burks or Pickens and a Calvin Austin to take the top off, or a Pierce, etc.

PFF has 16 in their top 100. Shouldn't be too hard to come up with two of them in 5 picks. Quite a few with the size the Packers like too:

"Is this the new norm for receiver classes? While this year’s WR1, Drake London, would have checked in behind the top three from the 2021 class, the sheer depth of receivers with size in this draft class is staggering. In last year’s second round, four of the five receivers drafted were 5-foot-9 or shorter. That’s not going to be the case this year.

Prospects like George Pickens (6-foot-3), Justyn Ross (6-foot-4), Christian Watson (6-foot-4), Alec Pierce (6-foot-3) and Jalen Tolbert (6-foot-1) should give Day 2 of the 2022 class a decidedly different feel."

It's not just a re-tool for now. Lazard and Cobb are free agents in 2023. Have to think long term as well. There are a lot of questions in other areas as well. Both starting safeties could be gone in 2023.
I would not trade any picks to move up for anyone. If Jameson were to fall to 22, would take him in a heartbeat. May redshirt. Burks at 28 as well. Just put the ball in his hands and watch him work.
Although he is a tight end, would love to see Charlie Tolar in the green and gold.

I could not agree more bout Jamerson (if health checks out). Getting a top 10 receiver in exchange for pick 22 and having to wait 1/2 year for him to heal is a great return on value.

If I am Gute, I would go for either the highest ranking OT and WR with the first 2 picks. In each of the last 2 NFC championship games, OT has been our achilles heal as our offense has been stymied. Build the wall around Rodgers and we will have a much better chance to go to the Super Bowl.

Well, if you come out and pass the ball 34 times vs only 20 runs against a defense like the 49ers in freezing and windy conditions not condusive to throwing the football, it doesnt matter if you have 2 Orlando Pace clones in their prime its going to be a rough day. No olineman is going to shut down a guy like Bosa if he knows the offense is passing most of the time. The tackles were put in a position to fail against a far superior opponent.

No shit. Matt LaFleur needs to self-scout in the worst way. I’ve never been so pissed off about throwing it all over the goddam place since Mike Sherman and Favre… I talked with Ahman Green about this at my studio years ago. He’s an awesome guy. Failing to give Ahman the rock, with Henderson leading the way? Whooooosh. We left super bowls on that table.

Don’t tell LaFleur to take a good look in the mirror. Been saying that for a couple years now for these very same reasons. Apparently, he’s getting lost in his manscaping, with a fucking beard trimmer, forgetting why he’s there…

Patriots just got Davante Parker for a 3rd next year. And got a pick in return as well. How does Gute not beat that? Parker is a legit WR that will be better than any draft pick we get. Same mistake as not going for OBJ last season. Just don’t get the reluctance to pick up good players on the cheap.

He's a slow motion possession receiver. They already have Lazard in that spot. Speed. The packers need additional speed on the outside, not a plodding possession guy.

also too, they need to hit on the draft picks so they can manage the cap. they need some guys to stick and be good on a first contract. 4-5 years of quality play on a low tier pay scale.

There's no chance in hell they go into the season with what they've got now and rookies. They have to sign a veteran, rookies are too unpredictable and take a while to learn the ropes. They'll have to pay some veteran, that's certain.

Parker is not slow. He ran a 4.45. Lazard could only dream to run that fast. Parker has had a 1000 yard season and has caught a lot of footballs in the NFL. He could easily be a #1 receiver with Rodgers.

Next up, Fuller. I hope they sign him or trade for someone better.

I don’t know how this “Allen Lazard is slow” stuff started, but here’s the score.

Lazard is a big guy with long legs and when he’s in full stride, he’s moving pretty fast. Player profiler puts him in the 88th percentile . He’s credited with a 4.55 40 time there. So Lazard is 0.1 seconds slower , over 40yards, in his underwear, than Parker, who is much smaller.

0.1 seconds. It takes 0:2 seconds just to blink.

Lazard is not a slow guy.

All those WRs listed above, and in Roadcap's video, would be good for the Packers. I also like Tyquan Thornton, out of Baylor, in maybe, the 5th Round. His speed and ability to get downfield would be just what the Packers are looking for if they want to find a replacement for MVS. He would be a speedster on STs, as well. I think Bisaccia would welcome a fast gunner on his squad. Love Alec Pierce, in the 2nd, or 3rd round, too. Olave should be the guy we go after, if he is there at 22 or 28. It always seems the board falls differently, than expected, on draft day. Gute will do what is best for the team., considering we also need a Safety and and Edge rusher. Have faith, Cheeseheads! GO PACK, GO!!!

