Mock Draft Monday
This open-thread mock draft article should provide some data from the draftniks!
I think it is time to have an open thread for mock drafts, so this is an open invitation to the readers to post their mock drafts in the comment section below. Strictly speaking, there are no rules, but I do have some requests. Please indicate which simulator you are using. I will be assuming that your mocks reflect what you believe the Packers should do, not what the Packers will do. If you would have selected a different player but could not due to the simulator you used, please make a note about that in your comment naming the player you preferred.
To the best of my knowledge, CHTV has not previously had an open thread devoted to mock drafts. I will have a follow-up article one week from today that will attempt to analyze your mock drafts. I have a couple of ideas for the methodology to employ in analyzing the data (that is, the number of mocks and which readers posted them) but it depends on the how many there are and how diverse the contributors turn out to be. I will try to incorporate trades, but I am leery of mocks with trades.
Now it seems appropriate to provide an example of what I hope to get. However, I believe today was my first time using a mock draft simulator. I feel battered. My first attempt shall never see the light of day: suffice to say that I failed to acquire a wide receiver in the first three rounds. Wilson, Olave, Burks, Williams and London were off the board. Here is another attempt (no, not my second attempt):

I probably need to stick to just doing the math on the mocks that get posted and/or work on my mock drafting skills. My first several attempts were terrible. This one is less than ideal. I didn't mean to end up with four WRs and I kept missing on some of the TEs I had in mind. I also wanted a safety but kept missing.

Well, I really like Trey McBride (ran a 4.53 to 4.56 forty recently at his pro day on hand-held stop watches) but also took two offensive players already and liked Wyatt as well. Easier decision with Mafe and McBride off the board.
Anyway, i will take a long look at the mocks to see which prospects get selected when and put it some kind of graph or table.

Trey and Alec Pierce would be great. With Tonyan and Lazard and then Cobby, we'd look good. Maybe we trade for the next Parker just to play it safe and have a sure-fire veteran X presence.

If Trey McBride goes too high, or we just can't get him, I just watched Austin Allen and Cole Turner highlights. Neither are going to set any land speed records, but with two giants like that in 3 TE sets with Marcedes, it would be glorious.
Both seems to have decent hands and both are huge. ; )

But that is exactly what real drafts are TGR, as opposed to cherry-picking in a sandbox. It’s not the art of picking the best players but of finding the best ones available from one’s draft capital.

I agree, but the higher the pick the more it's BPA. I have a feeling this could be a trade down draft in the first round unless the pick matches his board. At 22 there may be someone looking to trade up for a QB. I wouldn't mind more bites at the apple in this draft.

Yeah TGR, I hear you. I have moved away from drafting WRs at 22 on the simulators, because they keep leaving so many good ones available still at 59. The REAL draft will always be full of surprises, and I think this one will have the most surprising picks ever.
Your end result here wasn't bad at all.
I'm personally not a M Sanders fan; I don't like speed rushers who get blown out against running plays.
Your three WRs are a funny Mutt-and-Jeff group: Big slowish Burks, skinny Thornton, fast Jones.

I think 22 is about as low as Wyatt goes. When you read quotes from scouts they have him rated a lot higher than a lot of these publications(do we call them that anymore?) do. I think Wyatt will be a better overall pro than Davis will.

There ya go! I agree. I don’t see how the #1 DT drops to 22. If he did, I wouldn’t hesitate to take him… Same with Olave. Same with Lloyd.
Then again, with New Orleans in need of WR, OT & QB, having snapped the #16 & 19 away from PHI? Stranger things have happened, but every little change like this, teams wanting Offense ahead of our #22 could maybe help us to see one of those two defenders. Maybe.
Big names moving up and down draft boards = draft industry product adjustments pre-draft to get clicks/viewership. This isn’t a new thing.

Is Jordan Davis a three down player? I don't think so. That's why he might fall a little, because you want a guy you pick that high to be on the field.

It’s a solid point. There are few every down DTs who are effective and offer unique gifts in any given draft. I do think Wyatt is that. Not Davis.

I'd be more inclined to agree that Wyatt is more of a 3 down guy. Leal, too.
We have our run hog, Slaton. We have our stud, Clark. We have Lowry and Reed and they'll play most of the remaining snaps. If we have 66 defensive snaps in a game, and we play an average of 2.5 DL per snap, it'll leave us with about 155 DL snaps in a game.
About 30 will go to Slaton, on first down and short yardage. Clark will play about 50. Reed and Lowry will split the remaining 75 snaps.
So IMO, the type of defensive lineman we're looking for is not so much a Jordan Davis type, but a guy who could rotate in with Clark, Lowry, and Reed as a rookie. I don't think we'll take a DL in the Top 100.
We do not have a 3rd safety, and we like to play 3 safeties. We do not have a 3rd Edge, and we like that 3 man rotation at Edge to keep them fresh. I think both of those are more likely to be drafted than a defensive lineman on the first two days.

