Packers Among two Teams Interested in Ex-Cardinals Cornerback, Josh Hill

There's a relatively decent chance that the Packers may add another addition to their ragtag group of cornerbacks this off-season, and it won't just be through the NFL Draft.

Early Monday morning, Aaron Wilson from the Houston Chronicle and the National Football Post reported that the Packers and Browns are both interested in undrafted free agent defensive back Josh Hill.

Not to be confused with the New Orleans Saints tight end who sports the same name, Hill was originally signed to the Arizona Cardinals in 2013 after not spurring enough interest from teams in the seven-round draft four months prior to his release in August. Ever since, Hill has faded into irrelevance and hasn't played in the NFL.

Hill hasn't played since Johnathan Franklin was backing-up the tailback position in Green Bay and providing a glimmer of hope for a rising star. Hill hasn't played since a 6'5" Jermichael Finley was still suiting up for the Packers with his recognizable No. 88. Hill hasn't played since long before the talk of the Packers "wasting Aaron Rodgers' prime" came to light.

It's been a long time. Especially by NFL standards.

However, a workout video was posted of Hill training in Houston and it didn't seem like the 27-year old has missed a step.

Hill prospected as someone who would be able to plug in and immediately help a team on special teams, but the opportunity never surfaced for Hill who played a majority of his snaps as a Golden Bear at safety.

Hill amassed 214 total tackles during his four years (2009-2012) at California including five interceptions and 12 passes defensed. His Pro Day, held in March of 2013, didn't offer much of a look into what made Hill stand out above other prospects. With a 4.69 40-yard dash time and a couple of dropped footballs during his drills, it's tough to presume the Packers would take a look in Hill's direction — especially four years later.

Albeit the lack of a crystal ball can't really estimate the level of interest from the Packers, it is safe to bet that after four years, Hill may not have gotten faster.

Hill would play under cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt Jr. and enforce a unit spearheaded by the Packers' highest-paid corner, Davon House, whose $2.8 million dollar deal was broken down by Bob McGinn on Monday morning.

Of course, if you're the Packers, you wouldn't necessarily turn down any help at the position. The only exception is whether or not the addition can provide as a functioning piece to the puzzle that ranked 31st in pass defense a season ago. Hill may fit as a question mark under that category.

The news on Hill comes just three days after another report from Rotoworld's Josh Norris surfaced on the Packers expecting a pre-draft visit from Purdue wide receiver DeAngelo Yancey.

Well that would be scraping the bottom of the barrel. Apologies to Mr. Hill. Played safety (like Randall), runs slow (like Gunter). Yeah, let's put him on the outside and see what happens.

Too funny. "Josh Hill, not to be confused with the Josh Hill who actually plays football, was seen starring in a YouTube workout video where he became an immediate sensation. Impressing the hell out of the Browns and Ted Thompson."

Man oh man a Youtube sensation that the Browns are interested also.... For the love of Lombardi don't sign this waste of time... Make a smart move Ted and trade #29 for a top 10 CB in Butler and pay him 12mil a year, then you would have something to work with. Not a guy out of FOOTBALL for 4 years.... HE COULDN'T CATCH ON A TEAM IN 4 YEARS!!!!!

I guess this demonstrates that one of the benefits of having the 31st ranked pass defense is that almost anyone can appear to be an upgrade.

I hear he's also 5'9". Slow, short, and out of position; sounds like TT material to me.

And in other news tonight, Ted Thompson has reportedly found a former undrafted CB turned rodeo clown who has not played in the NFL since 1999. He still goes by his clown name, Bozo.

"Those bulls are fast and dangerous," said Bozo.

"They've kept me in great shape. My life is at stake, so I have to dodge them and run sprints all the time."

Thompson was impressed with his rodeo clown film.

"Well, he's exactly what we look for," said Thompson.

"He hasn't played in years, he's old and his non-football work is excellent. Plus, he'll be cheap."

Bozo's agent believes Thompson has found another diamond in the rough. In between scraping bull poop off his shoes and putting on make up, Bozo is confident Thompson will give him a shot.

"It's all over YouTube," said Bozo.

"I'm gonna go viral."

Reports leaking that Thompson may be interested in former Packer CB Fred Vinson..Rumors are he may have finally recovered from that off-season ACL tear. Probably able to snag him real cheap.

So GB's off season acquisitions, not counting the draft, at the most serious and obvious position of need are a former Packer who was cut by the Jaguars and a un-drafted FA who hasn't played football in three years?

Aaaaaahhhhhhhmaaagod...

If there is even a tiny kernel of truth to this, it's enough for Murphy to go to the board and request that TT be retired to the Funny Farm.

When all you get are bargain basement offers, who wants to come to your team but those who can't get offers anywhere else. GB is the 'Island of Misfits'.

Only thing holding this team together is AR. And pretty soon, he's gonna get sick of the lack of management support. Then what? A second go round in MN ala Brett?

Well I for one hope this rumor is total BS. However, since TT is our GM, it makes it totally believable. That is what scares me. At least a UDFA after this seasons draft is tolerable since you figure he at least PLAYED LAST SEASON in college somewhere. And is younger.

Not even sure why this is a story, or WHY or IF the Packers are interested. He seems like more of what they already have, and it just makes me shake my damn head if it's really true. Somebody up there is clueless if they're going after a guy like this as a contributor.

He will not be coming to gb. Ben there done this scenario how many years now? Ted, never gets himself into the bid war game. Mater of fact agents either drop gb as interested to bid here guy up. Ted maybe doesnt know who this guy is. Ted is all n the draft and undrafteds again.
