Charges Reportedly Dropped Against DL Letroy Guion, Pays Fine

Guion is said to have paid a $5,000 fine to authorities in Florida.

Criminal charges against free agent defensive lineman Letroy Guion in Starke, Fla. have reportedly been dropped, according to Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette:

Guion reached a plea agreement of no contest with authorities in Starke, Fla., that included him paying a $5,000 fine and having his adjudication withheld, which means the charges were dismissed.

"He's got no conviction," said Robert Rush, Guion's attorney. "The case is done, closed, that's the end of it."

Guion was arrested on Feb. 3 for felony possession of marijuana and a firearm after a traffic stop. He played last season for the Packers but is currently a free agent after his contract expired.

Even though Guion will not be charged, he is still subject to the NFL's conduct policy, under which he could still be suspended by the league.

The potential of suspension would likely impact Guion's earnings potential in the next contract he signs, whether with the Packers or another team.

Guion's civil forfeiture case remains open regarding his possessions when arrested, including nearly $200,000, his vehicle and handgun. It's unlikely the outcome of Guion's civil case will have any impact on possible suspension.

I'd rather see a 2 or 3 year incentive based deal that could work up to a value of 3M - 3.5M per year with minimal or no guaranteed money.

I wonder how long it will take the league to make a decision on a suspension. Anyone know what the usual time frame is for something like this? I would guess his agent will try to expedite the process.

This also may motivate Raji to take the offer on the table from TT before it is taken off the table. I hope this is the case as I think Raji back at NT and fully healthy could be very good again. It'd be nice to have them both back with modest deals. It would really solidify what I think might be the thinnest part of the roster.

Guion has spent most of his offseason in green bay and has kept in touch with the packers. I keep hearing he will probably get 1year for the minimum as a prove it deal. Raji hasnt got much attention from other teams and i suspect he will sign another contract like last year. I would like to see them both back as i do not see better options to plug in right away.

His punishment could take until the preseason but i heard roger goodie2shoes has a new guy to dish out the wrath. It has been silent so far on the browns, patriots, and falcons and that was in season/playoffs.

This is Raji's 3rd straight year of trying to prove he's worthy of big money. At some point, reality must trump optimism. I'd cut the base salary in half.

I would not be opposed to incentives that could earn him back to that $4 mil number. But those incentives should be more than simply staying healthy enough to suit up on game day.

Yeah, i thought the same thing.

maybe do like a 2 million base salary, and he gets 1 million worth of bonuses based on how much he plays and another million if he makes the pro bowl. Something like that is what I was thinking for him.

I was skeptical about whether Guion would be treated fairly. Initial reports were suited to a mid to low level dealer when the facts were it was probably just possession--albeit a lot of possession. But I think justice was done, in the end. No civil forfeiture, no jail time and a fine.

Given his uncertain status with league discipline, one yr, vet minimum is all I would offer if I was the Packers.
