Packers Calendar: NFL Combine Wraps Up with Defensive Backs

Cornerbacks and safeties will work out at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Monday.

The NFL Combine wraps up its weeklong engagement with one last day of workouts on Monday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Defensive backs take to the field for a day full of drills, stations and timing events starting at 8:00 a.m. CT, televised on the NFL Network.

Among the tests cornerbacks and safeties will be doing will be the 40-yard dash, horizontal and vertical jumps, three-cone drill, short and long shuttles as well as position-specific drills.

The Green Bay Packers will have to pay close attention to the cornerbacks in particular on Monday, because of the uncertainty at the position.

Tramon Williams, Davon House and Jarrett Bush are all scheduled to become free agents in March, and none figure to receive a contract until deals with wide receiver Randall Cobb and offensive lineman Bryan Bulaga get done first.

The longer the Packers wait to negotiate with the cornerbacks, the more likely they are to get impatient and leave. House specifically is going to look for an opportunity to become a starter somewhere in the league.

All things being equal, the Packers might want all their cornerbacks back, but it's not entirely their decision to make. It's possible both House and Williams leave, and the Packers will have to be prepared if they do.

It's good for the Packers they have a full cupboard with guys like Sam Shields, Casey Hayward, Micah Hyde and Demetri Goodson all under contract. But as the saying goes, you can never have enough good cornerbacks.

The Packers would seem to be set with the slot cornerbacks like Hayward and Hyde. At the Combine, they'll be looking for perimeter cornerbacks, guys with long speed that can shut down opposing receivers.

Ladarius Gunter, CB, Miami. Not expecting a great 40, but I'm still hoping the Packers consider him. Did some good things in Senior Bowl practices.

There really is nothing that suggests GB is waiting to negotiate with House and Williams. While it might be ideal for TT to finish with Cobb and Bulaga first, he knows what he is willing to pay for them, and what he is willing to pay for House and Williams. I think TT can walk and chew gum at the same time. If I were a UFA, I'd want to wait until March 7 to hear from some other teams to assure myself that I wasn't selling myself short.