If he falls to 22 we may want to reconsider :) I think we would be very fortunate if he did fall to 22. I'm sure many would disagree, but I would take him over Olave at that spot.

One guy I haven't seen anybody take in these mocks is WR Erik Ezukanma from Texas Tech. I guess their starting QB got hurt or his numbers would've been a lot better. Seems like a Packer type at 6'-3" 220 lbs. Late 3rd to early 5th range.
I think it's probably because everybody takes 2 WRs early but I thought it's weird I haven't seen his name once on any mocks.

I disagree as well, you shored up the most critical position that was lacking starters and not just depth with your first two picks and got some great talent/prospects for our offense..If Gute makes those first two picks, he could draft long snappers and punters the rest of the way and I’d be happy ha..:)

#22. An extra pick we got for Adams, we spend it on a WR. Today, that's Williams.
#28. Trade down and get two good offensive linemen. Perfectly, we'd trade down with Minnesota for #46 and #77 for two offensive linemen we use to bludgeon them for the next four years .
#46 Best Olineman on the board. Today, that's Raimann.
#53 An extra pick we got for Adams, and we spend it on a WR. Today, that's David Bell from Purdue.
#59. This is the first pick we can spend on defense. Fortunately, there's a real good defensive player available and today it's Cam Thomas, an Edge.
#77. This was the pick we got for trading down, and I spend it on another unglamorous, pusher and shover. Today, it's Jamaree Salyer, who was mentioned on this site.

BIRD, I build my own, checking against Top 100s, Top 200s, Top 300s. Pour over strengths/weaknesses, metrics, Pro game attributes, try finding ascending stats, unique qualities/characteristics, check against a number of other mocks for trending, etc.
Are they true development candidates? Hot motors 100% or hot & cold? Why? Sometimes, it’s a player who hasn’t found his comfort zone yet. Do they have a history of being coachable, with results apparent statistically, situationally?
I’ve pretty much taken players like Lloyd, Olave, Wyatt off my mocks as I doubt highly they will be there anywhere close to our first pick at #22. Draft Industry drops them to keep fans hopes high, increasing engagement. They throw risers in like Watson, who’s stats are nearly identical to MVS’s (R5… 2018), just for the freakish size/speed stuff. Buzz.
These look like wish lists.
We’re all getting a feel for the players/talents available and where we might be able to take them. When I start digging in, getting some understanding of what’s out there, I usually have to check myself for how much my guesses look like wish lists. I’m always learning more through the process and rebuilding my selection lists. I’ve followed this approach for decades.
I wish Myjai’s stats warranted R2. I wish Thornton’s hands were bigger… etc. There are some characteristics players walk in with that should be immediate red flags.
A big one for me is injury history. Injured players are off my list, generally, as they tend to always be injured. Jameson Williams comes to mind here. Too much risk for such a high pick, IMO. Why do it?
Attitude is another. Watch Drake London drop like a hot rock… If he doesn’t, good, as long as someone else makes him part of their journey… talented players who don’t put in the work because their heads get too big rarely succeed: He’s coming off a broken ankle too. Whoosh. HARD PASS.

It would be fun as hell to have all the Packers Draft info and final Draft Board rankings. You know there are 100 guys that aren't even on the Packers board for various reasons that we as lay-people don't know about.
I wish NFL.com would do a hard knocks type thing in regards to the draft every year. An inside look, but you probably couldn't. Having GMs and Coaches being honest about players would get many players butt-hurt and the "Woke" crowd would throw a fit.
It would sure be interesting though.

Yeah, the player ratings are drastically different from site to site this year. Velus Jones, Alec Pierce, & Tre Turner are other guys that are upper mid rounds on some boards and 6th or 7th rounders on others. It's a crazy draft year.

Who's the best 3rd day IDL? I'd like for us to use our first three or all of our 1st and 2nd round picks towards building the offense, and the majority of the rest on defense, specifically help for Clark, another Edge guy and DBs who can also tackle. Get the honey badger!

