Here's what the Green Bay Packers' offensive and defensive depth chart looks like as training camp opens and the team hits the practice field for the first time.
Compiled largely from beat writer reports from last night's first training camp practice, here's what the Packers' day-one depth chart looks like on the first and second teams. When you look at it like this, you see why all the FA's that left (or remain unsigned) don't spell doom for the Champs.

Charles, you're so right.
While there's a specific position or two where the depth looks suspect (Wynn @ RDE because he's not really cut out for full time DE work in a 3-4, Schlauderaff at RG because he's probably one of the rawest developmental projects on the team), the groups as a whole are very strong. If Pickett when down, you'd see Wilson inserted. If Sitton was sidelined, we'd be looking at any number of other players who have had PT.
Even guys like Robert Francois have had time in the system and should be reliable back ups if need be.
Can't wait to see how the real depth chart shapes up.. Really is the deepest roster in the NFL coming into the season
.

I think we'll see our backup beating up on the other teams backups this preseason.

We've seen our back ups beat up other teams' starters before. :)

All of those unsigned free agents and cut veterans and only one rookie cracks the starting lineup.

just an opinion....i think we need more depth on ILB, 2 great starters but really questionable alternatives in case of an injury

How do you know the alternatives are questionable? Need to see them play before you can say that, no?

Robert Francois has spent considerable time on the Packers and knows the position in Capers scheme. Also had actual play time during the run last season.
Cardia also has been with the Packers PS since mid 2010 (I think), so at the very least, he's got some knowledge of the scheme entering camp as well.

Gonna miss Barnett!

Wasn't Cobb holding for Masthay's FG attempts?
Something to keep an eye on if he continues to get reps at that.
July 31, 2011 at 10:50 am
Uh-oh. Trick plays and fakes. Love it. Did Cobb line up at RB at all yesterday?
July 31, 2011 at 11:34 am
If they don't do that, I'll seriously wonder why they drafted him, or why he's failing to execute.

I thought Quarless didn't pratice because of injury?

...that's right - Q was - according to various outlets - pretty much invisible with Williams and Taylor getting snaps...TE: Finley, Williams, Q, Crabtree and Taylor. Havner wont make it.
Things are bound to change as we move along, though. Pretty sure Kuhn will resign and push out either Hoese or Johnson too.

...welcome back football : )
Now; if only we could see how well Cobb returns the pigskin....!

Didn't see the "speculation" in there. Thx:)

Who is Cardia Jackson? Figured DJ Smith would be backup there?

I'm glad that it looks like Barnett isn't goin to the Lions. Bills is fine with me.
July 31, 2011 at 12:14 pm
Hell, let's roll out the "B" team -- and pound on some people !!!
July 31, 2011 at 12:44 pm
Where's Ricky Elmore?
Brian Carriveau
July 31, 2011 at 12:57 pm
At least third on the depth chart to begin the year. Could jump up later.
July 31, 2011 at 12:52 pm
Rodgers over Flynn, eh?
July 31, 2011 at 01:38 pm
Man, this team is deep.
July 31, 2011 at 01:42 pm
you'll miss kuhn more than you realize, if he leaves

I am not making a prediction by any means... But...
Lawrence Guy has a chance to develop into a Cullen Jenkins-esque DT/DE with a few years work. Physically, the potential is there. He has the right size/speed combination, and the frame to develop his strength. The big thing is he is relentless, and does not give up on plays. He's really raw, needs to develop his strength and learn some moves. But the potential to be an inside and edge rusher who can play run support as well is there.
July 31, 2011 at 02:12 pm
I honestly don't remember what were Jenkins' atributes when he came into the league. I know that right now he is very quick and has a multitude of pass rushing moves, but he needed 3+ seasons to be able to make an impact in the league.
July 31, 2011 at 10:37 pm
Well Jenkins is on the "Dream Team" now.
August 01, 2011 at 03:07 am
Very excited about our oline.
Have a feeling we'll see a good amount of Green at nose and Raji at DE.
August 01, 2011 at 07:30 am
Still really excited for the battle between Peprah and Burnett. People seemed convinced that it was Burnett's job to lose, but I'm not so sure...
August 01, 2011 at 08:57 am
There really isn't much competition on the offensive side. It appears the 5 WRs, 3 HBs, 2 FBs are all set, barring injury.
The only battles are starting LG, interior O-line reserves, final TE spot (figuring Finley, Crabtree and Williams stick) and if Harrell is the 3rd QB.
August 01, 2011 at 07:28 pm
Hoping to see Burnett in the starting lineup once the season actually starts...but in MM I trust
