Hello Wisconsin: Reliving Recent Games in the Ultra-Cold Weather

There have been plenty of cold-weather games in recent Packers history, but few quite as cold as what we're projected to see Sunday.

As of Wednesday, reports were that the temperature at kickoff for Packers/Vikings on Sunday evening would be four degrees. Fahrenheit.

Yeah, glad I”ll be watching this one from the comfort of my rec room.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure the atmosphere at Lambeau is going to be absolutely electric. But four degrees!? Absolutely not.

Temperatures that cold mess with the minds of any player on the field. As much as football players try to act macho about the cold, nobody is having a good time at four degrees. It will be fascinating to see how the teams adjust their game plans. One has to think a good deal of running the ball will be in order, because teams are going to want to burn clock and get out of there before they freeze. But who knows–the Packers’ bread and butter is letting it fly, and Aaron Rodgers is going to want to add to his record touchdown total.

The news of the pending cold weather game had me reflecting on some of the other cold weather games in recent memory. Obviously the Packers and Lambeau FIeld hold the record for the coldest game in NFL history, the iconic Ice Bowl played exactly 54 years ago tomorrow at -13 degrees (48 below wind chill).

There was also the 1996-1997 NFC Championship game, a balmy 3-degree affair in which the Packers beat the Carolina Panthers to advance to their first Super Bowl since the Lombardi era.

But there have been plenty of other more recent contests that stick out as being extremely cold matchups, and are quite memorable as well (for better or for worse).

Here’s a quick list to take you back to some of these cold weather battles.

  • January 20, 2008: Giants 23, Packers 20. In the 2007-2008 NFC Championship game, the temperature was -1 at kickoff. It was a rough outing for the Packers, as Brett Favre’s final game in the green and gold ended in heartbreak on an interception. The Giants’ defense smothered the Packers, Favre looked miserable in the cold and a magical season ended in despair.

  • January 5, 2014: 49ers 23, Packers 20: Another heartbreaking playoff loss for the Packers, and the second in a row at the hands of the 49ers. The Packers were a Micah Hyde interception away from advancing, but the ball flew off his fingertips and the Packers ended up losing late in a tough, tough contest. Temperature was 5 degrees at kickoff.

  • December 8, 2013: Packers 22, Falcons 21. Matt Flynn and the Packers did just enough to move past the Falcons in a game that helped the Packers stay afloat in their pursuit of an NFC North championship that went right down to the wire in week 17 at Chicago. Temperature was 9 degrees at kickoff.

  • December 7, 2008: Texans 24, Packers 21. In Aaron Rodgers’ first year as the starter, the Packers had quite a few games that ended with close scores that just got away from them. This was one of those. It was 3 degrees at kickoff, and unfortunately this one just didn’t turn out in Green Bay’s favor.

  • December 18, 2016: Packers 30, Bears 27: This game, played at Soldier Field, featured a game-time temperature of 11 degrees and wind chill of -4 degrees. The game came down to the wire, with Jordy Nelson keeping the Packers’ run-the-table stretch alive with a late deep reception to set up a Mason Crosby game winner.

Of the 15-coldest games ever played at Lambeau Field, the Packers have won only six. Those six victories came in 1993 against the Los Angeles Raiders (Lambeau Leap game), 1997 against the Panthers, 1992 against the Rams, 2013 against the Falcons, 1972 against the Lions and 1977 against the Lions.

Simply put, the Packers have historically not performed incredibly well in extreme cold. But this is a new team and a new circumstance. The weather is a great equalizer, in a sense, in that nobody enjoys playing football in weather that is this cold.

The Packers will need to take a mind-over-matter approach and find a way to win in adverse conditions.

Wisconsin Beer of the Week

Young Blood Beer Company is one of my favorite up-and-coming breweries in the state. It is relatively new to the scene but has already become my favorite Madison area brewery, beating out such stalwarts as Karben4, Vintage and Ale Asylum. I had the opportunity to visit the tap room near the capitol this summer and very much enjoyed it.

Young Blood does a variety of styles quite well, but where they really make their hay is with their sours.

This particular beer, which they call Clarence Creedwater Revival, is a tropical sour with dragonfruit, tangerine and guava. Extremely pleasant and fruity, with a mild 6.5% ABV. A very refreshing beverage and one that paired perfectly with my Halo Infinity conquests of the past weekend.

