I knew when he went down in Chicago and was slow to get up it was the beginning of the end for our #69, Bak's injury is a career ender and all he's doing now is milking as much money as possible before hanging them up. I wear my Bakhtiari jersey proud but it's time to say Adios to a great one!

I don't think he's "milking it" whatsoever. I believe he really wants to play and get a ring but it's looking like his body won't let him. And let's face it - if this is it for him, he's going to need his team earnings going forward. I don't begrudge him that.

From Andy Herman:
Bakhtiari will be on IR through the October 31st trade deadline and as mentioned yesterday there’s nobody that’s trading any capital for him and he’s not passing a physical. Please put that to rest forever and ever amen.
As mentioned yesterday; there’s beyond zero advantage to releasing him. So please stop with that, too.
He’s on IR. He’s not taking up a roster spot. They don’t save any money this year if he’s cut or if he retires. If he can play; they’ll take him off IR. If he can’t then they won’t.
Then, there will be three options in the offseason:
1. Retire
2. Release
3. Restructure
In any of the 3 situations his $19 mil bonus will still count against the cap in 2024. In all 3 situations his $21.5 million salary will come off the books/cap. In the restructure version he’d get whatever they agreed upon with the new contract, likely a minimum deal with incentives.
So there’s that. Please stop the cut/trade stuff. Thanks.

This is a business.
Not a medical ward.
Let him go for his own good.

Right . It is a business. That’s why you should read Leotis’ summary of the business implications of the Bakhtiari situation. Then read again.

I logged in to clarify the money stuff but no need. Leotis knocked it out of the park!

Thank you Leotis. I think there is 0% possibility this clear, concise explanation will stop the posts about trading, etc.
I think we can officially say it: Signing Bakhtiari to that big contract in 2020 didn't work out. If he had stayed healthy, we might have had a HOF left tackle on the field, but he didn't and we ended up spending a lot of money for not a lot of return.
Football is a game of replacement. It looks like Walker right now. If he's good enough to leapfrog Nijman....who was a pretty decent LT.......then I guess we got lucky with a late round pick. Jenkins and Tom both have their own injury issues and I don't see either of them at LT at this time.

It's time to move on.
And they need to move Jenkins before he's next.
TT never gambled on injuries.
Drafting or otherwise.

Uh...Kevin King & Justin Harrell to name 2 high pick college injury gambles.

Uh - Harrell kept it hid.
King was a year after the injury.
Who was in charge of scouting - Gutey
But I'll give him a pass on king,
because it was the west Coast scouts.

uh, no. Harrell's injury was known, and it was a gamble that Ted was willing to take. I believe he said at the time "they don't make many big men that can move like that".
The draft is a crap shoot. Ted and Gutekunst are both better than most.

I don't think it's a crap shoot, but I don't see how you can predict injuries or how well the guy will recover. If I knew how, I could make a lot of money sharing that intel.
I agree that TT and Gutekunst are better than both, but I also think they get a great deal of help from the personnel department and scouts. Both of them came up through that to become GMs, and when they make a personnel move, it's been considered by quite a few people, all the appropriate film is broken down, and then the GM acts.

Wrongo. Harrell had a lengthy injury history which TT ignored. Horrible pick.

Justin Harrell ring a bell? He was broken and injured when they picked him. One of Thompson biggest busts of a 1st round draft choice. Even Harrell stated he was expected to be chosen until the 3rd round.

TT would not. TT also let Woodson walk too early also. Injuries happen, unfortunately to some great players. They just have excellent contracts to pay them ALL the $, when they can't perform. I don't know enough about his injury to know the success rate but I'm sure David is in an unfortunate slim percentage of folks that don't return to 100% health. GPG

The young roster just became younger; unless he can get on the field again at some stage.
Go Packers!!!

So Leotis, I may be reading between the lines, but it appears you think we should trade Bhak ?

Gutey should be fired for the Baht contract. Thompson would have never given him all that money, not a chance. Especially an aging lineman to his 3rd contract. Thompson would have let him walk.
