Why would we pay him big bucks? We hardly used the guy?

He was already set to make 1.54 million, if they think hes got a bright future then another 1.01 million isnt all that much for an ascending player.

One thing I do know is if they do match it they will start using him more, maybe as a dime LB or in some kind of 3 safety look. Ted wont pay that kind of money to a backup/special teams guy, he must have a bigger role.

That is the issue: is Richardson ascending? I've seen little evidence of it. But I agree with you and I would listen to the coaches to see if he can play a bigger role.

I think there is no question he's ascending...now at what trajectory and to what final level is the question. But from where he started undrafted, to the injury, to his role on special teams last year, he's most definitely ascending.

I think there's a reason that players like him and Bostick don't see the field. They just don't get "it".

The difference between Bostick and Richardson is that TE was a much weaker spot than Safety in 2014. Bostick played little despite the Packers looking for contributions from his position. Richardson played a little despite the Packers getting good production from his position from Burnett, Clinton-Dix and Hyde ahead of him.

Richardson did manage to find his way on the field for 10% of the defensive snaps. That means the Packers saw something in him that they could use. One of those things is providing a fall back plan if the Packers are unable to find a cover LB in the draft or better run support in "Big Okie" nickel package.

He's a developing player on a team that plans for player development to improve. I hope the Packers bite the bullet and match the offer. Especially with two DBs already gone and another still pending (Bush).