Much like other favorite breweries of mine like 1840 Brewing Company, Eagle Park Brewing and Untitled Art, most of the releases from Young Blood are one-offs, so be sure to pick this one up before it’s gone. I found it at my local Woodman’s liquor store, and the brewery has pretty decent distribution throughout much of the state.

An updated look at the MVP race

I know there are going to be people in the comments who are like “I DON’T CARE ABOUT MVP I ONLY CARE ABOUT SUPER BOWL” but, like, deal with it.

Right now, the MVP race would pretty much have to be considered a two-horse race between Aaron Rodgers and Jonathan Taylor of the Colts. Kind of a good race for Wisconsin-based fans who loved watching Taylor with the Badgers.

Rodgers probably has the upper hand because it’s basically a quarterbacks-only award at this point. But Taylor still has a legitimate shot if the Colts win out, especially despite the fact that Carson Wentz is now on the COVID list for the next bunch of days.

There’s still an outside shot that Tom Brady could worm his way back into the picture if Rodgers falters and Brady goes off the last two weeks of the season, but getting shut out by the Saints and losing to Taysom Hill will take a lot of the shine off of that resume.

This means despite all the talk on Pat McAfee weeks back about how “the media” would never give Rodgers another MVP after his COVID-related idiocy, Rodgers is still the betting favorite for the award and will likely be walking away with his fourth league MVP.

Not bad for a guy with a “cancel culture mob” coming after him.

Aaron Rodgers not ruling anything out for his future

Speaking of Rodgers:

As you’ve no doubt heard by now, Rodgers didn’t rule out anything for his future during his media availability on Wednesday, including the possibility that he could retire after the season.

Rodgers spoke at length about how much he’s enjoyed himself this season and how much he enjoys being a part of the team. He praised everyone from his teammates and coaches to GM Brian Gutekunst. These are all consistent with things Rodgers has been saying throughout much of the season.

Nothing Rodgers has said during the regular season this year sounds like a man who wants to play for another team after this year. However, Rodgers said that all options are on table: playing in Green Bay, playing elsewhere or retiring.

He assured those listening that whatever happens, it will be decided quickly after the season is over. He doesn’t want to draw anything out.

At this point, it would sure seem as though the fences have been mended between Rodgers and the organization. It’s a credit to Gutekunst in particular for managing to make that happen, and taking the necessary steps to make Rodgers feel appreciated throughout this season so fra.

But I also would not at all be surprised to see Rodgers retire. We already know that it crossed his mind this offseason, and that he is very secure with his place in NFL and Packers history. He’s mentioned being excited to move into the next stage of his life, potentially starting a family and taking on other interests outside of the scope of football.

However, Rodgers is also still playing MVP caliber football, and has mentioned many times in the past about how he wants to continue playing so long as he feels he can do so as a high level.

If the Packers win the Super Bowl, it wouldn’t stun me to see Rodgers walk away comfortably from the game. But more than ever, it sure seems to be that he’s going to be back in a Packers uniform next season.

Whatever happens is going to do a lot to inform the other difficult decisions the Packers are going to have to make with their roster in the offseason.

But we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Around the NFC North

Here we go once again around the NFC North leading into week 17.

-The CHICAGO BEARS are 3-2 in games when Justin Fields does not start, and 2-8 in games when he does. That’s saying quite a bit right there. Fields may well have a strong future ahead of him, but he clearly was not ready to be “the guy” this year, and the incompetence of Matt Nagy may have only hindered his development further. Nick Foles did what Nick Foles does and pulled a win out of his ass coming off the bench. Maybe two more victories will get the Bears seriously thinking about keeping Nagy around. One can hope…

-The DETROIT LIONS just couldn’t pull it out against the Falcons, who have quietly climbed back into the edge of the playoff hunt. The Lions have an absurd number of needs to address this offseason and it’s going to take some time for them to truly contend for anything, but at the very least it looks like Dan Campbell has the team playing hard week after week, and some might say over the ability level of its roster.

-The MINNESOTA VIKINGS desperately needed a victory in week 16 and couldn’t pull it off, and now could face elimination when they take on the Packers on Sunday evening. They’re going to pull out all the stops to stay competitive in this one, and with Dalvin Cook back they’re going to give themselves a fighting chance. But it’s looking very much like the end of the Mike Zimmer era in Minnesota. The only other questions are what other types of changes might occur.