I like the way you think.
With the Packers having many draft picks in the mid and later rounds,
there could be a lot of "Diamond in the Rough" players available. IE: Donald Driver.

It's like rabbit hunting. Use a .22 if you are confident. Use a .410 if you want to increase your odds.
Draft - package picks and move up to get the guy you want or stand pat and draft as many players as possible, expecting one to make it.
I preferred the .22 approach, but came home empty handed more often than my buddy who carried the 410.
I'm not sure which strategy is best so "In Gutey We Must Trust!"

Without question the Packers will end up with good WR's this year from draft. There are too many good WR's out there from round 1 thru middle rounds if not later. As we all know success at WR likely comes more from having the right combination of WR's. As MLF recently said "Adam's was the separator" and MVS was guy who took the top off defenses. There are so many WR's in this draft that can play these roles. Gutey does not need to do any trades to achieve getting these two WR's. Packer Nation will be happy with almost anyone he drafts.

However, if he wants elite WR's that defenses fear and who are game changers more than likely he will have to do at least one trade. I will be very curious and interested in what Gutey does. I believe in his decisions unlike with TT.

With above aside I'd actually like 3 talented WR's in this draft. One whose draft stock dipped maybe because of injury, or possibly due to QB, or from coaching changes, etc.

Therefore, what do you think of a guy like Justyn Ross from Clemson? Super talented WR who started off with a bang his freshman year catching 1,000 yards and 9 TD's. Had great Sophomore year, however then he has an congenital fusion neck/spine condition (yes, I know these type of things can end careers, but apparently his isn't that extreme), so he sits out 2020. Then last year (2021) he plays and Clemson minus Trevor Lawrence is horrible on offense and he has 514 yards and 3 TDS.

DJ Metcalf had neck concerns as well coming into league. I'd like to see the Packers draft two WR's in rounds 1 and 2, but then take either a guy like Calvin Austin (super twitch and fast WR) in say round 3 because he is so small, or maybe a guy like Justyn Ross in round 4 or 5. Why not take a flyer on a very talented WR like Ross if you can get him as your 3rd WR in draft in the mid to later draft pick. Think it would be worth the risk/reward. Obviously medical profession and Clemson coaching staff felt it was safe for him to continue playing. What is everyone else's thoughts?

I have a lot of thoughts on the subject of drafting a 1st round receiver for the Packer this year. With the Packers, it happens on rare occasions. I think this year will be one of those rare occasions.

In fact,,,I could write a long article about this topic from the research I've put in.
But for making a commentary post for Cheeshead TV, my intent is to add to a point from the well constructed talk on video, of this subject.

History is always the best way to determine the future.
Let's take a snapshot view of Packers picking up first round Wide Receivers in the past.
But keep in mind, Packers have a rich tradition of having great Wideouts on it's team, starting from Don Hudson in the 1930's. I'm not going to start that far back. I could start back to my first awareness of the receiving core in the 1960's with Bart Starr tossing the ball to players like Boyd Dowler, Carroll Dale, Max McGee. Hell, you can even throw in Jerry Kramer and Paul Hornung for that matter. Let's start from the 1970's though...
James Lofton - Drafted 1st round, 6th overall pick. That was a great pick! 880 yards 6 TD's his rookie season. The Packers later required the services of none other than "JJ" John Jefferson who was also a 1s round pick, all though picked by the San Diego Chargers.
There was only one pick 1st round WR pick in the 1980's - Sterling Sharpe, 7th overall pick in the 1988 draft. His Rookie season stats - 55 receptions for 791 yards. Well worth a 7th overall, 1st round pick.
And the Last time the Packers picked a Wideout in the 1st round NFL draft was Javon Walker in 2002, the 20th overall pick. A talented receiver but his rookie season only had 43 receptions for 319 yards and only 3 TDs his rookie season. Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Greg Jennings, and Devante Adams, ALL second round picks had better rookie season than Javon did.

This is a talented Wide Receiver class in this NFL Draft.
My thinking is that the Packers will use a rare 1st round pick on a Wide Receiver, and possibly 2 or even 3 more in later rounds.

The balanced approach would have us using the extra picks we got from the Adams trade on WRs, and our own picks on the rest of the team.

Take your best WR at #22: double dip at 53. In every simulation I run, I get two very good WRs this way.

This is the way. Even if he has to reach a little bit for a guy he should use the draft capital he got from Davante to try to help replace him.

If a Devin Loyd, Jordan Davis, Devonte Wyatt or George Karlafis were sitting at 22 I might decide to use the 28th pick on a WR instead but other than those 4, I'm taking the BWRA at 22 and 53.

