Cory's Corner: The NFL is hypocritical with gambling

When was the last time arm wrestling made its way to the main stream?

If you said the 1987 film “Over the Top”, you win.

But the NFL is having a problem with an arm wrestling tournament at the MGM Hotel and Casino over the weekend.

Why? Oh, because it violates the league’s gambling policy. That’s interesting, because if you remember, the NFL just agreed to send one of its teams to Las Vegas. And now the league is going to flex its muscles over an arm wrestling tournament that is actually partnered with a National Football League Player’s Association charity, the Giving Back Fund.

So what is the NFL doing? Does it really still expect to have a “gambling policy” when the Raiders invade Vegas?

Obviously the biggest fear is that games will be fixed and the credibility of the game will be affected. However, with so many ways to gamble on your phone nowadays, you really don’t need to move to Vegas to exacerbate fears of gambling.

The NFL has to stop being so hypocritical. MGM actually complied with the gambling rules by turning off the gambling machines that were near the tournament. And let’s not forget that the money was being raised for charity.

The real reason the NFL is upset is because it isn’t making money off of it. This is an event that is independent of the NFL but uses NFL players. So the ‘Shield’ is upset that it cannot find a way to carve out some money of its own as well.

The day the NFL relaxes its gambling policy is the day it thinks up a way to make money off gambling. The NFL’s soul is only wallet deep as we’ve seen from the Thursday games and unnecessary preseason schedule.

But to come back and be upset about a charity event based on a policy about gambling is pretty insincere.

Yep. The NFL is hypocritical. And, in other news, water is wet. The owners are the hypocrites. Goodell is just their bag-man.

NFL football requires that fans believe the game is competitive and nothing is ever fixed ahead of time. Players have been banned for associations with bookmakers in the past so I see nothing hypocritical here. Not having NFL players "hang out" with casino owners and bookmakers who create the betting lines on their games seems a good idea to me.

With an NFL team moving to Las Vegas it will be interesting to see what rules are set forward for players and their proximity to bookmakers and casino owners.

You don't villify gambling to such an extent as the NFL does then move one of your franchises to the gambling mecca of the world.

Total Bovine Excrament!

Lets not get into the money creamed off the top of fantasy football, the last decade.

Not to worry; NFL football contests and outcomes have as much veracity as Professional wrestling and I have been watching both very closely since I was a kid.

The NFL is absolutely ridiculous. Smoke dope? Get suspended for three games. Punch your fiancé in the face on camera and knock her out cold? Get suspended for three games. And then do that stupid pink thing and pretend you care about women's issues. If I didn't love the Pack, I'd never watch in protest of this shit league.

When looking at who to keep, I think you have to keep Janis, he's really good on special teams. Our defense is going to be enough of a liability, any let down on special teams will only compound the problem. Not only do we need guys who can score touchdowns but also guys who can keep opponents from scoring. I think he's our best gunner. He's right in the returners face almost every time. That's gotta count for something in the overall scheme of things..
