Packers Question of the day - Herb Waters Getting his shot... At Corner?

I think it's safe to assume most of us were pretty surprised to hear that wide receiver (apparently-turned cornerback) Herb Waters was taking repetitions at cornerback during the week. While it's a testament to how thin the Packers currently are at corner due to injury, Waters' tall frame pairs well with his speed, which reportedly earned some pretty high praise during OTAs and training camp.

Could this be a move that potentially pays off for the Packers, especially given Waters' measurables — like his 38.5-inch vertical?

I haven't heard, but is this a permanent move or is it just a temporary move to help the CB's out right now?

Another Hurricane UDFA receiver turned corner. It worked once before.

I seriously doubt that this has very much at all - if anything- to do with recent injuries. If any team is seriously concerned that they will not have enough cornerbacks to put on the field this week, they go and get the best free agent on the street that they can find. Every team has an "emergency list" of players that they could sign if needed. MAYBE they try to swing a trade. But they almost certainly DONT say, "Wow, we really need a corner. Hey, I know... let's take an undrafted wide receiver from the practice squad and turn him into a corner in time to face the Vikings three days from now."

I imagine that Robertson Daniel might be on that "emergency list" and he'd be a better candidate than a receiver who converted the week prior to the game.

After the 7 WR on the 53 and Geronimo on the PS why not give him a shot at DB. Whitt does seem to have a knack at coaching'em up.

I think he needs to realize that his future -- if there is any -- in the NFL is not likely to be as a regular at WR. Special teams and this change are likely to be his meal ticket.

It won't pay off in the short term but maybe a year or two down the road. Anybody know why TT loads up at some positions (S) and is dangerously thin at others (ILB, DL, CB)? Is it his BPA philosophy running amuck?

What the hell is this? Not having a 5'9 185 corner who was undrafted or late round, is slow of foot and can tackle some, not playing over a tall, fast, great leaping guy. Un heard of. Ya and he will probably want to be paid too.
I bet House and others dont miss the packers one bit either.

Perhaps (and this is just wild speculation, based on being a "Nervous Nellie") the team is being proactive in case Shields continues to have concussion issues. Especially at a time when some players are retiring early because of head trauma concerns. So, Waters wouldn't necessarily be expected to be ready this year, but in case Shields did decide to leave the game early, they'd have another player "in the pipeline".

We used to have a pretty good CB, back in the 60's, named Herb.

As a newcomer I will cautiously say that I feel Waters has too much talent to release him and the roster has a load of WRs.. Converting Waters to CB trainee could make him valuable down the road.
