Great feel good win!

However, I am no less worried about the offense. They still have the same issues after 6+ weeks. I'd add Alex Van Pelt to the Ugly along side Clements. He can't possibly be doing a good job right now.

I am. Rodgers' accuracy was much improved as the game wore on. He seemed to regain some confidence and swagger. The rest of the offense is got good enough to carry Rodgers when he is off. But Rodgers IS able to carry the rest of the offense when he is on.

Rodgers still missed a lot of throws (including a few High School easy throws) in the first 3 quarters. I need to see a complete performance before I am less worried. This is still the LOLions we are talking about.

Let's hope RichRodgers has found his mojo. He proved he CAN play, now he just needs to bring it weekly. Devante and Eddy however, yuck.

Take away the miracle finish and the 'W', and I really don't know what's to feel good about. The Pack was dominated the entire game and was a loser after 60 minutes of playing time. Sure, they had grit and fought to the finish and made some key plays when needed, but even if they can muster some momentum to get into the playoffs, it's hard to see them doing more than 1 and done in the playoffs the way they are playing right now. But then we were in the same boat in 2010, so who the hell knows!? One thing for sure, they're going to keep us nervous to the very end.

They were dominated for 3 and a half quarters. After the lolions got a FG on their opening possession in the 2nd half, they did nothing. An off sides by Peppers gave them another 3.

The horrible: Injuries
Throw us a bone. I hope these ten days scores us a Monty, a Damarious, Lang, Bulaga, and anyone else that could contribute. Heck, even quarless would add to some double te sets.

And how do you not add Lacy here somewhere.

I see Lacy being a non-factor the rest of the season until he's put on the trading block. He has to be traded while the Pack can still get a draft pick or two for him. He'll be worth less next year. He's flashed out his career for various reasons I won't get into here. He needs to study some old John Brockington film while he still has a chance.

Game observation version of good bad and ugly.

Good: No sorry Good isn't good enough to describe the final play of the game.
So Freaking Awesome: Final play of the game.

Bad: Lions allowing a team to come back from down 20 points.

Ugly: Packers first half performance

"Bad: Lions allowing a team to come back from down 20 points."

If you watched the NFL Network post-game, Micheal Irvin (ugh) made what I grudgingly agree was a very good point. That he couldn't understand how the Lions couldn't put the Packers away. The Packers were down in the first half, playing lousy on the offensive side, and had a dead on their feet look. Another TD and you likely could put the game--and the whole season--in the crapper. It's not to say that the Packers didn't show something by coming back to win, but the Lions showed something by not finishing off the Packers.

Same...old...Lions...

The last five games looks like the final 5 minutes of the NFC championship last year. Sudden unexplainable and improbable collapse that people are still trying to understand.... How does a team dominate, and then just flip over? Jeckyl and Hyde. However, I was concerned even in the last couple of wins the Pack had on their 6-0 streak this year. They got the W but had cracks in the armor.

I'll eat half a crow. I had the Lions by 17 based on their recent play and the Packers. I was right at the half. Felt bad for the Pack and my wife huge fan in that they looked worse then even I imagined. It was sad. A beaten down team. Mistakes galore, chaos.

Second half, the Lions stopped doing what they did successfully and the Packers actually had two guys start earning their checks: R Rogers and Adams. Two guys to date I thought were bums, busts, guys who wouldn't get you to the playoffs.

The Good:
the O line. Injuries are not an excuse unless you have the entire line decimated. Then its a reality. Wow what a job they did.

The bad:
Pass defense of Capers is still awful. Lions could have crushed the pack by just throwing. they gave it up, it costs them dearly.

The Ugly:
BJ Raji is serving no purpose what so ever. They need speed in the middle and a pass rush. He is neither and isn't stopping the run either. Nate Palmer, and Hyde who is injured each game.
Crosby can only punt 31 yards in doors. You fire guys who do that.

I think you meant Masthay. But my main point for replying is to show you Raji in a different light.

Raji is very much doing his job. You want him to penetrate and disrupt and show up on the stat sheet with impact plays. But that is technically not his job. He is supposed to be eating up blockers and anchoring the middle so that linebackers can flow to the ball carrier. If the running game is lighting is up, it's not because of Raji. We actually have been quite stout against the run minus a big one from Abdullah. Second half they really shored it up.