I don't think there's a day three 3T that will be all that productive. Matthew Butler from Tennessee is probably a late 3rd, early 4th rounder who might be a serviceable 3T. He's a bit of a tweener between a 1 gapper/2 gapper but can probably eat some snaps at few spots.
For guys that can play 3-4 DE along with NT the best guys are probably Eyioma Uwazurike(Iowa State), John Ridgeway(Arkansas), Neil Farrell (LSU) and Thomas Booker(Stanford).
Noah Elliss and Marquan McCall are good late round NTs. Elliss has good bloodlines, his dad Luther played for 10 years for the Lions.

Neil Ferrell is one of my draft crushes for GB. Uwazurike is like a gigantic Tasmanian Devil that can literally play every damn DL position.

I'm well aware. And I've seen nothing that says he's out for the season. He'll have a full 6 months of recovery by the time week 1 rolls around and should play early in the season. Pre-injury, Ojabo was a surefire top 10 pick. If he falls to #28, Packers should run the card up to the podium. Pass rushers like him are rare and worth taking a chance on despite the injury.

RTS, Prospects with any extensive/major injury history -especially wheels on a SPEED player, hits my trash bin tout de suite. I hope the Packers never again draft players with injury histories. Too much risk, and every pick is valuable if you hit it right. David Bakhtiari and TJ Lang are some later round steals, illustrating how important they all can be.
This very subject came up in the most recent ESPN Mock Draft, re: Derek Stingley Jr.
No doubt he was dynamic when he was healthy. Metrics show otherwise with player availability post injury.

I used to share this mindset, and still do to a certain degree, but I've come to accept that a player staying healthy is a complete crapshoot regardless of injury history in college. A big reason the Seahawks drafted Rashaad Penny in the 1st round (big surprise at the time) was that he had the highest medical grade they have ever given a player. He carried the ball a million times in college and never popped up on the injury report a single time. Gets to the pros and is having surgery on broken fingers before even playing in a regular season game. Tears his ACL a year later. Been injured almost nonstop his entire career. Inversely, Curtis Martin fell in his draft cuz he had the reputation of being injury prone and unreliable. He ended up missing only like 5 games in 11 seasons on his way to a hall of fame career. More recently, everyone questioned if Rashan Gary's shoulder would ever be 100% coming out of college. He's missed 1 game in 3 years and that was because a fluke elbow injury last year. Only three examples but there are many others to illustrate the point. Just bet on the talent and hope for the best. Dont overthink it. Modern sports medicine is a wonderful thing.

I believe Gutey could take Ojobo too. Because the WRs @22 will be gone. And I believe Pickens is his pick @28. Just the way they're following him now. Knowing he will be positively on the board. It also fits the needs Edge,Wr,DL. And Wyatt is dropping big time.

This seems like a great idea, even to a fan who has never even heard of the vast majority of the players eligible for the draft.
I do know Leo Chanel of Wisconsin. After the big miss of not drafting T.J. Watt, it may be good for the Packers to select a Wisconsin linebacker now and then.
As I remember Chanel, he loves to tackle, and he's good at it. That seems a good starting point in evaluating any linebacker.

LOL. Just sharing a little fun with you, TGR. At least, you've got the stones to try a simulator for the fun of it. I couldn't do it...
Despite that, I believe your pick of Burks - could - hit at #28. I'd LOVE that too. I think he might drop a bit, maybe into the top of R2. One of those perfect board dropping candidates. Players who are specifically schemed for, 40 times and route running questions usually rear their ugly heads at WR as we get closer to the day of reconning. There will be a lot of movement going forward over these next 3+ weeks. Burks is not going to be a riser. I bet he'll be the opposite. Right into our laps is cool with me, because I think he can offer more than others might realize, and can develop.
- Olave won't be even close to 22. He'll be gone by #12 or so.
- Wyatt might slide into top R2, but, I doubt it.
- Myjai Sanders? He's pedestrian. There is INSANE EDGE talent to be had. Keep looking.
- Switch Velus for Tyquan. You know that gal on SNL with the tiny hands? Yeah... No contested catches won by Thornton.

If their version of Edge guy is off the board look into some of the five tech profiles. I would not mind a guy to take Lowry's spot on early downs.

Consider this. Tyquan is 6-2 181 and runs 4.28… He’s a field stretcher Ala MVS, but WAAAAAYYYYY FASTER, and a better catcher of the football. R5??? Why not???
Tyquan had more yards, more TDs, more receptions etc. than MVS’s South Florida numbers coming in. You’re getting him late in the draft for free? No brainer to me.
This is exactly what I meant when mentioning that the Packers really are in need of a VARIETY of different WR types. He would fill the role of your split-end, just flying on the outside commanding Safety help due to his insane speed.
He’s not your YAC guy. He’s a highly specialized can opener. Take that top clean off. WHOOOOSH!
I mistakenly dissed him early for his 7 7/8” hands, but I hadn’t really researched that then. He does have sticky hands. He’s a gazelle who can fly faster than anyone in the draft and he can catch, with the numbers to prove it.