The defensive trajectory is concerning

I won’t lie, I’m starting to get a little nervous about the trajectory of the Packers’ defense.

Yes, they won the game. Yes, they held the Browns to 22 points. Yes, they had four interceptions (mostly gifted by bad quarterback play). Yes, they’re taking the ball away with regularity this season, and yes they looked pretty good for a pretty extended stretch.

But something with this unit has seemed “off” since the bye. They made the Bears look competent. They got cooked by a backup quarterback and a very depleted squad with few receiving weapons against Baltimore. And they got absolutely gashed in the running game against Cleveland.

It’s not time to hit the panic button, not even close. But for as well as this defense had been playing for some time, suddenly we’re starting to see some old habits from defenses of years past, and even from earlier this season while the team was adjusting to Joe Barry’s defense.

The run defense is especially concerning considering some of the competition the Packers could run into in the playoffs, and considering how they’ve been eliminated from the playoffs the last couple years.

This is a unit that is absolutely not playing its best ball heading into the final couple games of the season. Yes, there have been crucial injuries, but this team had been overcoming them to this point.

Advanced metrics have not liked the Packers’ defense all year long, even when it was playing well based on standard metrics. We may be starting to see why.

Or, it could just be a blip and the Packers could come out and smother the Vikings on Sunday.

My book recommendations for the end of the year

Every year I set a pretty aggressive reading goal at the beginning of the year. I’m typically able to achieve it, but my reading goes in spurts as the busy-ness of my life ebbs and flows.

I read a pretty broad variety of stuff, including various genres of both fiction and nonfiction. Of what I read this year, here are my 10 favorites. Strongly consider looking into them and adding them to your shelves when you can.

Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi

Circe by Madeline Miller

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith

The Nix by Nathan Hill

Civilized to Death: What Was Lost on the Way to Modernity by Christopher Ryan

The Institute by Stephen King

The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett

Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane

The Shadows by Alex North

An American Marriage by Tayari Jones

The prediction

I won’t lie, this game makes me nervous. The Vikings are going to be desperate, and the Packers haven’t done particularly great against desperate teams the last couple weeks. The Vikings are also on a two-game winning streak against the Packers and are getting Dalvin Cook back, and the Packers are incapable of covering Justin Jefferson.

The weather is going to be a key factor here, though, as is the fact that Kirk Cousins can’t win a big game to save his life.

I think it’s going to be close and stressful, but the Packers pick up a victory and potentially eliminate the Vikings and gani the 1 seed.

Packers 27, Vikings 24

No offense Tim, but Rodgers winning a 4th MVP matters very little to me at this point in his career. As great as it is to have ANY Packers player win an award, I'd much rather have another Lombardi Trophy in the Trophy case at 1265 Lombardi Ave, ESPECIALLY after this particular season.

I never realized the Packers record in super cold games was so poor. BUT I do have a ton of confidence in the Packers getting it right this weekend. It's Sunday Night Football, primetime, against a team with winning record. Kirk Cousins ISN'T doing it again, not in those conditions, and not at Lambeau. The Packers are the ONLY undefeated team at home this year, and they have EVERYTHING to play for including keeping that undefeated streak going. At the end of Sunday nights game, it will be Dillon, Jones, and the Packers running game everybody is talking about. NOT Dalvin Cook.

EDIT...Where I mentioned it's not happening against a team with a winning record, I meant it's not happening for Kirk Cousins because of his dismal record IN primetime against teams with winning records.

This team is built for the cold in a way that most Packer teams of the last 30 years have not been. This is a game where Dillon v Cook could be the deciding match up, especially if we can’t limit Cook and collapse Cousin’s pocket.

It’s not supposed to be windy, the turf has heating, so it’s not likely as run heavy as in might have been, but that ball gets hard and slick fast. It doesn’t travel well for kickers and punters either. That’s going to put a potential premium on STs, which is concerning. Crosby is likely kicking off short and we do not know who will be punting at present. STs could be a big factor.

Sunday night it's supposed to be around 4 degrees with winds WNW at 10 to 15 MPH per The Weather Channel.

LOL...I know that isn't THAT cold for someone who lives in Green Bay. Personally I haven't been in weather colder than about 38 degrees in 37 years. BUT the Vikings are a DOME team and I think that matters no matter what state that dome might be in.

