All of the jokes about the Eagles wearing black on Sunday Night Football against the Packers because it would be a funeral weren't jokes, but premonitions. The Packers, finally with a little offensive fortitude, apparently traded any semblance of a defense for the effort as the Eagles ran for approximately 2,576,078,054 yards as Joe Barry's group looked hapless yet again. Aaron Rodgers, leaving with a rib injury reminiscent of Brett Favre's injury in 2007 at Dallas, enabled Jordan Love to enter the game and look... very good. VERY GOOD. It'll be interesting to see what the team does in regards to Rodgers and his injury status with the team essentially out of playoff contention.

I must say it one more time -- Jordan Love.

First Quarter

Starting with the ball, the Eagles quickly showed why they're one of the best rush teams in the league. Quarterback Jalen Hurts opened the effort with a 23-yard run, followed by two Miles Sanders carries and suddenly Philly was at the Packers 38. After two run tops, Hurts got loose on a 3rd down and rushed down to the Packers' 7. A handoff to running back Kenneth Gainwell found the end zone and before you could crack a beer it was 7-0 Eagles.

On the Packers first go starting from their own 9, Rodgers went incomplete to Watson followed by a short run to Jones. Faced with a 3rd-and-long out of the gate, Rodgers impressively evaded a sack, but threw a very wobbly pass that was batted up and intercepted by the Eagles. A truly horrific start for the Packers.

Philly, picking up where they left off, used the legs of Jalen Hurts once again down to the Packers' 15. The next play was Sanders again, this time for a touchdown to make it 13-0 Philadelphia. A missed PAT kept it that way.

Sticking with the run game on the next try for the Packers, Aaron Jones took a carry for 10 yards and a first. Next, he snagged a screen pass for 30 and quickly the Packers were in the red zone. AJ Dillon took an inside zone run to the house to cut it to 13-7 Eagles. A crucial drive for Green Bay.

Philly's next possession brought up a quick 3rd-and-1. Trying to sneak, Jalen Hurts fell just inches short. The Eagles elected to go for it, this time lining up in a very heavy package, and snuck it again, stopped short. Replay would show Hurts bobbling the snap, which ended up in the hands of Sanders who was unable to gain the first. A monumental, game-shifting stop by the Packers defense.

Facing a 3rd and 8, Rodgers found Jones on a screen pass, but only gained 3 to bring up 4th and 5. Electing to pass on a field goal attempt, Rodgers connected with Christian Watson over the middle, absorbing a big hit from CJ Gardner-Johnson that knocked the safety from the game. On first down, Rodgers hit a crossing Randall Cobb in the end zone and the Packers were miraculously in front 14-13.

The Eagles, now facing a single-high safety, went to the passing game. First, a 23-yarder to AJ Brown got the Eagles to near midfield. Facing 3rd-and-short, Jalen Hurts popped another huge run down to the Packers' 5 to put the QB over 100 rushing yards in the first quarter alone.

Second Quarter

With Philly just outside the end zone, they went right back to Sanders to punch in the touchdown putting the Eagles back on top 20-14. Green Bay, after another seemingly impressive drive, was right back on the doorstep when Aaron Rodgers misread the coverage and went to Tyler Davis, only to be intercepted by the Eagles' rookie safety Reed Blankenship.

Hurts and the Philly offense picked up right where they left off, with plays to DeVonta Smith and Hurts in the run game. But facing a third down, Hurts hit AJ Brown on a screen pass short of the goal line. Safety Rudy Ford came in to strip Brown, whose fumble was recovered by Quay Walker, who returned it to the Eagles 13. Hurts saved a touchdown, but the Packers were close again.

Aaron Jones' ensuing touchdown was brought back by an Elgton Jenkins hold, but on a scramble drill, Rodgers was able to find Jones in the end zone to tie it up at 20. However, a missed Mason Crosby kick kept the score even at 20.

With 2:16 to go until half, the Eagles started up at their own 30. Facing a 3rd-and-6, Hurts hit Brown for a first down inside Packers territory.  Jarran Reed and Preston Smith combined for a big sack of Hurts, but the Eagles ultimately would score just before halftime on an underthrown pass from Hurts to receiver Quez Walker to put Philly in the lead at halftime. A tough effort from Rasul Douglas on the touchdown.

Third Quarter

Keisean Nixon popped the opening kickoff to near midfield, the Pack's longest of the year. But faced with an early 3rd-and-8, Rodgers was sacked leaving the Packers unable to take advantage of the field position. Punting it back, the Eagles kept to the ground, with huge runs by Miles Sanders, down to the Green Bay 29. More runs would get Philly inside the 20, and ultimately AJ Brown would haul in a touchdown to make it 34-20 Eagles.

On Green Bay's next possession, Rodgers would hit Watson over the middle, then two big AJ Dillon touches got the Packers to the 13. It was shown at this time that Rodgers took a shot to the ribs in the second quarter, and was wincing in pain, having difficulty throwing. After a Yosh Nijman false start on a 4th and short, Mason Crosby would knock in a field goal from 29 yards to make it 34-23.

During the commercial, Rodgers went to the locker room, presumably for his rib injury leaving Jordan Love to take over the offense.

Fourth Quarter

The quarter opened with more Philly running game, this time with a Kenneth Gainwell first down. Facing 3rd and 7 at the Green Bay 41, Gainwell picked up 5 bringing up another 4th and short. Hurts would convert the first down, then a huge Boston Scott run put the Eagles over 300 rush yards for the game, and in scoring position once more. The Packers got the stop, though, and a Josh Elliott field goal put the Eagles back up two touchdowns, 37-23.

Now with Love at the helm, the Packers offense faced an early 3rd down. Off play action, Love hit Christian Watson over the middle and hoo boy the burners go on, with Watson turning the corner all the way for a touchdown to cut the lead to 37-30.

Philly wouldn't be stopped, though, on their next possession with the run game proving a fit for the Packers defense. Unable to tackle the Eagles ball-carriers much Sunday night, the Packers defense made a stop in their own territory to force an Elliott field goal attempt of 54 yards. Elliott, who had struggled from long range this season, flipped the trend and nailed the kick to put the Eagles up by double digits just outside the two-minute warning.

Nixon, having one of his best games of the year as a kick returner, took the ball out near midfield. A huge game by #25. Love would hit passes to Watson then Lazard, and another to Robert Tonyan. But on third down, he nearly hit Randall Cobb for a touchdown, but it fell incomplete forcing a Crosby field goal.

Down 40-33, Crosby's onside attempt was recovered by the Eagles, and the comeback bid would fall short.

What Went Right

Well, finally the offense. When Rodgers was in the game and wasn't dealing with injured ribs, he was throwing maybe his best game of the year. Coupled with AJ Dillon, the Packers finally looked like a coherent offense.

What Went Wrong

LOL Joe Barry. Obviously. The Packers had zero answer for Philly's run game, and Joe Barry and this defense rarely have answers for anyone. Just a total fart in the wind yet again from this pitiful defense

Offensive MVP

AJ Dillon. The Quadfather finally looked like the stud running back we know he is. He was tough, assertive, and the tough tackle this offense needed tonight. 

Defensive MVP

Rudy Ford. I probably shouldn't list anyone, but his strip of AJ Brown was pivotal in keeping it close. Game after game, 20 makes his value more and more obvious.