I almost picked Lloyd at 22, but I couldn't pass up London. Lloyd and Brisker would really help the D.
Watson and Pierce are two boom-or-busts, I'd avoid taking the two together.
Kolar and Woods is a nice pairing.

Nice draft but I would be going T/G in the 4th round with all that depth on the board. Woods and Kolar are interesting prospects but with all that quality in the OL class, this is the year to perhaps get a starting T and/or quality depth at one of the most important rooms on the Packers.
After losing Turner, Patrick and Kelly unsigned. relying on the PS, UDFA's or cheap FAs, would be dangerous...especially with a 38 year old QB and two thoroughbred RBs.

Booker is a hard one to figure. Had a really good 10 yard split and 7.33 3-cone at the combine at 301 lbs(above the 90th percentile in both). He has a thick lower body and big hands and arms and a narrow torso that might lend him to be a decent penetrator. Saw a lot of double teams and struggled against them but won't see nearly as many in the pros. He was up to 310 lbs at the Shrine Bowl and then down 10 lbs at the combine less than a month later. Did he lose it to test faster or struggle keeping weight on?
I've seen him anywhere from the 2nd to the 7th round.

Yeah, some of these guys who ran well at the combine made themselves some money. I don't know where Gutey values him, or even if he's on his board, but I won't mind where he drafts Danny Gray as long as he does. His speed is amazing.
If you find a way to get DG into space, he will be deadly. Period.

Eh… It’s really difficult to say how much more of a priority TE is than WR, not knowing Tonyan’s status, nor Deguara’s… Doesn’t appear to be a deep group at TE. There is only a few I like this draft. Hitting TE early with one of the best of the class in our first 4-5 picks seems smart to me.
Add to that, TE can take the longest to develop. An F TE might be easier to bring along more quickly.
My thing is Aaron Rodgers appears to be QB1 this coming season. He needs starters he can trust. Knowing what we know, he’s going to want the best we can give him.
For this reason, I’m crossing any WR with previous injuries off my list, as I think Gutekunst is doing the same knowing there really is no margin for error.
We don’t need to go apeshit there, but 2 top talents in our first 4 selections ought to do it. Guessing if Aaron really is all in, Lazard will be too. There’s enough depth to pound the position further later for depth/specific concepts. Add a high quality Flanker, and a high quality slot in that first 4 or 5 picks.

Taking BPA at 25 instead of Olave from CB-OT-DL whichever is actually the best player makes this a slam dunk for me.
There is enough WR potential with Watson, Tolbert and Gray (I prefer V Jones instead of Gray, but I know that you love Gray).

I just saw that extra "gear" Danny Gray has and imagined him on bubble screens, jet sweeps, etc. He can absolutely fly in the open field. He can be very dangerous. V. Jones already has a President of his fan club in LLChesty, so it's only fair Danny Gray has representation too. ; )