As cold as that will be for the Packers, it will be that much colder for a dome team and a RB from Florida St. IMO. I think you're right, I think this will be Dillon vs Cook but I also think Aaron Jones will play a huge role too. This could almost be a game in reverse from most weeks where normally it's mostly Jones and then Dillon to close it out. Hell, it might be a HUGE does of Dillon to wear that purple ass out, and then hit them with some Aaron Jones and leave them grasping at air.

It gets forgotten that cold has the effect of making impact more wearing. Dillon early and often gets things started. Try and keep Cook off the field and our D rested. Time of possession could be particularly significant on Sunday.

Compared to this time last year the field is in excellent shape. Still, even with the heating system Lambeu will be pretty slick.

THe Purple packed it in last week. They were at home in their Shipwreck of a stadium and folded. The Pack just needs to open it up and give the Fans a show. Grind them into the dirt for 60 minutes. WCO all night long.
Hit the RB, hit the FB, hit the WR, hit the TE, run a TWO BACK PRO SET, counter the pursuit of Zimmer's D. The key player will be whether Harrison Smith suits up or not. No time for anything Conservative--Dominate!

Totally agree NP, despite it being a Sunday night game. It should be the Packers night with all that this game means. Perhaps this will be a game where they come out fast and on fire and play that way for all 4 quarters. I have marked the date for over a month and I hope the team did as well. No nail biters.

This game will be an accurate in-season portent of what the Packers are or aren't capable of in the tournament.

They'll be facing a competent quarterback, a top-echelon running back, a WR no one can cover and a defense that always plays them tough on a team which knows if they lose, their season ends along with it. Add in the cold, Covid impacting the roster, the back up OL, along with the Packers recent history in those conditions and the height of the hurdle rises.

I'm not confident of a positive outcome for the Packers. The stakes aren't even. The Packers may want to lock up home field, but I foresee the Vikings playing harder for their playoff lives than the Packers for their playoff seeding.

Hoping to be proven wrong, but with very guarded optimism.

Well said. I would like to see our team 'accelerating' into the playoffs. I want the Packers to run all over the Vikings on Sunday. Sprinkle in some air strikes just to keep everybody honest. Looking for a solid game plan from Lafleur and company.

Every team starting with the Ravens have been playing for their playoff lives. We have been seeing playoff football for the past month or so, and with the Packers being a top seed in the league the intensity has been way up for every game. This game is no different, being a Black and Blue division game the level will be higher. You can sure like the Ravens and Browns before them, the Vikings will empty their playbook and throw what unscripted looks they have been keeping hidden. Zimmer always has a surprise or two for Lafleur. This game is their season.

Another great read Tim, thanks!

MLF seems to have the offense to succeed in cold weather games, let's see if he can deploy it to its' advantages. That seems to be the biggest challenge.

I always like to see Packers get league-wide accolades, if Rodgers wins MVP, great! If he doesn't, great! With all options on the table and the GBP salary cap situation. it sure looks as if the smart money will be on... 1 - Rodgers gets traded, especially if no MVP and no SB. 1 - Rodgers re-signs with the GBP, the "other dominoes" would be plentiful and painful. 3 - Rodgers retires, definitely a very dark horse. He loves the attention too much and he can still play at a high level until he shows he can't. That aint today.

Around the NFC North
duh bares - just win baby! I want hope in Chi-town. I want Nagy and Pace back with long term extensions.
vi-queens - these guys always punch above their weight vs the GBP. I hope they get caught on the chin early at Lambeau.
LOLions - kneecap update - 2 bites! 11 deep throats 1 snaggletooth smootch

Happy New Year to all!

Wow, 6-9 in the 15 coldest games played at Lambeau Field. That is an eye-opener. And I bet they were favored in most of those games, if not all of them. I was at the playoff loss to the Giants in 2008. I remember when Eli Manning came out before the game, someone commented, "He looks cold." Well, it turned out that our guys were cold too. And we lost. I don't like this matchup against the Vikings because the running game will be important, and I don't see any reason to believe that the Packers will stop Dalvin Cook. He might gain 200 yards.

I agree. A noon kickoff would've been ideal FOR THE FANS. You know, the folks who are supposed to matter (ha ha). Sunday is supposed to be sunny, so even 5-10 Deg F would've been bearable - even comfortable, with the right layers - within the stadium, as long as you're in the sun.

When is it time to panic? After a playoff loss? Do we have to get beaten badly?