Pass rushers come off the edge. Your outside LB are responsible for that production. Unfortunately, Peppers age is catching up. Although I do love his impact plays when he makes them. He just doesn't set the edge very well on running plays. Perry and Neal were getting production early in the season, but they seem to be banged up. Our best pass rusher is playing out of position.

Unfortunately a nose tackle doesn't get any glory.....see Vince Wilfork. Raji is doing what he is asked to do.

Yeah, if Raji can just destroy two guys and penetrate then, awesome. But his main purpose is to make them double team him so the rest of the field is 10 against 9.

There's actually not that many people calling you out. More just bashing you personally.

This is one of your more positive posts, so you get a half point. It's probably refreshing that you can celebrate a win.

As far as the talent. It is what we have. Do we have a bunch of studs? No. But you always act like the team we start with at the beginning of the year is the team we end with. There are young players that are getting better. And may even play at an elite level once developed. Randall and Rollins come to mind. I think Monty will be a great weapon, maybe even our best. Rip seems like he'll be one tough motha for a fullback. I really like Jake Ryan at inside LB. Abby is practically a first year addition. He's great at finding those soft zones.

You hate the coaching style, we get it. And you're right....it's been stubborn and attrocious. Many agree with you. But it's not changing any time soon. So....we can just cheer on our team and hope for the best. Like last night.

Also, in the past your main complaint is that we are wasting Rodger's best years. That we need immediate change.... Well now that you think he is Grossman....then who cares. Now we're not wasting anything. There......does that feel better now?

The funny thing is, apparently the less talented team with bad coaching is beating teams with better talent (Vikings, Lions, Seahawks,...). What's up with that? If that happened for a game or 2 then that could be luck. But this team with apparently very bad talent level and atrocious coaching is 8-4. And realistically should be at least that. If Crosby makes that FG in the home game, and JJ catches that ball in the Bears game on 3rd down then the team is 10-2, even though of course yesterday was luck. But even if yesterday was lost it's 9-3 then with the other 2 wins. how does a talent deprived team with bad coaching possibly get 9-3??? Or even 8-8 overall at the worst as they can finish now if all remaining games are lost? One doesn't win 8 NFL games with pure luck.
No, the talent level is just fine. The problems this season is that a) Stars are not playing to their potential and b) Some head scratching Coaching decisions. At least IMHO.

IMO, the play of the Packers in the first half is on the coaches. They don't have the strength and skill to fire this team up. Thank Gawd the Lions took care of that for them. It seems every game they start out looking like they have given up on the season and merely going through the motions. Does McFatty put them to sleep in his pre-game "in one for the Gipper" speech? What an inspirational leader (unless of course players like platitudes)

What I love about the field-view camera is how Rodgers lumbers through the shot after the snap. I laughed so hard at this. It's a good thing AR threw that ball a mile high, because R. Rod needed every second he could get to make it downfield.

I think James Starks was close to being added to this list as well if Cobb didnt recover that fumble. Lots of breaks went GB way this game and it is nice to see them take advantage of them.

I worry about our RB situation if Lacy cant play at a high level. I feel that Starks gets a little careless when carrying the ball.

Did anyone notice that it looked as though McCarthy was calling the plays towards the end of that game? Not sure if he took over that duty at halftime??

Good: Richard Rodgers, Sam Shields, Clinton-Dix.

Bad: James Jones, Eddie Lacy, Barclay

Ugly: Offensive Coordinator. I really don't want to focus on play calling or coaches. But there is just something really weird going on with this offense. So the people running it have to be to blame. How can they do nothing for the first half of the game, to come back in the 2nd half? Score 0 points in first half 27 in 2nd...
Just feels like their is a major disconnect between the players and what the coaches are trying to do.

While I saw some subtle changes made, and I loved the play design with Cobb doing the reverse and the screen pass off of that, there simply isn't enough of that type of creativity in this offense.
Hopefully the creativity comes more often.

Huh, when I was watching and saw:

Lots of screens
New creative plays involving Cobb
Routes breaking toward the middle of the field
A TE down the seam
Janis and Abby in the game

...I thought, "well the CHTV people should be happy now." I'm honestly kind of shocked to see TC in the ugly. There were definitely offensive issues last night, but they seemed very execution-related.

For me it was more in the first half. Basically everything that was bad, was all in the first half.

