Packers Question of the Day: New No. 1 WR in Town?
While Jordy Nelson continues to age, he still seems to have no problem getting open and creating separation down the field. However, don't look at a stat sheet to tell you that. More often than not, that's not where Brett Hundley is looking.
Meanwhile, Hundley's formed cohesion with receiver Davante Adams, whose rise to excellence the last two seasons has been well-documented and beyond impressive. He's also playing in a contract year, riding the coat tails of his rookie deal.
Is Adams the Packers' new No. 1 wide receiver?

D. Adams might be our best WR. That seems like a close call.
Is D. Adams a #1 WR? Another close call - I'd say he is probably a low end #1 or a good #2.

I wouldn't necessarily say that Adams is the number 1, but I think him and Hundley have built a really good rapport with each other.
Since Hundley has taken over as the Starter Adams leads the Packers receivers with 14 catches for 155 yards and 1 TD.
Cobb would be next with 8 catches for 125 yards and 0 TD's. Followed by Nelson with 8 catches for 68 yards and 0 TD's.

Pay him sooner rather than later. His route running, particularly at the snap off the line of scrimmage, is elite. I've never rewound the DVR to watch a WR at the snap more than I have with Adams. He can make that part of his game fun to watch.

Jordy and Rodgers have been on the same page, for years. Jordy and Hundley have not. There is nothing wrong with Hundley hooking up with Adams, especially if he feels more comfortable with him. Jordy is most likely drawing the opponent's best cover guys. So, Hundley knows he may have a better shot at a completion with Adams. I love Jordy, don't get me wrong. Adams seems to be a better fit for Hundley right now.

More comfortable with Adams.....it's never smart to discard your best receiver via comfort as it reduces the playbook. Looking for the second and third guys before the first becomes a habit, locking in. Look what happened when Rodgers locked in on one side of the field,the one where Sherman wasn't in the Seattle game, whether by game scheme or in game choice, same but different thing,your offense becomes less explosive and more predictable.
If Hundley is to grow to levels some envisioned possible, not I, it cannot start by via the system over weight people believe in, comfort food for them and comfort plays for Hundley. Adams can be used as comfort but unless you physically make Adams the number 1 guy and relegate Nelson down in the game plan, you're simply shooting yourself....comfortably.

But according to Zach, Jordy is often getting open and deep to boot. So why isn't Hundley throwing him the ball?
If that's true, we shouldn't be celebrating Hundley and Adams new found alliance as much as we should be chastising Hundley for missed opportunities.

Nelson demands more often pin point throws and Hundley isn't comfortable or simply cannot make them. Keep him comfortable with 3 yd check downs and a deep pass to Adams now and then. with one being over/under thrown, one being dropped, one being INT and one having Adams do a catch that makes the others forgotten. If one can live with that one can't cry where they end up....couch potato in January and Feb.

Hundley won't attempt the pin point throws Rodgers does with Nelson,hence Nelson will get less looks and Hundley will lock on early to Adams......comfort receiver not the better as yet.

I have watched Jordy blocking more than anything these last weeks. He is a true pro and a great team player. If Adams had a little more speed he could be the "man' on any team. As it stands we have good WRs - nothing more. They are made better by Rodgers. All too often they fail to get separation and disappear for stretches. This may be due to the stale scheme they are playing or the lack of overall speed. Either way, it is irrelevant who is the number 1 receiver on this team. The Packers offense is about volume and options - someone will be open at some point - you just need a QB that can cycle through the reads and stay upright long enough.
Just imagine what this offense would be like with a Julio Jones and a complimentary cast of support pieces.

I agree, elite WR today are Antonio Brown, "not finishing catch" Bryant, T. J. Hilton, "oldy but goldy" Fitzgerald and A. J. Green. I might miss someone, and I appologize to the guy(s)...

I think AR could use a top end receiver to close out his career. Jordy will only decline from here and DA is not near a Fitzgerald which AR would love to have and would make DA even better.

I tend to agree: a high-end pass-catcher should be on the Packers' shopping list this off-season, either through the draft or in FA. Even though Cobb and Adams are still fairly young, it's a position that's going to need help. I just don't see TT throwing a first-round pick at a WR or TE, though.

It would be nice and I don't disagree, but I was under the impression that the draft class for WRs stinks for 2018. Maybe the juniors haven't declared. The FA class is a bit lacking, but an Allen Robinson might look interesting in GB.
Regardless, OLB and/or corner are much bigger issues.

Don't get me wrong, I really like Allen Robinson, but with all the injuries this year, how would it look if the Packer GM went out and brought in a WR who just blew his ACL?...and was never really a burner to begin with?

Adams probably is the Packers #1 WR for now. However looking forward this team still needs a game breaker threat at WR. Adams, Cobb and Jordy are all solid possession receivers. A true game breaker combined with a TE who can legitimately split the seam would make this offense unstoppable with a healthy Rodgers.
2018 draft and and FA will be the time for TT and/or his successor (hopefully) to restock our offensive weapons.

I agree with your vision. It is unfortunate that TT has missed on so many defensive draft picks over these past years. It is obvious that the defense needs more draft investment going forward. So, unless we draft a mid round gem, I don't see us giving Rodgers a stud WR or TE in the near future. Sigh.

Yes continued needs on D have left WR neglected, we missed out on some WRs in the draft the last few years.

Agree. Not giving a HOF caliber QB, a game breaking #1 WR is as unforgivable as not giving him a top 10 D. Don't relish the thought of this being the source of debate as with ILB, Safety, TE and now Pass Rusher.

Just look at the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers have a top 2 defense now and it's all pretty much a result of a two things. 1) Hitting on your draft picks, ESPECIALLY the 1st round picks. 2) Getting rid of Dick LeBeau. The Packers and now the Titans are the only 2 teams in the NFL who STILL trying to win with a scheme from 15 years old.
If you want to see how a 3-4 defense is supposed to work watch the Steelers D.

GREAT QUESTION!!!! the great answer is .... go back and watch the end of the dallas game. Did dallas roll coverage to dropvante? Did they put their best cover guy on him? Did they play a S over the top? or did they let a rookie go man to man on him? and did the rookie have him covered? or completely blanketed to the extent he had to be thrown open?
Go back and watch the bear game. What did the bears do? do you think the bears put fuller on a WR they respect?
Does any team use their worst cover guy on a WR they fear or respect that guy? were either of dropvante's catches against a zone, rolled coverage or double coverage?
a lot of people confuse the "BEST" wr on a team with a #1 wr, there are not any where near 32 # 1 wrs,

I'm still laughing. Pay Him? Not on your Life. Adams value will never be higher than right now. If I was TT I would shop him. Not pay him. Lambeau field is not Lolly-pop land. No one is going to give us a #1 pick or #2 for him. Please come back to earth. Snow melts real quick when a player goes on the IR. It took him 4 years to show he was a WR. #1.? Ok Let's Compare the progress of Nelson and Cobb in that time frame. Is he double teamed? Is he catching 10 plus passes a game. Other than running down the sidelines. Are his route's well run and timed? I think you get the idea what it takes to be a #1. Not just two catches against the Bears.

I believe Packers have potential unstoppable receiver on their roster - I might be very wrong, but somehow I believe what Aaron Rodgers see and how he graduate rookies - Michael Clark!
