Thompson Faces Media For First Time Since Season Ended

The Packers general manager was his usual low-key self at the podium in Indianapolis.

Another year, another media session with Packers general manager Ted Thompson and his special brand of public speaking.

Some quick takeaways:

  • James Jones and James Starks are "in the group of guys we'd like back."
  • Guard play is important to the offensive line and offensive football in general.
  • He appreciated my question about the string of recent heartbreaking loses and the involvement of young guys in each.
  • He did not appreciate my question about reports that McCarthy is frustrated with his lack of involvement in free agency. "Yeah, I don't know where that came from." It took everything inside me not to point at Bob McGinn a few rows ahead of me and say "Him. It came from him."

You can see Ted's entire podium appearance here. (My first question comes at the 2:15 mark)

Thompson met with local reporters in the hallway after his podium appearance and answered a few more questions that we'll link to and cover later on today.

The highlight of Ted's time in the Media room was undoubtedly the following:

Next up, Mike McCarthy.

My favorite:

Ted: Did that answer your question?
Nagler: Somewhat.
Ted: Good, those are the type of answers I want to give.

Brilliant...

He's the NFL's Gregg Popovich. Love it!

No. Belichick is the NFLs Pop.

TT doesn't have enough titles. And he's not usually an AHole. :(

Honestly, I think Pops has crossed over to cool status (perhaps not of his own choosing). It's a running joke with him and the sidelines folks.

Loved his response to Calvin Johnson. Where he says that 'he's still a very good player. There's a part of me that hopes he gets the note that I think he should retire.'

We need more of this from Thompson!

Every time I hear TT talk, it sounds like he does a lot of dope. Other than his dry humor, there really isn't much information.

Exactly. And what happened to him? A slap on the wrist. The owners are such hypocritical bastards. I wish those self entitled rich A Holes would be treated just like the rest of us. That goes for the people who buy our politicians too. And the politicians themselves.

Oh wait, wrong site. Sorry. ;)

Irritates me that Now TE is finally discussed.

I liked Thompson's answer to Lance Allen's question outside the media room. Allen asked if Thompson would be needing to draft a TE. I'm paraphrasing, but TT answered that if he made a list of all the positions he needs to fill, it might be a long list, and reporters would ask him how he'd address those needs in the draft, and then TT would reply, "I don't know" and "start crying and go home."