I thought the 2nd half they really improved. They showed more looks. Did more formation wise, and started to attack Detroit in the middle of the field.

Most of the stuff they did creatively wise, they did in the 2nd half.

I like that they did more, but it was mostly in the 2nd half.

Was it though? For example, I recall three times in the game when they ran that new play where Cobb runs across for a potential reverse - the first time they handed it off to the RB, the second time they did the reverse to Cobb, and the third time they faked both and then did a screen to Cobb. I think both of the first two were in the first half (or at least prior to the first TD). The difference was that the oline got blown up on the first two and nothing happened. I also recall numerous screens, RR down the seam, and a deep shot to Abby all in the first half I believe. What looked like the big difference to me in the second half was, A.) The makeshift line somehow started blocking juuuust well enough, and B.) Rodgers got a bit more accurate and people didn't generally drop his passes.

On the the bright side, as a whole the talent is there but the confidence is almost non existent and that's very evident. When confident, execution becomes second nature.

On the negative, we badly miss Jordy.

The Good

I have been calling for Jake Ryan and my god did he have a hell of a game. I said we needed to play more base 3-4 D and our D has been playing great last couple of games within the base. This Defense is capable of taking us far as long as they stay healthy. Also we have been bashing the guy lately lets give him some credit A-Rod showed some grit last night.

The Bad
The same offensive plays. We need to change personnel more. Jones is just a body out there. The D is not even looking at him. The O gets some blame here for sleeping once again until the game is on the line.

THe Ugly
TIM MATSTHAY... HIs punting is terible. I made a comment on JSonline.com in the sports blog last night about his punting and Tom Silverstein responded saying I have a short memory when I said Masthay confidence was never their bc he has never been good. Soon after he punted for 35 yds. I then replied back to Tom" Was that the confidence you were talking about"... LOL

GOOD: R. Rodgers, Jake Ryan, Sam Shields, J. Crockett
Dom Capers, J. Peppers

BAD: J. Walker, Crosby, Janis, Barclay

Ugly: E. Lacy, J. Peppers

GOOD: Great night for Richard Rodgers, hope they continue to use him over the middle. Great to see Jake Ryan on the field also, he seemed to be around the ball and tackled well. Shields did a nice job on Megatron, Crockett added some energy on a fast track, Capers Defense was aggressive after a poor first quarter and Peppers made a game changing play.

BAD: Walker was thrown into a tough spot and almost got Rodgers killed, Crosby continues to Not be clutch when we need him, Janis had a forgettable night as did the slow and overmatched Barclay.

UGLY: Eddie WTF is going on man? We need you dude,
it is time to step up, get it together already!
J. Pepp, great play earlier to give us the ball and score but you almost made the GOAT play of the game with the off-sides at the end, attention to detail man!

I think I speak for everyone when i say my throat hurts from screaming after the final t.d. Great effort from this team. A gutsy comeback. Through this slump i have felt this team lacked one major thing above all else. Emotion. They appeared as if they had just won the superbowl, what made me happiest of all is seeing rodgers running down the field and listening to his interview. There back ladies and gentleman. Janis in the bad because he had 4 snaps, one overthrown deep pass and two chances for KR's and because he didn't get a big play? Or is it more because his name is Janis and putting it in the UGLY makes some feel warm and fuzzy and allow 'Magic' Abberderis seem more so? At least Abby didn't get hurt making his one catch this week so there is that I guess.

The Bad: Everyone complaining about the phantom facemask call.

Hell I may even agree. But watch the replay. Look at how close that is. A finger brushed the mask for sure. And to call that penalty in real time, it looked like a facemask. Unfortunately for the refs, that is a nonreviewable call. It was made on the field of play in real time. Refs don't have technology to slow that down and take snap shots like we as viewers do. Lions may have got screwed, but its hard to blame the refs on that.

Besides, makes up for a possible pass interference on Abby from the play before.

Situational mistake

The Lions are pros. They was no one behind Rodgers to lateral to. You have two guys pinning him in and all you need to do is wrap. You then get lazy and reach for a helmet. A QB helmet. That was inexcusable. Really stupid. Trust me that guy is going to raked over the coals by the Lion coaches.

Now, imagine it were two of our players and one of our players did that to Matthew Stafford with no time left. You would never, ever hear the end of the: "Player X" is the dumbest idiot the Packers have ever had. He should be benched or traded."