I certainly hope MLF lights a fire under his team in at least a half panic way to show up and play a full 60 min.
Like he always says - it starts with him. Maybe he needs to come out of that 'calm mister nice guy' routine and say "don't believe that 12-3 record. We are lucky with that. But luck isn't going win a SB. Etc."

The MVP Matters. But: Rodgers would put the team first and it's goals. And thats just what the Rodgers mob don't understand. They don't Get It. They don't see the Losing in rebuilding. They don't see what happens to a team in professional sports, when their star players leave. They only see the Money now. I'd pay to see a great player. I won't pay for a Loser. And Nobody will!! I'm not assuming anything. Nobody will support a losing team. The NFL moves them to a new city now. But RODGERS needs to keep his intentions to himself. It hurt #4. And it will only hurt his Legacy.

Any fan with any intelligence of course sees "the Losing in rebuilding" (sic). And of course they see what happens when star players leave. Don't make generalizations that don't apply to anyone you don't know.

And what's this talk about " I'd pay to see a great player. I won't pay for a Loser. And Nobody will!! I'm not assuming anything. Nobody will support a losing team."? WTF? Lambeau sold out throughout the terrible 70s and 80s? Don't you even know Packers history? Why would you write something so... not true?

And NFL moving teams to a new city? Again, WTF? This doesn't happen - perhaps you're thinking that the Montreal Expos were in the NFL?

The retirement talk is him keeping all options on the table and keeping all weapons available. The ability to say "I will just retire" to a trade to--say--Cleveland, gives him more control over his destination if it comes down to a trade. I don't see him giving away a year at this point. It's possible he retires if they win it all...I just don't see it as likely. He's danced around the idea of starting a family when in the vaccination/immunization fiasco...that might be the unaccounted-for thing that would push him toward walking away--when will life trump the game?

I think if Rodgers does retire he'll try to return (to a new team, probably) in 2023.

I HIGHLY doubt that he retires, and I also doubt that we'd try to trade him to someplace he doesn't want to be (which of course removes Cleveland from the list, because, really, who actually CHOOSES to live in Cleveland?)

I have seen too many heartbreaking late season, cold weather loses to buy into the frozen tundra marketing. Packers have been a good regular season team, winning our fair share against the general NFL population but these are playoff games and the best teams are competing. I think that we have enough to win, if we have a good plan and use all our talents. To that end, I think that this will truly be a Matt Lafleur game. The coaching will need to address the disappearing run game, poor D-line play and any of the other weaknesses that have crept back into our team habits.

I like what Dan Campbell has done with the Detroit Lions. He has very little to work with and is getting the most out of them. He has Goff playing at a Matt Stafford level, despite not having very much talent on offense. They may be more dangerous than the Vikings in these last two games.

Campbell is a moron. He's Jim Schwarz reimagined.

The new GM is the difference here...he has some good starting pieces on the lines. He's not the idiot Quinn was. They get the Rams' 1st to go with their own. This will likely be a team with good talent in a couple years.

No doubt the new GM is making a difference but Dan Campbell has these guys playing hard even when they are out-gunned. I am not a fan of his GI Joe approach but that team has grit and fight.

The vikings just aren't used to playing in cold weather. It should be a natural advantage, for them, being in the NFC North, but NOOOOO! They had to build a stadium with a dome/roof on it, so their fans would be "comfortable" watching those home games. It's no wonder those fans have lost a certain connection with their team! When we speak of Packers' fans, there are no more true fans of the game who have a real connection to their team, especially at Lambeau Field! Braving the elements is a huge part of that connection between the players and the fans. Remember when the last Super Bowl was played at US Bank Stadium? People posting articles, in Minnesota, made a meme claiming that game was the coldest Super Bowl Ever! Yeah, it was played indoors, but that trip from the parking lot into the warm climate controlled confines of the Stapler was a bitch! Couple the cold weather with the game being in Prime Time one would think the Packers have the advantage here. Kark doesn't do too well in Prime Time, but considering this game is the vikings' second Super Bowl of the season, they'll be fired up to play us. Maybe next season we can take care of business in our division and sweep these wannabes off the field. GO PACK, GO!!!

A domed Lambeau would be sacrilege.

They practice outside at the Wilf Development site funded by the tax payers. If Ham is slowed down or still feeling ill, they may not have his lead draw Bam play for Cook. Gary has to get his head straight on Edge Containment, If Smith cannot get the message through to his Edge people in this Game, there may be No hope. Garvin has to Show up.

