Packers 46-Man Roster Prediction for Week 14 vs. Falcons

Jamari Lattimore has been ruled out for Monday's game. Who will take his spot on the roster? Cheesehead TV has the prediction.

Here's our best guess at predicting the Green Bay Packers' gameday roster for Sunday's Week 14 match-up against the Atlanta Falcons. Reminder, only 46 players can be active.

The entire roster is included. Those bold and italicized are predicted to be inactive...

Quarterback: Aaron Rodgers, Matt Flynn, Scott Tolzien

Running Back: Eddie Lacy, John Kuhn, James Starks, DuJuan Harris

Wide Receiver: Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Jarrett Boykin, Davante Adams, Jeff Janis

Tight End: Richard Rodgers, Andrew Quarless, Brandon Bostick, Justin Perillo

Offensive Line: David Bakhtiari, Josh Sitton, Corey Linsley, T.J. Lang, Bryan Bulaga, J.C. Tretter, Lane Taylor, Garth Gerhart

Defensive Line: Mike Daniels, Datone Jones, Letroy Guion, Josh Boyd, Mike Pennel, Luther Robinson

Outside Linebackers: Julius Peppers, Clay Matthews, Mike Neal, Nick Perry, Jayrone Elliott

Inside Linebackers: A.J. Hawk, Brad Jones, Jamari Lattimore, Sam Barrington, Carl Bradford

Cornerbacks: Sam Shields, Tramon Williams, Davon House, Casey Hayward, Jarrett Bush, Demetri Goodson

Safeties: Morgan Burnett, Micah Hyde, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Sean Richardson

Specialists: Mason Crosby, Tim Masthay, Brett Goode

Notes:

  • Jamari Lattimore (ankle) and Luther Robinson (calf) have been ruled out for Monday's game.
  • Sam Shields (concussion) is listed as "questionable" for the game against the Falcons but is predicted to play.
  • Six players are listed as "probable" on the Packers' injury report, including Mike Daniels (back), and all are predicted to play.
  • Scott Tolzien and Carl Bradford have yet to be active for a game this season.
  • After Lattimore, Robinson, Tolzien and Bradford, it's anyone's guess who will get the one active spot between Jeff Janis, Justin Perillo, Garth Gerhart and Demetri Goodson. I went with Goodson, who has made two tackles on special teams in just two games this year.

This is a healthy looking roster. Capers must be licking his chops. They should get pressure with 4 and then dial up some exotic blitz's.

You know who's playing some pretty good football but isn't really piling up stats???

Datone Jones.

I'd like to know his Hurries/Pressures/QB Hits

This might not be perfect, but here are some links to information.

http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/defensive-hurries/2014/
http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/player-sacks-and-sack-yards/2014/

The sacks at this site add up to 28 sacks for GB, which concurs with Packers.com. I see hurries, but no stats for QB hits at sporting charts, and I believe that a hurry is not the same as a pressure. In other words, I do not believe that Sporting Charts measures pressures. Here is a list by individuals (# of defensive snaps per Football Outsiders, then hurries and then sacks per Sporting Charts.com):

Peppers: 623 9/5; CMIII 650, 6/4.5; Neal 485, 6/3.5; Daniels 515, 4/4; Perry 280 3/3; Datone Jones 212 4/1; Boyd 294 3/0; Guion 418 0/2.5 sacks. Burnett, Barrington, Hyde, and Clinton Dix each have 1 sack. Hawk has 0.5 sacks in 763 defensive snaps.

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/snapcounts

These are raw statistics. My own interpretation is that Peppers and Neal are having better years than I thought. One has to be careful about simply extrapolating Datone's statistics. He has on 212 snaps, in part due to injury, but also because Boyd plays in running situations and Jones comes in for obvious passing situations, so it would be inappropriate (IMHO) to simply triple Jones' statistics and then compare him with CMIII or Peppers. My other thought is that Peppers is playing too many snaps (74.2% of defensive snaps).

Thanks.

I hope this young D-Line front can continue to gel and progress. Things are looking better and better.

I agree that Peppers is playing too many snaps. I forgot where I read this at, but Peppers was talking about this possibly being his last season. Why say that now???

Stats for Datone Jones, basically games missed and the number of times in two years his promotion of himself as the "answer" to the pass rush. Talk is cheap and so has been his level of play when he does get on the field, what Datone Jones have you been watching ? Perry has also had regular injury issues but when he has played he has been productive, he holds the point twice as good as the self praised Jones at much less weight. Remember the name Jerrell Worthy in next years training camp, you may hear Jones in the same vein if he doesn't start producing. He and Boykin's sudden inability to catch the football are the biggest disappointments of what may be a special season, we knew Hawk's decline was on the way.

I read recently that Neal and Perry both have the same run defense grade from PFF (I think it was -0.5 for each of them). By my own eyeball test, it looks to me like Perry does hold the edge better than Neal. PFF does have some anomalies sometimes, or maybe its some other reason, like missed tackles. In any event, Neal has been more active than I thought and bears a closer watch.

I'd much rather see Janis play than the other 3 players Brian mentioned. McCarthy had some new twists last week with Boykin and Cobb in the backfield. Like to see what Janis could do with his size and speed catching one of those passes.

I think MM puts to much on what a player does in "practice" sometimes. WTH, take a chance , throw a guy in there in game situations once in a while.

You're saying that until that players misses that 1 simple assignment which causes injury or is the deciding factor in a game.

MM puts so much into practice for the young guys. Not so much for the vets.

Nope, that's not what I'm saying at all. Giving a young player a few snaps during the course of a game isn't going to decide said game. Look how long it took Bishop to see the field. Now Barrington, finally looks like he is replacing an aging ineffective Hawk. Boykin has regressed IMO, so why not insert Janis. MM always said he likes competition, push Boykin. Either step up or be a healthy scratch. A # 4 wide receiver won't decide a game.

Exactly 4th and 1, the game against the Eagles Rodgers hit Boykin right in the hands on a sideline pass and it bounced off his hands. After Rodgers gave him that look I didn't see him other than special teams again until last week. I'd just really like to see what Janis might do with his size and speed on one of those plays like last week with Boykin and Cobb in the backfield. Janis is big, really fast, and could really be something. The Packers know EXACTLY what Boykin gives them in game time situation. Lets find out more about Janis before the playoffs.

You guy's all have to be wrong on Boykin. I must have been told at least 5 times last year by Stroh, that we didn't need JJ, because we had Boykin. I believe the word he used was "Redundant". Are you saying Stroh was wrong?? I can't believe that.

By the way, the game is up to 13 - 13 1/2. I don't play the GB game, but it sure looks like a GB Victory to me. Not sure that's good. I keep thinking of the last time Atlanta came to Green Bay. We just got away with a Victory.

I would like to see GB get at least a bye. Home field advantage throughout would be Great!! Damn Detroit, Keeps Hanging Around. Big difference here between Division Champs, & Top Wild Card. LVT

I wouldn't mind seeing Tolzien active instead of Flynn this game. Besides the fact of in-case-of-injury there is a decent chance the backup will play in the 4th quarter. I'd like to see what he's got after being developed beyond just being a practice quad guy thrown to wolves (last year), plus he has got the better arm strength and would probably fair better in the snowy conditions tonight. *see preseason