Have never used a draft simulator before nor plan to. Been a big draft fan for decades. I like to predict the top couple of players the Packers might draft and then set back and watch on draft night for fun. My recent success was calling the Jordan Love selection in advance. The rare prediction success! I acknowledge in advance my approach below is not what you are wanting but I never try getting to emotional or detailed/specific in who I want drafted.
I will be happy with whomever Gutey drafts knowing he knows much better than I how players are ranked. My main hopes for the 2022 draft are simply talented players at WR, DL/EDGE, and OT. These are my main concerns though a good development move TE in rounds 3/4 would also be nice along the way.
My biggest draft hope would be drafting Jameson William's, WR as he is the dominant WR in draft. He will not be available by the 22 pick therefore Gutey would need to trade up and depending on what it would take I probably would not want to do that. If Gutey choose to use draft capital to move up I would support it even though I hate giving up draft capital. Jameson would be the only player in this draft I think would be worthy of a move up based on need.
With Jameson aside there are so many good WR's that I would hope the Packers take one in Rd 1, and another in Rd 2. Then a 3rd WR mid-round between 3rd - 5th rounds. WR's usually take awhile to develop so take three this year as we have 11 selections.
I would like 3 of any of these WR's below for boundary, taking top off/speed, and slot utilizing the right combination of speed and size:
-Jameson Williams (favorite)
-Garrett Wilson (this is closest to Adam's in ability to run routes and seperate. Love this guy!)
-Jahan Dotson (love this guy's hands and ability to high point passes. Can pass ball too. Would be great asset! Him and Shakir seem similar).
-Treylon Burks (great size & strength and would be asset)
-George Pickens (like Burks would be great addition. Seem very similar to Burks).
-Danny Gray (just very smooth and great runner. I like him better than Olave who everyone seems to want).
-Chris Olave (good player but don't have him rated as high as most)
-Christian Watson - (great size/speed and like him but as the second WR selected and would take over Olave).
-Skyy Moore (good player but have Amari and Cobb, and like others better)
-Kahlil Shakir (like him more than Skyy. Absolutely amazing hands and catches with one hand better than anyone. Kahlil and Dotson have best hands in draft and compare them similarly though Dotson can pass).
-Velus Jones Jr. a very good WR much like Dotson, Skyy, Kahlil, and even like Garrett. Same type of slashing runner who makes the tough catches in traffic. My type of WR vs straight line WR's. He is a fantastic Kick Returner on ST's. Keep eye on him.
-Jalen Tolbert (see Danny Gray, Watson and Pierce but probably like Watson, Gray and Pierce better).
-Alec Pierce (would be between Pierce, Watson, Tolbert and Gray)
-Justyn Ross (injury risk but great pickup in mid rounds as the 3rd WR)
-Calvin Austin III (another favorite as the Tyrell Hill clone. If available in RD 3 I'd snag him, or possibly even in trade back in Rd 2 depending on who Pack drafted earlier. Calvin would totally change how MLF would operate the offense. Amazing gadget player).
All the above are very talented. It is a simply a matter of drafting the best combination of WR's to compliment the Packer offense scheme. The Packer fans are going to be delighted with who they draft.
Need one stud DL, or Edge player in Rd 1, or Rd 2. Maybe two of these players and if they did the defense would be incredibly stout!
My choices would be any of either Devonte Wyatt, Boye Mafe, David Ojabo, or Jordan Davis.
Offensive Line I'd prefer an OT! I believe the Packers will draft an OT in either Rd 1, or Rd 2. Then the 2nd OL will be an IOL in Rd 4.

Defenses would hate defending Calvin on reverses, and out of backfield.

I tried PFF but hate the grades. They have D.Hill high but low on grade. The #28 pick could be traded. And the fight for Hill: will between the Chiefs, and the Jets trading up. I came close to yours on PFF.

Like Nagler I think this year would have been the time to rip off the band aid. Using pff and assuming the Packers would have netted the same draft capital as Seattle did for Wilson, I start the draft by forcing a trade: Rodgers for 2022 picks 9, 40, 152 and 2023 R1 & R2 picks. It's pure fantasy but it's a lot of fun pretending to be Gute with all those extra picks.

Eyioma Uwazurike... I really like him. 6' 6" 316 lbs. Long arms. NFL.com has him the 8th best DT. I like him better than Matthew Butler, who is rated one slot ahead of him.

Me too. I have him ahead of Ridgeway now. I wish he would've tested more but he looks pretty explosive and smooth on the stuff I've watched. Played all three IDL spots and even some Edge.
Neil Farrell looks really good on tape but he tested so poorly I think something is up with him. Had just a 21 5" vertical that was under the 1% percentile for D linemen! I think he might eat himself out of the league, his weight is all over the place.

Packers seem to gravitate towards some of the unheralded players. Eyioma Uwazurike could be one of them. Great value. Perfect addition to our DL. Glad you drafted him, because I had to watch his tape after. He's high on my must have list.

Using the PFF draft simulator I drafted the following
1(22). Devonte Wyatt DL I wanted to get somebody for the front 7. I had a choice between Wyatt and Ojabo. WR Olave was already off the board
1(28). Treylon Burks WR I was planning to wait until the second round to pick up a couple of receivers. I think safety is an underrated need for this team. Unfortunately Lewis Cine was taken by Tampa right before my pick at 28
2(53). Kingsley Enagbare ED There were no Safeties remaining that I wanted to pick this high. So I went edge rusher. Enagbare was the best remaining edge rusher on the board. This might be a spot where the Packers look to trade up into the early 40's
2(59). Jalen Tolbert WR Tolbert, Watson, and Pierce were all left. Watson might have the most raw talent. Pierce and Tolbert are legit deep threats. I thought Tolbert might have the most impact this year

Ross Uglem of Packer Report has Watson ranked #20 overall, so if other GMs have him rated even close to that, he won't be available in the 2nd round. Might not even make it to #28 in the 1st round.

