Mike McCarthy: Datone Jones is Feeling Better

The Packers head coach commented on his defensive lineman being listed as questionable on the team's injury report.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy met with the media on Friday for the final time before the upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins. Here are select quotes from his press conference:

  • On Datone Jones and his sprained ankle: I talked to Datone this morning, he's feeling better. We'll see what he can do on the field tomorrow.
  • On Jones being listed as "questionable" on the injury report:  I would hope if he we were practicing today, he would have been out there in some form or fashion. But he's optimistic.
  • On making gameday decisions on injured players: That's why you take in all the information. You have to know your players from that perspective. … Sometimes the conversations you have with your players are almost useless. I've never been told, 'I'm not going to play.'
  • On injured players that are veterans: I'm talking more about the younger players. … The veterans have a little better understanding of their body, what they can do. The younger guys want to play.
  • On the 94th year in Packers history and a sign in the locker room: 94 Alpha, that's our theme for the year.
  • On Nick Perry: Nick Perry is a good football player. You look for production based on playing time. … He's had injury situations. Hopefully this is the year he gets over that hurdle. … You learn to play through different things, and you learn more about your body. … Nick Perry to me has always a tough, physical, strong football player.
  • On Kevin Dorsey: I have a lot of confidence in Kevin Dorsey. If he needs to play on offense, we'll put him in there and cut him loose. … I'm excited for him to get an opportunity this week in Miami.
  • On using two running backs: Offensively our reps are not where we want to be. … I'm hoping obviously to feature Eddie (Lacy). …. We definitely want to roll (Lacy and James Starks) in. It's a long year. We have confidence in both those guys.
  • On offensive efficiency: We have goals. Anytime you put together a plan and how you train your team and what you're trying to get to, you have to put goals out there. … I think we averaged about 70 plays last year. …  If you can add five plays a game, that's another 80 for the season. … We're obviously on a different path for the last couple games. We've scored a bunch a points in a limited number of plays. … You have to have big plays in this league. … We're doing a good job of that.
  • On Corey Linsley: From a confidence standpoint, it never wavered because of what you seen in training camp. He's a powerful young man. He fit right in. That's why i was never worried about him. He's very sharp, very detailed.
  • On Brandon Bostick: I don't think it's as much about what's holding Brandon back. I think (Andrew Quarless and Richard Rodgers) are doing a better job of blocking on the line of scrimmage. … It's really more of a product of Andrew and Richard performing. … I wouldn't be surprised if those opportunities came Sunday.

You are so right. Ugh.

But didn't we already know Bostick wasn't much of a blocker since we've been comparing him so much to Finely?

Regarding Bostick and Rodgers, is this some kind of weird, indecipherable coach-speak?