Brad Jones used to play that role. Master of the stupid penalty.

...and the ref who threw the flag was behind the play, so he was seeing the helmet move, the impact that hand on AR's movement. From his perspective he made the right call, and a call that will be made 99 times out of 100. They could have conferred and another ref could have told him if it was or wasn't a facemask...that didn't happen.

Even if one wouldn't call facemask, it was illegal hands to the face. No matter what, penalty was legit.

If you watch the slow-motion replay, you see the defender's thumb hook and pull the facemask. Apparently, that's enough.

And there were two flags coming in, from behind and then from the side judge who had a good view. Definitely legit. And we can slo mo everything. If we all watch the play in real time everybody would've thrown the flag

Thats the key. Everything I've seen on it says the same thing. The refs don't have the slo mo replay. All the "experts" have given them a pass and said a flag would have been thrown by almost every ref. AR should get an oscar too. How many times have you seen a ref throw a flag after a receiver puts on a show? When I saw the play i said, way to go dumbfuck, 15 yards!

Another Good which should not be overlooked: After the successful Hail Mary, coach McCarthy elected to take a knee instead of the PAT. This may not seem like much, but this is a super classy move. A+ for not rubbing in the extra point. No need.

Side note: Seattle totally kicked that point.

Josh Walker in the bad? The kid had one play I think. Ok that play was bad, but he is not a LT.

Ugly: Phil Simms. Must have lost his vision lately. I cant believe I actually didn't mute my TV.

The awesome:
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/nerd-alert--aaron-rodg...

Now I didn't think Rodgers played particularly well yesterday to put it mildly, but that was a throw for the ages. Unbelievable arc. There are probably not even 5 NFL QBs who can throw that far and high without the last second pressure, not even just in practice.

I already stated that this was the perfect throw... The most beautiful throw I've ever seen... It looks like Mike McCarthy agrees with me...

The Good:

Looking at the eyes of the obnoxious Lion's fans after they witnessed the "Motown Miracle. It was priceless.

also good

I guess one can put to rest the premise that Aaron Rodgers is injured! That was a cannon ball toss. That sucker was so high I had time to let the dog out before it came down into the snuggly arms of Richard Rodgers....speaking of which... at least for a while the RR haters have to take a break.

The Bad: It took 1 and 15 minutes before I could relieve my bladder during the second half I was so glued to the TV.

The Ugly: The Packer fans that went to bed before the end of the game...to see that they missed one of the greatest episodes in the the storied Packers history

Good...Ryan and Rich Rod. Jake Ryan was allover the field...loved it. I don't understand all the Eddie hate tho. Barry Sanders couldn't have ran behind that line. There was nowhere to go as soon as he got the ball. The ugly ..the first half altogether.

OMG.... I totally forgot.

THE VERY GOOD

A GUY NAMED JOHNNY CROCKETT. HIS SPIRIT WAS ABSOLUTELY LIGHTNING CONTAGIOUS!!!!!

The guy must be related to Davy Crockett...but instead of killing a bear when he was only 3.... killed the Lions at 23!

Anyone see the reports that Eddy Lacy and Alonzo Harris missed curfew on Wednesday night in Detroit, and that's what sparked Harris being cut outright and Lacy getting very limited playing time?

Crazy.

I am relatively new on this site so have very little credibility, BUT, I agree with Cow. Yes, it was a story book finish and we all love that, but let's not think MM has righted the ship - Far from it. I hope the euphoria wears off before Monday because this team needs a lot of work if they hope to beat the dysfunctional Cowboys. All evidence points to the fact that they won't beat Dallas if the same team takes the field next Sunday. McFatty has lots of issues with which to deal!!

The Unbelievable: A. Rodgers throw and R. Rodgers catch.
The Good: Jake Ryan, John Crockett, R. Rodgers, A. Rodgers, MM and the coaching staff for inserting younger players, Janis, Abbrederis, Crockett and Ryan into the game.
The Bad: M. Crosby, J. Jones, E. Lacy
The Ugly: T. Masthay

Eddie Lacy is becoming more than an injury concern.
Go Pack Go! Thanks, Since '61

I think Janis got the bad because he misjudged the long throw and slowed down.

I think Ryan's grade should be tempered by the touchdown where there was no linebacker covering.