PFN again. I like how this one turned out a bit more than my earlier one. Don't know anything about Andrew Ogletree but he's 6'-5" 260lbs with a 9.87 RAS. Sounds like a STer to me! If nothing else maybe he makes the PS for a year.

Logan Hall was up to 288 lbs at Houston's pro day. I really want the Packers to end up with one of the 4 of Wyatt, Winfrey, Jones or Hall. I think Davis is most likely gone by 22 and Wyatt probable is. Hall reminds me of Buckner, not quite as stout but moves a little better. Saw him cut off a couple RBs to the corner. Travis Jones vs Clemson is a fun watch if you get a chance. He just made himself at home in their backfield!

While looking at these mock drafts by fans randomly, it seems there isn't much emphasis on drafting for the offensive line or defensive line -- which is another way of saying your selections seem to stand out, BIRDDOG.
What's your thinking as far as taking Penning and Wyatt as our top picks for the Packers?

It seems a lot of fans like Christian Watson at WR, but I think I read one comment here at CHTV that he's not very accomplished in his route running. Is he ready to make an impact as a rookie?

Games are won and lost in the trenches. Secure OL and DL and we beat the 9'ers.
IDK if Watson will make an impact as a rookie. He has the speed to take the top off the defense like MVS. Roughly the same height and weight as MVS. Looks much more fluid than MVS though. He ran a few end arounds in his college highlights and looks like a much better mover than MVS.
MVS had straight-line speed, but he wasn't really a good mover IMO. Watson seems much more ready than MVS was. Guess we'll find out when footballs start flying for real.

Looks like doing mock drafts is super popular. I like doing them, so here is mine. I started drafting on Thedraftnetwork, but seeing WRs Jameson Williams and Chris Olave both still there at #28 made me doubt them, so I used the PFN simulator instead and accepted no trades. Thanks to Bootleg Football podcasts and Chris Simms WR evaluations, for inspiring me to take several of these pick choices.
1/22 S Daxton Hill. 6'0", 192, 4.3 40. Ultra-elite explosive athlete, fluid, can handle single high coverage. Only 20 yrs old. Not the greatest need, but a value pick. Edge Karlaftis was tempting here (went at the next pick).
1/28 WR Alec Pierce 6'3", 208, 4.33 40. The top receivers are bigger/slower types or skinny/fast ones. I went for a better Packers fit. A reach ? Depends on who you listen to.
2/53 WR Christian Watson 6'4", 208, 4.36 40. Like Pierce, tall, not too thin, and very quick. He was also the top player left on the board at this point.
2/59 DT/Edge Logan Hall 6'6", 283, RAS 9.82 It was him or big Edge Cameron Thomas (who went at 73). Liked TE McBride here too, who went at the next pick, but I got my blocking TE later.
3/92 TE Cade Otton 6'5", 247 I said I'd get my blocking TE later and here he is. Not that fast but very versatile. A smart, top 3 blocking TE with nice hands.
4/132 Edge Dominique Robinson 6'5", 253. 41" vert. 9.39 RAS. Hall (pick 59) was big for an Edge guy so here is a lighter, faster guy.
4/140 OT Obinna Eze 6'6", 321. The OT I really wanted was Dare Rosenthal (went at #138, so I should have grabbed him at #132) but here is another athletic big guy with upside.
5/171 LB Zakoby McClain 5'11", 228. Undersized but fast. Gets through traffic well. ST could be his home early on. Didn't see anyone else to get excited over.
7/236 WR Tanner Connor 6'3", 236, 4.37 40, 39.5" vert. A 3rd receiver ? Am I losing it ? Well just looks at those physicals and he has a good work ethic and improving route running. Great addition for ST coordinator Bisaccia, as well.
7/249 C/G Luke Fortner 6'4", 307. Won all his reps at the Senior Bowl. Tends to put his hands high and wide, so he should adapt well to the hands-on-shoulders technique the Packers pioneered.
7/258 Edge Kyron Johnson 6'1", 235, 4.36 40, 39.5" vert. Super athletic guy for ST, and more if he can handle it.
I got more at some positions than was absolutely necessary (3x WRs and 3x Edges) but they are either different types, or are a later pick with too much upside to pass on (like 7th round WR Tanner Connor and Edge Kyron Johnson). Struggled most with my round 4 and 5 picks, but very happy with the draft overall.

I took Eze in a couple mocks too but then I saw he had an 8.2 3-cone. Packers almost always draft guys with a 7.77 3-cone or better. I think Fortner would beat out Hanson for the backup C spot without too much trouble. Underrated player.

