Let's put Mathews in the middle where he should have been his whole career and get datone and Perry, the bust brothers to eran there money! If they dumped both oh them the D would actually improve, right Dom!

U guys on board with Dix being a liability yet? He couldn't be more consistent being late in coverage over the top, missing tackles in the open field, and taking bad angles to the ball carrier. Once again clinton-dix as the single high safety came in unblocked with a poor angle on forte and turned what should have been five yard gain into a 25-yard gain, nearly a 70 yard gain. Later on, he was one on one with Jay Cutler in the open field and got juked out of his drawers and came up empty. J m************ Cutler!
What's the upside here? He did make a decent high effort play in the backfield late in the bear game. But he's had a terrible 1st 5 games this year. His rookie year, contrary to popular opinion was not good. He was making the same mistakes then. 3 lucky interceptions and a bunch of missed tackles, long completions, and big runs.
Looks like Mike has again taken my advice and finally moved Perry inside. He is a better 3-4 DE than he is OLB. But where he'd be most effective and is most needed in this defense is next to Clay Matthews at middle linebacker.

Perry AND Jones would look better on the bench, rather than ANYWHERE on the field. Why does it take so long to get rid of the first round busts on defence. Ted, you blew it with the defensive players you have drafted. Admit it and move on!

Because they are not busts. They have under-performed compared to their draft status, but they are legitimate NFL players who would make most teams 53. Stop exaggerating and/or trolling.

I'd like to ask a rather ignorant but sincere question here...
Clay is going to be in the middle now way more than planned.
The Pack lacks a serious OLB threat opposite Peppers.
Since the committee opposite him is average...why not line up Datone as the ROLB? Yes it's a 3-4 defense, but typically there are 5 guys on the line of scrimmage. He specialty is supposedly rushing the passer and since he is bigger presumably he could "hold the edge" better than the failings we have witnessed. The downside is he can't drop into pass coverage. I get it. But damn isn't that the least of our problems? Seems like a big dude like that could at least jam someone at the line (TE, whatever) that a team would potentially put out there to create mismatch.
Just tired of watching runs to the outside and no consistent pressure from anyone but Peppers at the position.

If they're not going to re-sign Perry, why not see whether Elliott or Mulumba might be the guy. If not, then they'll know soon enough.

Datone was terrible against the run last year as a DE. Not sure whether he could improve and set the edge as an OLB. I assume that he can't drop into coverage, at least without some practice, and he may not have the ability to change direction necessary in an OLB. If so, it means that he has to rush. Unfortunately, that is pretty much the case with Peppers, so there wouldn't be much surprise or flexibility possible for Capers to mix it up with Datone and Peppers at OLB. No one seems to know how much Datone weighs. Last year there were reports that he dropped from 285 down to 270 by season's end. Just my 2 cents.

Well, it looks like it's going to be "Next man up." for the Packers. I really hope Nate Palmer is ready. He will be tested this week with Lynch up the middle and Graham crossing from the outside. We'll know after Sunday whether or not we have to go outside the organization to get ILB help.

They are going to have to get Jake Ryan ready sooner than they thought. He'll make some rookie mistakes, but he's a better player than Palmer or Barrington.

In defense of Clinton-Dix, I don't think we should give up on him just yet,did Nick Collins make an immediate impact? I don't recall that he did , let's give Ha Ha some time to settle in , I think he is the real deal just over aggressive at times.

Very few Packer DB's have been an immediate success. Morgan Burnett struggled for the first couple of years. Nick Collins was a disaster at the beginning.

I can't believe all the love for Richardson I see on this and other websites. Thanks Brian for dashing some cold water on this. You don't go as far as I do, though. I don't think he can play CB, SS, FS, and isn't big enough to be an ILB. He should be able to be a spy against Seattle. Otherwise, he is a ST ace only, and we should stop trying to justify that last $ million of salary we paid trying anything to get him to play some defensive snaps.
