Castonzo Interviews With Packers At Senior Bowl

A scout for the Green Bay Packers met with first-round draft prospect and Boston College offensive lineman Anthony Castonzo while at the Senior Bowl.

Boston College left tackle Anthony Castonzo, one of the top offensive line prospects in this year's draft class, said he had a brief interview with a Green Bay Packers scout while at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

In a diary entry posted at CBSSports.com, Castonzo wrote:

After getting our room assignments, we were trying to head to dinner, but not before we had our first run-ins with a few scouts. Scouts from the Green Bay Packers and Houston Texans had me fill out questionnaires and partake in a quick, informal interview. It was good to get that started right away.

That the Packers interviewed Castonzo isn't unique. He will be interviewed by nearly every team in the NFL by the time the draft process is over.

However, the interest in Castonzo may take on slightly more meaning given that he's expected to be a late first-round prospect and the Packers have a draft choice late in the first round.

In a mock draft posted earlier today on Twitter, Chris Steuber of Scout.com actually has the Packers selecting Castonzo with the 31st overall pick. Of course, whether the Packers have the 31st or 32nd choice in the draft will be determined by the outcome of the Super Bowl.

Castonzo was a teammate of Packers defensive lineman B.J. Raji when the two played together during the 2007 and 2008 seasons.

Don't think Castonzo will make it all the way to the 31st or 32nd pick. He is regarded as the 2nd or 3rd best OT in this draft and there are quite a few teams that might want to take an OT in the 1st round.

A lot of people thought Bryan Bulaga was going to go a lot higher than he did this past draft too. There's no guarantees with the draft.

Absolutely, anything can happen in the draft. I just don't see him falling that far but it would be great.

We don't need 8 draft picks this year cause most wouldn't make the team. So i hope that we move up in the draft and get a few early picks, hopefully all studs and then move on to the pre season and concentrate on going back to back with superbowl wins.

It all depends on the CBA and after that is sorted out, how we handle things with the players we have. Do we re-sign Jenkins? Do we re-structure Hawk's contract?

As Brian said, it all depends on the draft which is a crapshoot. TT could trade down or up, depending on who's been selected thus far.

Aside from a few blips on the radar (Brohm, Brian and Harrell, Justin) he's been excellent in the draft.

Given the talent already on the team, offensive line still needs some more attention

Oline definately needs attention but do we need another tackle or should we get a big gun centre or guard?

Probably depends on where Bulaga is gonna end up. Lang as well. I'd really love to see him permanently entrenched in the line. But there's room on the line for a pick. Clifton said he wants to play on, but he won't be around forever. I mean, is there any indication on whether or not Bulaga stays at RT, or will he go to LT or LG?

Thats the question, how good are Lang and Bulaga and what position will they play?

How good is Colledge and will the Packers give him a contract? Teams last year where not knocking on his door, but all these players will have started on a Super bowl team this go around.

If Lang is your future Left Guard, then you do need another tackle.

Teams weren't knocking on the door of restricted free agents anywhere last year.

Bulaga is still slated for the left side when Clifton calls it quits I believe but that doesn't mean thats set in stone.

Marshall Newhouse is also capable of playing LT if they decide to keep BB on the right side.

OL still needs to be addressed with better talent and very possibly better coaching.

A dream draft would start by trading up for a tackle, then draft Moffit,Kendricks convert him to W R..Then find a center Olinebacker, kick returner.Trade Barnett and Flynn for draft picks.

I would anticipate that they'll draft an OL of some sort. Also, that College will be gone, replaced w/Lang or BB; with the other being the RT. Clifton will stay around another year.

I think that they've signed all the upcoming FA's that they will, the rest are gone.

The only reason more FAs haven't been resigned or extended is because of the lack of a new CBA ....... Crosby, B. Jackson, C. Peprah, Colledge, J. Jones, J. Kuhn, J. Jolly, C. Jenkins, A. Smith, K. Hall, Bigby & possibly AJ Hawk .....

As soon as a new CBA is ratified (summer - 2011?), at least some & maybe more will be resigned by GB ..... TT will sign his own before looking elsewhere .....

Hawk is not a FA, he is just due an enormous bonus. The Pack can allow him to be a FA by not paying it; extend his contract to supercede the bonus; or pay the man. I think he'll be re-negotiated and Barnett odd man out (TT invests in younger players).

Jenkins, God love him, won't be back. I've been amazed how he's stepped out of his brother Kris' shadow in the time that he's been in the league. This isn't about salary cap, its about franchise profitability. Neal and Wilson will need to step up, and have shown that capability. I'm not saying that they're as good as Jenkins, but they'll take his place. Pickett already makes good money; so does Raji, with more to come; the Pack have been paying alot of money to "core" players with big upside, they can't bring them all back.

As TT says, they always "go fishing", to see what's out there via trades, FA and so forth. Ted will take care of our own core players, but I have to think he'll look into other teams FA with the chance at getting a quality vet or up and coming player who may take less by signing with a TOTALLY STACKED GREEN BAY TEAM knowing they have a real shot at a ring for the next couple of years.

I am all for nabbing Castonzo if he falls to us. I emailed my buddy who went to BC and this is what he said about Castonzo: "Needs to add a little bulk and a mean streak. Extremely technically sound."

Wouldn't be surprised if Clifton came back for one more season, Lang got moved to LG to take over for Colledge, and Bulaga remains at RT. Then this guy Castonzo gets a year in the program to bulk up and he becomes your LT. I also see Dietrich-Smith getting a chance to compete for starting center. Dude is still only 24.

I see Newhouse as the perfect 6th man since he can play guard or tackle.

I think that the off-season could be interesting for lots of reasons. If the Packers win the Super Bowl does it change anyone's thinking about what they whether they want to keep playing? A guy like Cliffy, I don't know. A guy who says he's willing to consider a back-up role must figure that his body is breaking down.

I think Bulaga will be better on the left side than the right. I don't like the sound of any OL who is described as needing to add a mean streak. I'd love to see Carimi drafted for RT if the Packers could get him. He has some seriously superior size and run blocking skills. I'll be shocked if Johnny Jolly is back next year for anything other than a bargain basement deal.
