Packers Question of the day - Knile Davis: Yay or Nay?

The Packers sent over a 7th-round draft pick to Kansas City in return for 25-year old Knile Davis on Tuesday morning. A move that shocked many, considering just 12 hours earlier, the plan was to promote Don Jackson from the practice squad to add depth to the running back position.

A day later, Jackson remains on the practice squad, and a number 30 is suited up in green and gold with "Davis" printed on the back of the jersey. This comes with new details of Eddie Lacy's ankle injury which seems to be more than just an ankle injury and may keep him sidelined for several weeks.

With the thought of a depleted group aside, was the swap for Davis a good move or a bad move? Speculate as well as you can, since there hasn't been much of a sampling size of him in Green Bay just yet. He may his first audition on Thursday night, however.

Traded for the 4th stringer out of KC... Excuse me for not being giddy... Lacy had more yards last year then this dude in his 4 year career

Considering he's still playing on a rookie contract and was a 4th round pick, yup, he'll be "dam dam cheap".

Yay or Nay?

What choice do they have? Realistically, he's auditioning for the backup role for the next few years, and if he takes the job by the b@lls, he could make Eddie Lacy expendable.

Yep, not that much choice. Packers needed a warm body there and they have one. Not a great talent, but not a total stiff either, about what you would expect at this time of year.

Have you investigated his performance over the 4 years. He's a speedy RB who can't hang on to the ball. Getting Marshall Newhouse would have been a better trade!!!!!!

Didn't cost much to get him. I know people will be nervous about getting a 4th stringer, but we didn't get him to have him be the #1 guy. Just a fill-in until #1 and #2 get healthy. We'll still see Montgomery in the backfield and I don't doubt by the end of the day today they make a roster move and get Jackson on the active. There's a lot of tough transactions. We have 11 guys that are injured that can't play. And you can't IR everyone. So who do you kick off the 53 without screwing the other positions? Some guys may not even be eligible for PS anymore.

We will find out how it works out for us.

I like the move.
Its a very low risk move. Costs them a conditional draft pick a year from now, in which they obtained by trading McCray to the Bills... So not a loss at all. This was a good move.

With Lacy out they don't need Davis to come in and give us what Lacy gave us. That's unfair. What they need is for him to come in and give us positive plays when he is in there. Perhaps using his speed to put a little more stress on defenses.

When looked at that way, it's also a conditional 7th round pick for a back who was a third rounder.

exactly. Davis has talent. Its worth that for sure. And the conditional 7th round pick basically was given to them for a player they were likely going to cut...

But he's been benched so may times in his career because he can't hang on to the ball. But I am sure McFatty has a plan - "work on the fundamentals"

They had to do something, and we have another load the boat with one thing and throw the others out the other side. It takes balance and early we were short players. We have the injury bug going full throttle now, Shields is the worst one and he will very much be missed.

He's a lesser version of Starks. He is speedy has so so hands and fumblessed. Not a huge fan of this move. I was impressed with him in college but not so much after that. Oh well it's the bullsh#t TT way. The only problem is with our passing game struggling the way it has been we needed to lean on the run more so.....what are we gonna do now?

Yay or Nay? I say let's wait and see. I'll be satisfied if he makes a few positive plays and most importantly doesn't hurt us with fumbles. Anything beyond that will be a pleasant and welcomed surprise. Thanks, Since '61

This will be a good test of our coaching. The positional coaches will be working overtime with both the RBs and CBs. Our offensive coaches will need to start utilizing more guys and getting creative. Now we'll see what kind of staff we really have. Heaven help us.

It is impossible for our coaches to get creative or they would have done it a year ago. They should all be on the dole by he end of the year

I'm on board with this move, though I still want Jackson up from the PS. A few week ago, I warned that if Lacy/Starks got hurt, we'd be in trouble. While I think that the team can make it by for now with Davis, this situation validates my hope the RB position will be overhauled next draft.

Yeah, I heard they are bringing Jackson up. I just wish they would have last week when they really needed another option outside of Lacy.

Next years draft looks really good for RBs. I hope they get one high.

Eh, I'd take this year's Jake Butt or Jeremy Sprinkle over Henry. I'm think CB 1st, then RB, then a TE or a lineman. For RB's, you should check out an under the radar prospect from BYU named Jamaal Williams. Guys got some real talent.

Why is him being a 4th stringer so important when our offense plays like 7th stringers, especially at QB.

Yay or Nay ??

Can't possibly know this until we see some carries. I'm not sure that that is even the issue. This whole situation is another example of TT's incompetence as a GM. -- TT needs to go away before GB needs to be completely rebuilt just to compete.

A SB contender?? -- Not hardly.

By now, you all have heard that Jackson got called up from the PS. For gosh sakes, why did they wait so long? Going into last week, Starks was out and Lacy was already hobbled. What was TT thinking? I guess 'better late than never' comes to mind.

My biggest problem with Thompson was that he needed to do something when they had 1 RB at 75% if that... Just a huge mistake on him.

I like the trade. Its a low risk/high reward type of trade. Essentially it won't cost anything. And at the very least he won't be any worse then Starks who has been awful...

Davis has a chance now to show what hes got. He's a North-South back with breakaway speed. He didn't get a chance with the Chiefs because his pass game needed work and the other guy could catch. He did show improvement along with his ball handling skills but he didn't get a lot of play last year because of that. If he steps up to prove himself, it will be a good move if he can stay healthy. Hopefully they actually do bring up Jackson too.

Well I did say yesterday we may have seen the last of Lacy in GB. Now with this announcement he's on the IR, I'd say he may be done unless he takes close to a min deal next year. Perpetually injured and unable to control the weight, it's a tough situation for a guy with so much natural talent. If it comes down to Lacy or Shields coming back it will be interesting to see what they do. I'd suspect it all depends on IF they are in contention for anything by then. There's a real chance this season is pretty much "up in smoke" with all these top line players out.
