Far be it from me to unearth the obvious, but something that has not been getting a lot of play in the Wisconsin (or, God-forbid, national) media is the fact that Brett Favre has not turned the ball over. Not one time.

What does this mean? Not a lot. It is August after all. But it's interesting to note, if only for two reasons:

1. Every preceding training-camp and pre-season has given Wisconsin sportswriters ample ammo to over analyze and deconstruct every Favre mistake and to interpret it in a 'sky-is-falling' manner. Let's face it, the media likes it when the there's something negative to harp on (see the sudden explosion of 'the running game's in trouble' articles) and without any interceptions of fumbles from Favre, in the media's eyes, there's nothing to report on.

Which brings me to:

2. Favre is buying into McCarthy's plea to take on a more 'managed' approach to the offense. Oh, he's still gunning it every once in a while. He's gone deep once each to Driver and Jennings (neither one complete) but over all, he's made good reads and taken sacks or thrown it away when nothing is there. Again, in a world where 'if it bleeds, it leads' Favre's mature play isn't exciting or controversial. Hell, most observers probably think 'it's about damn time' for a quarterback of Favre's age to be playing a smarter game. But he is, and he'll need to carry that type of play over into the regular season if this team is to have any chance at all.

Now again, it's August. All of the above means nothing at all. But I find it interesting that through three preseason games, the turnover machine that is Brett Favre has not turned it over one time.
