Thompson\'s \'To Do\' List...

...after he gets back from the annual NFL meetings.

  1. Resign Greg Jennings
  2. Sign Kevin Carter
  3. Produce a knock-out draft class (with either B.J. Raji or Michael Oher in tow)
  4. Trade for Tony Gonzalez
  5. Resign Tramon Williams
  6. Resign Daryn Colledge
Now, there are plenty of other things I would LIKE to see Thompson do (ie trade for Shaun Rogers) but I'm trying to keep this as close to what I think Thompson might realistically try to do. (And yes, I think trading for Gonzalez is very realistic.) And yes - there is no 'Resign Nick Collins' on my list...
I realize some of you may take exception and/or have differing thoughts. Since it is absolutely dead at the moment, and will most likely remain so while the owners meetings are going on, have at it in the comments and let me know what you think Thompson's To Do list should look like when he gets back from California...

I like the list. There should be zero Collins talk before it is determined he can even read the new play book.

Do we know if the Packers have interviewed Andre Smith? He's probably going to be there at #9 and I'd love to know what the brain trust is thinking about that. I'm not saying I'm in favor of taking him but rather just interested in if we talked to him. We'll never know what TT thinks until after the draft as I'm sure there is much gamesmanship going on.
Also, you don't have an OLB on your list. This seems critical to me. I would absolutely take Raji at #9, but I'd look hard at trading down if Raji, Orakpo, Brown, etc are all gone. Unless TT has a trade up his sleeve but I doubt it

I hear you on OLB, but I think Thompson is expecting someone to emerge from the likes of Hunter or Thompson. As for Andre Smith, I am intrigued as well as to what they do if he's the last stud tackle standing when they pick. I mean, you have to take him, don't you? As for if he's come in for an interview, they have only brought one player in so far (a most-likely-to-be-undrafted WR) and don't forget - they famously didn't bring in A.J. Hawk the year they were targeting him, so anything goes in that area...

Can't argue with the list, but I'd move re-signing Colledge up ahead of re-signing Tramon and trading for Gonzo. As we saw, guards are hard to come by on this team and Colledge was the best one on our roster. back-up DB's are easier to replace than starting guards.

Yeah, I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm starting to think you have to take Smith also. As someone on the NFL Network said the other day, 3 years of tape doesn't lie. I do believe in this case TT will want to talk to him first tho.
On OLB, I'm not as content with the current roster as you are. I've tried really hard to stay quint until everything plays out but Hunter & Thompson are not the answer. I hope there is a plan B

Andre Smith = Giant Attitude issue. Dropped out of the Combine and left early. Did not impress at Alabama" Pro Work out day (fat and slow). Much safer to take a guy like Oher - has brains and physical skills.

College has never proved he is a consistent starter yet alone worth resigning early. Show me something first.

Jennings yes but, I'm afraid his agent has other ideas.

Carter please, please, please!

I'm ok with Williams because he doesn't have an official contract.

Draft I'm hoping for a draft where need is king.

Ron - did you read the book about Oher? He might be intelligent but he has a learning disability. I wouldn't take him until the 5th round.

Did you hear what Pat Kirwan said about Smith - he does everything bad but run and pass block. I wouldn't take him at 9 but he is someone who can turn out to be a great pro. So I think it's a wash if we pick him

I'm thinking if Crabtree is there TT will take him - gives him leverage against Jennings and you know TT hates to pay WR's.

Kirwin, that's who made the quote I noted above. Thanks Stan. I think he compared Smith to Mike Mamula. Mamula was the opposite of Smith in that he looked great in the drills, the Wonderlick, the interviews, but he was very average as a player. Again, three years of pancake blocks on tape does not lie. TT should at least talk to the guy before making a judgement.

I would have a parade through Staten Island if we landed Smith. The Combine is a load of BS. Who cares? How has Tony Mandarich not come up? If Smith is there, we have to take him.

Aaron, you know how I feel about Tony Gonzalez. Great player, but a pass catching TE is just gravy and I doubt the Chiefs will be giving him away.

Andre Smith should be like craigslist, get someone on the phone or face to face before you make the deal.

Agree with Ron - Colledge has no business being on this List. None whatsoever!
