Fun episode!

I have two major points:

1) #73 Yosh Nijman

Have you ever seen him get beat at RT this year? Who is going to do that? You can debate whether he's our 3rd or 4th best O lineman, but you can NOT debate that he's one of our best 5.

#71 Myers is one of our best 9

When he's not getting beat, when he's not bumbling a snap, the whole league knows C & RG is the weak spot to attack, and we are NOT running behind them. This greatly limits our success at best, and maybe kills it.

Two weeks ago putting #50 Tom at C was beyond obvious. Now? I'm not sure he can be given enough snaps at C to be his best. Assuming Bakh doesn't play the 5 games on artificial turf, Nijman at LT still probably makes more sense than Walker or Telfort; hopefully we get Mt Caleb back 100%. Moving Tom to RT to bring Myers in at C may not be necessary, drill Walker Telfort & Jones at RT.

It may be that #76 JRJ is fine and it's only being next to Myers that creates a weakness. Or maybe the opposite, and Myers is the better RG. That's what should have been experimented with the last two weeks (or more)

Our entire O depends on the line. Returning the best O line we had last year is not bad, but the weakness at C & RG is part of that and we have the talent to improve it.

2) Our fast offense! Today I heard ESPN radio going OFF on how fast the Miami Dolphins are; they're the fastest team in all of sports, they're the fastest roster in the NFL, yadda yadda. So I charted their depth chart:

They have 9 burners quicker than 4.40. We have 6.

WR #4 River Cracraft at 4.28 and Tyreek Hill at 4.29.

RB De'Von Achane 4.32 & CB Kevin Crossen 4.33 are both at the bottom of their depth chart. RB Mostert 4.34 is a problem, but only #205.

WR #7 Robbie Chosen 4.36. S Elijah Campbell also 4.36, #3 on their depth chart. They do not prioritize speed in their DBs. CB #12 Parry Nickerson 4.32, #10 Ethan Bonner 4.39. #9 on their depth chart Eli Apple 4.4 is nice depth.

All of that and WR #1 and RB #1 are what matters and yes they are fast.

At TE they have 2 guys who give up 20 pounds to our Luke Musgrave and are 4.5 and 4.54, #4 & 5 on their depth chart. They do have 2 guys who are about as fast as Tucker Kraft with almost as much size. Their #1 & 2 are almost as big as Musgrave and run 4.81 & 4.75. This is the comparison that matters, and yup that shows we've got something special here.

We have 4 WRs on the roster quicker than 4.40 counting Bo Melton and Cody Chrest. They have 3, with their #4 at 4.28 and #1 4.29 so we do give up a little there. Although Christian Watson was unofficially timed at 4.28 by the Packers; Idk if that was electronic or what.

At S we have 3, they have 1. Their slowest is slower than our slowest.

At CB #1 we have Ja 4.38. They have 3, # 8 10 & 12 on their depth chart.

We compare VERY well at the slower than 4.40 positions. CONCLUSION: yes, our roster is fast!!

QB--better--Love looks about as good as we hoped he would, and Clifford has aggressively assumed the backup QB role.

RB--same--Great to see Emmanuel Wilson get into the mix, but he still may not make the team.

WR--better--All three draft picks look good, especially Jayden Reed, and Malik Heath has backed up what I heard about him in the minicamps.

TE--worse--Musgrave looks really good, but nobody else does. I was hoping Kraft would've shown more by now. Deguara is still Deguara. And there's nobody else.

OL--worse--The tackles look really good and go four deep, but I did not expect Josh Myers to struggle so much at center, and there is a problem with the interior OL backups that I did not anticipate.

DL--better--Wyatt and Slaton are improved, and both rookies are looking pretty good. Even Jonathan Ford is getting into the act.

OLB--better--Surprising depth. Even Brenton Cox is showing something. It makes up for Van Ness having a slow start.

ILB--same--Same two starters and probably the same backups.

CB--better--Carrington Valentine has been a pleasant surprise. A good addition to the top three, plus Stokes will be coming back.

S--worse--My hope was that with all the guys they brought in, a couple of them would seize the moment. None of them have done that. Not even Darnell Savage, who is a starter by default.

Special teams--same--The new kicker has had his ups and downs, which is not surprising. He could go either way. If I had to bet money, I would say he'll be okay, but that is far from assured.

Final tally: 5 better, 3 worse, 3 the same.