Chicago’s low for the date of the NFC championship game at Soldier Field back in 2011 was 4F. I don’t remember what it was at game time, but it seems like it was pretty cold.

With all the talk of Rodgers winning a 4th MVP, I looked back on the 6 MVP's he and Favre have won. Favre won 3 ('95,'96,'97) and Rodgers 3 ('11,'14,'20). The Packers regular season record for those 6 seasons is 77-19, including an all-time best of 15-1 in 2011.

How did all that regular season success play out in the offseason?

Favre's teams were 2-1 in NFCCGs, played in 2 Super Bowls, winning one/losing one during his 3 MVP years.
Rodger's teams have lost 1 Divisional game and lost 2 NFCCGs, and never advanced to the Super Bowl during his 3 MVP years.

So, the 6 MVP years between Favre and Rodgers has resulted in one championship. Not sure what, if anything, that means. Probably not much, as it's the ultimate team game. Just thought it was an interesting little tidbit of trivia as Rodgers appears to be on the cusp of a 4th MVP.

Damn, 13, I was so let down when you didn't end with an epiphany. Sure, it's interesting, but couldn't you total the MVP years 95+96+97 = 288 and 11+14+20 = 45, then divide by the number of the Super Bowl victory (conversion from Roman numerals required) to arrive at a number that would indicate Rodgers is in an enemy year which would not bode well for a Minnesota Football Team win on 01/02/2022 (year of the Tiger)? Could factor in barometric pressure, too, I suppose.

I loathe the Minnesota Football Team. It's an irrational and deeply felt hatred. I'm not looking forward to this game, but I have a feeling the Packers will bring their best on both sides of the ball. Plus, Dalvin Cook's a Leo and his moon is in retrograde so it's unlikely he'll play well after 8 pm.

I think you have me confused with the guy who always posts on here about enemy years and such. Not me, as I have no interest in that nonsense.

Or your post was an attempt at humor? Hard to tell, to be honest.

13TIMESCHAMPS,

I'm hoping your have to change your moniker to "14TIMESCHAMPS" after this season.

Also, you are spot on with football being the ultimate team game.

Good post.

The game just got more interesting. Bojorquez, out with Covid. Do we just go for it on all 4th downs?

They'll sign a punter to the PS and activate him if Bojo can't play.

"...and now could face elimination when they take on the Packers on Sunday evening. "

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Minnesota eliminated if both San Fran and Philly win on Sunday? San Fran gets in based on head-to-head and Philly gets in based on conference record? So the Vikings could be playing for nothing but pride at that point...and it's a tough call for pride to keep you warm when the wind chills are below zero.

speaking of defense, what was the deal with Kingsley Keke being a healthy scratch? I know he's on the Covid list now, but is he having problems with the program?

Depends on the person. Loss of weight is a big issue for linemen (both OL and DL) When the Packers played at SF in the NFCC both Turner and Buluga? showed noticeable weight loss. I've always suspected that the Packers did not have a team wide case of flu, but the first wave of Covid, giving the massive loss of body weight and how sluggish both lines were that game. (It was shocking how far both the Smiths were off their game)

All that LaFleur said was that Keke had a personal matter. No idea what that means.

As a youngster, I used to love going to Packer games with my dad and that included those when the temperatures hovered around zero. I learned one thing early on...DO NOT lick your lips thinking that will warm them up.

Great article Tim.
If it is true that a newspaper in the Twin Cities authored an article listing the Vikings greatest moments, and Anthony Barr’s tackle injuring ARod was on the list? Then they are truly the most pathetic, plastic banana, goat-smelling, bunch of circus monkeys ever.
Hammer these jokers—please!!!

Thank you for conclusively proving a point: it's cold on both sides of the field. Another point: the Vikings players all live in the Twin Cities, four hours due west of Green Bay. Having lived there their winters are worse than ours because the wind rarely stops blowing. No 'advantage' there.

I'm a Packers fan to the core but they really should think about putting some sort of dome on Lambeau. The Brewers have a retractable roof that makes April baseball tolerable for fans and players. When you're paying the prices you do these days for tickets you'd like to have the football at the highest level possible, not a bunch of players hoping to survive the next three hours or getting frostbitten.

The silly macho men who act out about the cold are really parodies on themselves. It's cold, it lowers the quality of play, and is of no advantage for Green Bay.