Tried the same draft again and got the same guys up to round 4. Remembering what happened first time around, this time I took OT Dare Rosenthal at 132 and Edge Josh Paschal at 140, which to my mind is a better pair than Robinson/Eze. Rosenthal doesn't have a 3 cone time.

All the receivers I was willing to take in the first round were gone by pick 21, but Hill and Wyatt are high upside players who can contribute this year but learn from the starters and take over in a few years. I love the Christian Watson pickup in the second round, getting a big and fast receiver. Ruckert in the third is someone I've heard good things about, so I think that's a solid selection. After that, I don't know the prospects, so I just took the best player available (according to PFN) at a position of need.

I could see the Packers being really high on Paschal. Played quite a few snaps inside for Kentucky. Good athlete with some Z qualities.
He was a captain as a Sophmore, a scout told Zierlein he's all about ball. I don't think he lasts til 171 though. PFN has him in the 190s but PFF and TDN both have him around 70.

Perhaps another approach would be to name the players that the Packers should not take in the draft, at least in the early rounds.
Otherwise, it may seem as though there are so many awesome players available in this draft -- especially at wide receiver -- that Gute could make his selections blindfolded and throwing darts at photos of those available.
I don't want to be too harsh on any of these young athletes, but there may be highly touted players that just wouldn't work for the needs of the Packers for one reason or another. (We don't want a Tony Mandarich scenario, for example.)
We hope and pray that they all get their acts together to reach their full potentials as players and persons, but we may not be wanting to take a chance on them at this time for our team.

At the WR position I really do agree that it isn't so much about one particular WR as much as how two (#1 and #2) WR's compliment each other with size, speed, hands, high pointing, back shoulder catches, slants, etc. Cannot get two WR's very similar to one another unless they do all those things reasonably well.
As a joke....I do like the WR names of Watson and Dotson as our two starting WR's.

Sorry gg - I have to disagree with you. Granted, I only watched his highlights, but Christian Watson moves much better than MVS. Better body control, better high-pointing the ball. Able to accelerate better than MVS. Carries the ball much more naturally than MVS, IMO.
Just watch Watson on an end around and you can see the difference in Watson and MVS. Watson is natural with the ball in his hands. MVS, I loved the kid, but he's not a natural with the ball in his hands.

From a Catch% standpoint, both Watson and Pierce are better WRs than MVS. Both Watson (69%) and Pierce (63%) are far and away more efficient. Both are classic - dependable - deep threats. (*Note: Skyy Moore blazes 75%, Burks screams in at 73%, Dotson at 66% Olave 64%). Those are all GREAT #s. They really are.
(As a refresher, MVS had a Catch% of 47.3% 2021, 52.4% 2020, 46.4% 2019, 52.1% 2018)
My thinking was more in terms of what we are used to seeing from the days that really were glory days in terms of WR talent here in GB: VOLUME WRs...
Jordy Nelson was a volume WR. Greg Jennings was a volume WR.
Watson had 42 rec. 801 yds and 18.6 ypr 69c%
Pierce 52 rec. for 873 yds and 16.8 ypc 63c%
Burks 65 rec for 1100 yds and 16.9 ypr. 73c%
Dotson 91 rec for 1182 yds and a 13.0 ypr 66c%
Moore 125 rec for 1291 yds and 13.7 ypr 76c% ****
We don't have the Targets data, but Jordy had 122 rec for 1606 yds and 13.2 ypr. Jennings had 98 rec for 1259 yds and 12.8 ypr.
Skyy Moore is really the only WR who comes close to Jordy and Jennings-like #s - and he hardly gets a mention. I'll give you, BIRD, Watson looked good on the Jet, and Pierce does too. MVS couldn't hold a candle to what they can offer there... either.
I'd be very happy taking Burks 22 and Moore 28. Maybe even the other way around. Who knows? Maybe add Watson or Pierce later? Or, somebody else?

I just want two good WRs in this draft. Because I'm a fan of simplicity, I'd use the picks we got for Adams (#22 and #53) I can get somebody better than Watson at #22, but if he's still there at #53, I'd take him.

Team Gutey will face probably the greatest boom and bust draft ever. 2020 Covid season was a major disruption for player evaluation data. So was 2021 with all the Covid "protocols".
This is a potential BOOM year for the best NFL personnel departments to shine. Many will over-draft or pass over future all pro prospects.
Is Team Gutey one of the best? This will be their 5th draft. I expect they have learned a thing or two.

I really just thought this was a pretty good exercise for +/- 2 draft slotting checked against the 3 traditional mainstays in NFL Draft publishing going back decades. They were my resources back then, and I find them to be pretty reliable for determining value to this day.
A bit limited with the option of only going +/- 2, but I find that to be fair R1. Could probably go +/- 3 for R2 and +/- 4 for R3.

