Mark, Bitternotsour & Harry. Been studying TE offerings in this draft this past week, and ALL of those thoughts came to mind. Along with this thought: I could easily see us taking TWO TEs!!

I do think Likely is going to be a good player.

And, we really could close our eyes, throw a dart, and odds are the player will find his way to helping the Packers. While WR, EDGE, OT are top needs, hey, there’s room for depth or upgrades all over.

I mean, who wouldn’t want Devin Lloyd next to Campbell? A top Safety added to Amos & Savage? Another top CB? A top DT?

Could easily see the Packers tag Trey McBride or Jelani Woods at #59.

6-6.5” 260 arms 34.5” hands 10” d per 40
Big production > 6 TDs/yr 3x in a row. 168 rec 2181 yds. Not fast/explosive but size advantage. Above average body control. Good routes. Finds zones on scrambles, etc.

Had some drops. Needs strength and blocking development like just about any rookie.

"Must address the TE position" reminds me of the ILB/WR position the last decade.

There are some guys I would love for Gutey to draft in the 3rd round. Might as well waste our 3rd round pick on a TE, we have so often it is becoming a tendency. ; P

GUTE DOESN'T NEED TO ADDRESS ANYTHING. The starting 11 are good to go on Defense. He still can move players around on the OL. And Cobb, Lazard, and Rodgers, are weak, but capable. It will be a full house when Bahk and Jenkins get back . He can go anywhere he wants for depth. It's after the starting 22 where things look cloudy. We want better at WR. Because of what we loss. And Tonyan will only be here till someone shows him the money. Why? Because YOU CAN"T SPEND BROWNIE POINTS! As Long as Rodgers is the franchise. You kiss his ass or he'll leave. Because he can't fix stupid. And as long as we don't have that TE threat. It puts the pressure on him and not the defense.

I keep looking at different player rankings to see who/position will be available at the Packers selection. I try to keep pushing TEs but the boards I see, they just aren't there until 4-5 round range. One guy not mentioned and who had a great Shrine bowl presence was the TE from MD. Don't remember his name but shows up in the 5th round.
One last thing...again going through the player rankings and a safety keeps popping up at the Packer's 26th pick...wonder how that will play to the fans if it happens?

My guess is that the coaching staff has been looking at who we have now and forecasting how they will be this season. Obvious needs will be noted. Scouts are finalizing the prospects in the draft. All of them will give input. Then a list of players who match up with both camps will be ranked by Gutie and staff. If a high regarded player slips or if a needed player comes in range then he will make a trade move in the draft. I expect to see a TE drafted but it’s a matter of when during the draft.

A top notch TE takes the sting out of not having a great #1 WR and/or makes a lesser WR more effective. Look at the impact Kelce, Kittle and Gronk have on their offenses. Are their WR teammates that great individually or did these TEs make them better than they are? Coffman, Finley, Chewey and even a one year rental in Cook made GB's offenses special.

In most of my mock drafts, I end up taking two TEs. Today's draft:
22 OL Kenyon Green (another Elgton Jenkins who'll start where needed)
28 WR Christian Watson (raw, but super talented--could be a rough rookie year...)
53 TE Trey McBride (starting TE very soon)
59 LB/ED Leo Chenal (starting LB and rush specialist)
92 RB Kyren Williams (Aaron Jones replacement in one year)
132 TE Jelani Woods (more talented than Jermichael Finley if he develops)
140 CB/S Zyon McCollum (tall athletic freak who I'd move to free safety)
171 WR Danny Gray (fast, talented replacement for MVSESB)
228 OL Zach Tom (developmental OL)
249 P Matt Araiza (competes for starting punter job)
258 C Nick Ford (competes for backup center)
Struck out on a good nickel/safety, but a pretty good haul nonetheless

I’m not impressed with any talents or health of our TEs!! I really like the kid from Ohio State. He is a tremendous blocker for our run game and catches anything thrown to him. He didn’t get thrown to a lot because the two wrs on the team are going in the top twenty in this years draft. I liked Wylie from A&M. He dropped off in his pass catching but that’s because his qb’s were lame!! The kid from Colorado state is very talented route running and catching, blocking not do much. This team has not replaced Finley who was a tremendous talent. I think we let the draft flow to us and we get what we get. 8-12 very capable wrs. What happens if Jordan Davis is still out there at 22? I’m running that card up there pronto!

I know one TE Gutey definitely WON'T be taking. Jalen Wydermyer ended up with 1.06 RAS. It seems like he puts too much stock in those athletic tests at times but he's not touching that with a 10 foot pole.

Check out the Bootleg Football discussion on TEs ('The Other Guys of the 2022 draft'). They point out that the best three TE blockers in this draft are Trey McBride, Cade Otton and James Mitchell. They also pointed out that no two teams will have the TEs on their board stacked the same way, as the prospects offer such different things.

Mc Bride might go in the 2nd somewhere, Otton early 3rd and Mitchell a late pick (rd 7 maybe) but a team that values Otton's blocking prowess highly, for example, might part with a later 2nd.

I'd like to see any of those picks on the Packers roster. Also like Jelani Woods (round 3-4), and the very under-used (in college) Jeremy Ruckert. Brett Kollmann also liked Daniel Bellinger (possibly a round 6 guy).

Lots of possibilities sprinkled all through the draft. I would tend to avoid the pure pass catchers in this draft - I think the Packers want at least a reasonable blocking ability in their TEs (i think they learned a lesson from having Jimmy Graham). At the very least get a decent-sized try hard blocker and hope to coach them up.

Another sort of sleeper is Austin Allen out of Nebraska. Did good in at combine in everything except 40 yard dash. He catches everything and is 6'7'. I am an Iowa fan and we have had some great tight ends. He played well against us and I would have liked him in a Hawkeye uniform. He could be had late 4 or 5. A deep sleeper is Josh
Babicz out of North Dakota State, another football factory. He is supposed to be a lights out blocker who catches the ball really well. 70% of his catches were touchdowns. Maybe a UDFA who could beat out Mercedes Lewis and
save us 3 million $ to spend elsewhere. Otherwise I like Ruckert, Woods, Mcbride and Kolar the best.

I don't believe Gute will draft a TE. Next year maybe. GB draft needs are. listed as EDGE,WR, DL. We all know Gutey will make a trade. So this is what I came up with per Trade Value chart. IN ORDER:

Packers already have 3 tight ends under contract so I wouldnt expect them to use anything more than a late round pick on a tight end.