My pool of WRs may differ from some but here my list.

1st tier
Drake London
Chris Olave
Jameson Williams
Treylon Burks
Christian Watson

2nd tier
George Pickens
John Metchie III
Garrett Wilson
Alec Pierce
Calvin Austin III
Jalen Tolbert

3rd tier
Justyn Ross
Tyquan Thornton
Romeo Doubs
Velus Jones Jr.
Bo Melton
Charleston Rambo.

Haven't had the same amount of time to research draft prospects this year but I have looked at as many WR prospects as I could and this is how I see them stacking up. Sure I missed a couple but for the most part these are the draftable WRs I like for GB. Hopefully they grab 2 before the end of Day 2.

NoNonsense,
Totally agree that should a great defensive lineman/edge rusher be there at 22, or maybe even an OT I wouldn't hesitate to take them before a WR. However, the exception might be if Jameson William's was there. I'd certainly have to weigh who would have biggest impact. Jameson is only WR I see in draft who is on a completely different level than the other WR's. After William's I think most of the WR's for the most part are close and you can mix and match and come up fielding two very good WR's.

The only one you mention I'm not in agreement is London. I may have to go back and watch him again but other than size I wasn't wowed. Presently, wouldn't spend either of round 1 picks on him. Just me! I know some have him rated high. Doesn't make me right of course and always good to get different perspectives.

I rarely see things different than Letterhead but going to slightly disagree this once. I say if Packers do not (I think they will) pickup a veteran WR this offseason than with Cobb and Lazards contract situation after this year the Packers definitely should pick up three WR's this year in the draft. The 3rd WR should have a 'high upside' but for whatever reason (maybe like Ross or Calvin) fell to mid-rounds providing great value. We all know 99% of WR's take several years to develop. I don't think the Pack should put off drafting that extra WR if they are talented. They enter draft with 11 selections and have virtually nothing at WR right now. Cobb for sure gone next year. Lazard? Don't believe two drafted WR's are enough and need to implementlong-term plan now. I also believe the Packers need to demonstrate to Rodgers their commitment to providing him WR talent hopefully get 2nd season and maybe even that extra 3rd season out of him.
Thanks!

DK Metcalf will cost as much money as Adams plus 2 draft picks. Not worth it. The obvious fix is through the draft
and luckily there is a ton of options all 7 rounds. I love Christian Watson, Jamison Williams, Treylon Burks, Chris
Olave, Jalen Tolbert, George Pickens. Any other year these are all 1st round picks. Watson and Williams are my draft crushes and I would spend both 1st round picks if they were available. The smart move would be to grab one @ 22 and trade back to early 2nd round picking up a 3rd and 5th round pick. We could really kill the draft
with as strong as it is through round 6. Some other intrigueing options I have read are available through trades CHEAP are Denzel Mims (Jets), Jalen Reagor (Eagles), and N'Keal Harry (Patriots). All three very high picks that Green Bay were hot on. I also have read any of the three could be had with a 7th round pick, I like Mimms the best. None of the three have done anything special BUT they haven't had Aaron Rogers throwing to them either.
Maybe a couple really cheap options well worth a late pick.

When was it, 2001, when Ted drafted CBs in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounds?

Do you think Gute will do the same with WRs this year?

And if he does, what will you say?

No. It was 1999, and Ted wasn't even the GM. We took Antuan Edwards, Vinnie Clark, and Mike McKenzie.

McKenzie started for us for several years. Edwards was a decent backup. And we traded Clark for Ahman Green.

Gutekunst may well draft a WR in the first and second rounds. We have the extra picks that we got for trading Adams.

Williamson from Bama is the only prospect I see that has JaMaar Chase, Justin Jeffires traits. Lots of good prospects, but only that 1 looks truly special. Even waiting out the injury he is the pick to make if available. Back him up later with someone who can play right away.

Agreed Bama!

Just don't see him available when Pack on clock at #22. If Jameson isn't taken in that #15 - # 16 spot I can definitely see a team leap frog right before the Pack is on the board at #22 to take William's.

If Jameson was available at 22 and the Pack chose not to select him I think my head would explode. I say this when I normally never have a strong attachment to a player and believe in the Packers acquisition approach. However, I strongly believe Jameson is meant to be a Packer and would help make the offense explosive. Obtain a WR like Jameson and add a 2nd WR like Dotson, Kahlil, Skyy, Velus Jones, Burks, Pickens, or Danny Gray and would the Packers be ready to lite it up.