Frankly, I have major concerns with all those posters who mainly use mock draft simulators who outline who they want the Packers to draft at WR.
My question is...who originally comes out with the internet ratings of these players elgible in the draft? Because following this everyone (the so called draft experts performing mock drafts) use pretty much the same player metrics and ratings over and over. I find it astounding how many pimply faced young men in their teens and early 20's are submitting video and mock drafts to the internet from the basement of their parents homes, or from some apartment rental and they are now the football experts. Everyone pretty much steals and regurgitates the same player rankings over and over, which is why so many people get upset following a Packer draft.
Until yesterday, I had never wanted to try all these mock draft simulators because they all seem to be based on similar player ratings that someone created at some point along the way. I spent a little time on three different simulators and I admit they are fun, particularly to kill some time on slow days. However, here is my concern with the mock draft simulators which may make some of those on CCTV who use them unhappy. Unless you have taken the time to record and watch the WR's at the scouting combine to compare them, and have spent time watching all the Youtube video's on each of the top WR's you have no clue how to correctly evaluate the WR's. All you are doing is regurgitating what these internet people say about a player. You need to take the time to learn each of their strengths where you are able to form your own judgement and evaluation. When you use the draft simulators as your main system to evaluate a player you truly have zero idea about these WR's and who might be the best fit for the Packers. You don't know which WR they should draft at various draft positions. You simply are assuming these players are accurately rated and believe everything written about that player on the simulators.
I want to clearly state I am not an expert (far from it) by any means but I firmly believe watching and evaluating these players play is the ONLY way to really have a good idea who are the better players and how they each should be ranked. By doing so it really helps for you to determine which WR's would make a great #1 and #2 combination to compliment one another in the Packer offense. My suggestion is before using mock draft simulators you watch the Scouting Combine, as well as players Youtube video's to form your very own evaluation. Only after doing this you play with the Mock Draft Simulators. If you do it in reverse you will have tainted and a distorted view of these players. In future drafts I will now utilize mock draft simulators for fun but only after I have formed my own personal opinion on players from the Scouting Combine, and watching their Youtube video's. I recommend you do as well!

Call me crazy, but I like how this one turned out. The Fanspeak board I used had Christian Watson as the 20th overall rated player.
So I went ahead and took him at 22. A great Safety at 28, great LBer at 53, decent DL depth at 59, two of the fastest playmakers in the league with Velus and Danny. Two of the biggest TEs in the draft. Best punter alive. Decent OT prospect. The fastest CB in the league in Kalon. He reminds me of Sam Shields. Raw and a burner.

I'm feeling more and more like three of the first four picks should be defense, and then offense for the rest of the draft. There is much, better depth at WR, OL, and TE on day three, but I think all the good defensive players will gone by the end of the third round.

This was a really weird draft for me. Penning fell to 22, and with Jenkins not coming back until maybe mid-season, I couldn't pass him up. Then Derek Stingley falls to 28 and you can't pass up talent like that, not when we might have trouble re-signing Jaire. Arguably 4 decent pass catchers with speed. Edge, ILBer, DL, and S, plus an upside OT with an excellent RAS score.
Gutey could easily do worse.

Used the Profootballnetwork sim because of the ability to trade without upgrading. I traded aggressively (back in the beginning then up towards the end). I benefited greatly, getting considerable draft capital, from three teams aggressively trading for picks #22, #28, and #33 (gained from trading 28.) Except for picks 53 and 59, these picks are not those currently assigned to the Packers. The only two players I regret not getting using this method is WR George Pickens who went at pick 39 and TE James Mitchell at 164.

I understand this is a very unrealistic draft but I had fun doing it. I doubt the Packers draft 11 players. What I like about this draft is reinforcing both OL and DL, safety and LB with quality talent while getting additional draft capital for next year (bonus!) Investing 3 high picks at WR seems positive, all of whom i think have tremendous potential in ML offense, but there is a chance that it turns out to be like 2018.

Completely unrealistic, and I LOVE the results! :-D
Jones and Hall, and Hill and Tindall and Ebiketie are huge upgrades to the defense.
Watson, Pierce, and EE add deep speed, blocking and special teams play...though maybe not great short and medium WR play.
Rosenthal and Tom are good developmental OL.
Huge plus is getting two second round picks next year!

The way I've heard it. Watson will be in the first round. His hands have improved. He only dropped two passes last year. Greatly improved from previous years. Gutes in Love with Pickens. He's late first rd now. (Climbing)
