The former Packers linebacker took to X on Sunday morning with plenty of thoughts about his time in Green Bay.

De'Vondre Campbell had some things to say this morning.

I wonder why MLF couldn't see what everyone, even private meetings from his players couldn't see? Well, he's gone now so can't cry about spilled milk so to speak. What gets me is the front office is still treating players like crap! Why not come to Campbell and ask for a pay cut instead of releasing him? Maybe things will get better when they get a new President, instead of worrying about building a community try focusing on his employees a little more!

It’s a game of youth and replacement. The players know that. Doesn’t matter if they fall in love with where they are or not. Organizations need to grow. It’s a sad fact, for fans as well as players

Yep. And De'vondre is 30, was expensive, and cheaper younger players will continue to replace older vets under the salary cap system. I loved the old days when a player was with your team for his entire career. It wasn't fair for the players, but was better for the fans.

Looks to me like DC is all class, not a bad word to say about the Packers organization or their fans. He's simply pointing out what we all know, Joe Barry wasn't putting players in the best position to make plays. Feel sorry for position coaches under JB who had to do what he wanted at the expense of their careers. Shame that DC didn't have a chance to play under Hafley, may well have returned to 2021 form, or better. Hoping his career is long and successful (except when playing against the Packers). Go Pack go! :)

I caution you that we don't know what Hafley is now. We can only hope MLF finally made the right call, but his history at hiring is pretty awful. Everyone here is thinking the same thing: how the hell was MLF so blind to what everyone else could clearly see?

Hearing this level of dysfunction directly from a player who is now on the outside is alarming.

Well, DeVondre, I liked when Packers signed you, I also liked your first season with Packers. And, do not worry, we knew and knows that main culprit was Joe Barry.

Here, on this site, or call it how you want to call, many, much more football educated fans were bitching about Joe Barry (me too, of course). So we knew already that it was not on the players, but on the DC. I understand your attitude and your conflict - what to play - the play which was called, or the right play. But we also understand that whatever you chosed it happen to be wrong, because you were not the one who was directing and ordering others on the D what to play. Not your mistake, but ineptitude of DC.

He may have some valid points, but talent can overcome coaching. His performance was suffering and I found myself (like many other Packer fans) criticizing his play. Let’s see how he performs in San Fran—I think/hope 9’r fans will be disappointed.
Go Packers!!!

The ILB is the heart of the Defense.
He tried to lead.
Injuries slowed him down.
Don't judge Campbell now.
Don't judge Douglass.
Don't judge Jones.
Don't judge Bahk.
Don't judge MLF.
MLF fired his DC
These guys were Forced out..
From one excuse to another.
Starting over- Pretty long list!

Reposting here again, so you can see it, again, and hopefully come to an epiphany and some semblance of clarity:

The real truth about why Ted Thompson's draft picks are disappearing from the Packers roster?

TED THOMPSON'S LAST DRAFT WAS OVER SEVEN YEARS AGO.

7 years is more than twice the average NFL career length of 3.3 years
>That's about a rookie contract and gone from the league on average

First round draft picks have an average NFL Career length of 7.1 years
>That's roughly 2 contracts- 4 or 5 years on rookie deal, 2 or 3 on second, then gone

Pro Bowl players average a career length of 11.7 years.
>About 3-4 contracts, then gone (this is Kenny Clark territory.)

The average age of retirement for an NFL player is 27.6 years old
> Average age of an NFL rookie is between 23 and 24 years old

This really shouldn't have to be explained to anyone who follows football.
The oldest joke in the book is NFL stands for "Not For Long" for good reason.

To believe that Gutekunst is vindictively or self-servingly removing Ted Thompson's players from the roster is absolutely ridiculous. Ted has not had a draft since 2016/2017. Do the math. NFL Rosters are not static. Players come and go.

Campbell and Douglass weren't TT players.
They were players that were leaders.
And this wasn't about dumping players or picks.
It was about the best Roster to win.
So go hail your Cesar to some other puppet.

You're right, stockholder, he tried to lead. He went to the coach-- undoubtedly after talking in meetings, to his position coach, and to the def coordinator. All good. It's what veteran leaders should do. We can also assume he conducted himself professionally; we know he didn't leak 'discontent in the locker room' to a reporter.

Still, I find myself a little... unsure about him taking this public, even now. Of course he can say whatever he wants, but why say it at all?

Was he really being blamed for the inconsistent defensive performance? We all read the "his performance has dropped off" articles, but it seems to me that everybody looked at Berry as the cause. Well, it seems D'vondre took it personally anyway, and it still bothers him enough to vent it now.

OK. Frankly, if this is the biggest 'scandal' to come out of GB, I'm good with it.

Did I miss something or did the Packers make it to the second round of the playoffs?

Campbell was hurt a good portion of last year.

MLF took the correct action and unloaded Barry and appears to have hired a coordinator more in tune with defensing the RPO so popular in the NFL. MLF made a deep error by keeping Barry one more year. It was clear the defense was under-performing yet more of the same came in 2023. I'm not certain it would have made a difference in the Packers overall outcome, as the chief reason the team went to the playoffs was the play of Jordan Love and the offense.

The theme you have to see, maybe Campbell isn't seeing it, beginning with Aaron Rodgers and moving to Aaron Jones and Campbell is older, and/or injured, more costly players are being replaced by younger players. You can agree or disagree with the trend but that is the reality. The Packers will have to pull a rabbit out of the hat the rest of the off season to land one or two potential starters at linebacker.

I wish Campbell the best. When he was on the field he was a tough competitor.

I like Campbell - many of us do.
I know there was a problem with Barry - we've all known.
But to escalate the talk like this in public is questionable. He is an active player, a part of very good team, with no Barry there. First thing - take care of your performance because if it doesn't match your declarations you will look like a fool. Let your game speak for itself. People are not dumb, we have our suspicions and you can prove us right only on the field.

Campbell's comments are just further conformation of what Packer fans have known for a couple of years - Joe Barry was in over his head as a defensive coordinator. The only unanswered question at this stage is why Lafleur kept him for a third year.

I hope Campbell's frankness doesn't hurt his career. He would probably have been better served by keeping much of this to himself for as long as he remains in the league, but he chose to share. I wish him well.

All of this does provide hope that Hafley can provide a disproportionate boost to the defense just by running better schemes and putting players in position to succeed - something Joe Barry failed at.

The bigger question is why Barry was hired in the first place, much less kept for the 3rd year.

There is that.....

LaFleur proved to be a very good offensive coach this year, but his selection of assistant coaches is still in question. I really hope Hafley works out.

Pretty sure he said the exact opposite in 2021 and got paid. Campbell you didn’t rise to the occasion own up to it and move on.

If MLF was made aware that Barry was the issue then why didn’t the Packers hold on to Campbell maybe rework his deal , now are they expecting a rookie LB to come in and master the defense, there is maybe 3 inside guys in the draft that could start right away that means the Packers would have to use pick 1 for a LB.

Because Campbell is still old, expensive, and often injured the last 2 years. Joe Barry's ineptitude doesnt change any of that.

In all fairness to this clown, its not like he could come out and say what we all knew, Joe Barry was a mindless moron who didnt understand a dam thing about defense. He's play a prevent if the other team was backed up on their two yard line.
I'm sure Campbell is happy as hell to be out of dodge and on a contender. I hope Frisco hires JB as their new defensive coach, now that there would be puny as hell.
