G Lane Taylor 'good to go' for training camp after ankle injury

-- For what it's worth, there should be a little more solidarity along the Green Bay Packers' offensive line once training camp starts later this week.

Starting left guard Lane Taylor should be ready to participate on Thursday for the team's first training camp practice of the year after sitting out the entire offseason program with an ankle injury.

"I'm good, man," Taylor told Packers.com. "I'm good to go."

Scheduled to report on Wednesday, players arrived at St. Norbert College on Tuesday ready to check into their dorms.

Taylor represents one of the three positions along the Packers' offensive line that are already locked down with capable -- and familiar -- starters.

The entire left side of the line -- anchored by David Bakhtiari at left tackle -- along with Corey Linsley at center provides a solid foundation for quarterback Aaron Rodgers' blindside.

To his right, however, things get kind of foreign.

Justin McCray is expected to be the presumed starter at right guard and while Bryan Bulaga would typically handle the right tackle duties, either Jason Spriggs, Kyle Murphy or newly-acquired Byron Bell will fill in for however long Bulaga's recovery lasts.

Taylor also replaced Bakhtiari last season at left tackle in September, right on the fringes of a three-year, $16.5 contract extension he signed with the Packers prior to the start of the season -- his second new deal in the last 18 months at the time.

En route to playing multiple positions, Taylor was given the responsibility of helping protect, not only Rodgers but Brett Hundley for a majority of the season as well.

"It's fun to get the year started again. A lot of anticipation, obviously want to do better than we did last year," Taylor said. "It'll be good to get back with our teammates, get working and get rolling."

Once an undrafted guard out of Oklahoma State, Taylor has molded himself into a consistent staple of the Packers' offensive line. Now entering his sixth season and his sixth training camp, Taylor is considered -- by NFL standards -- as a veteran.

Since 2016 when he replaced Josh Sitton, the previous occupier of the left guard position, Taylor's 31 starts are the most of any Packers offensive lineman.

"[Training camp] gets easier, the older you get. You know how it goes, you know the drill, you know what it's going to be like and you prepare for that."

Players like Lane Taylor win titles for teams. Not blue chip players, but above average, and for a steal of a deal under the cap.

I call players like Taylor "roster glue." They're what makes the puzzle pieces all fit! ;)

Kudos to the o-line coach and to the scouts who find these gems to coach up. Taylor is but one example. He has held up pretty well too.

Love what Taylor brings to the line. Key to the line and basically the whole team is injuries. I hold my breath every day during training camp. Actually all year. All players will get banged up, but the devastating ones we need to avoid. I’m saying things we all know and I’m sure I’m not the only one worried about who could go down. Exciting time of year and get so pumped up. Go Pack.
