Arnold Ebiketie NFL Draft Prospect Profile and Scouting Report

NFL Prospect Profile: Arnold Ebiketie, EDGE, Penn State

Name: Arnold Ebiketie

School: Penn State University

Year: rSr

Position: Edge

Measurables: 6’2 3/8”, 256 lbs.

Stats:

General Info:

Arnold Ebiketie was born in Yaoundé, Cameroon and moved to the United States when he was 13 years old. He started playing football as a sophomore in high school at Albert Einstein High School in Kensington, Maryland. He was overlooked by many larger schools because he weighed merely 200 lbs. at the time, despite having 21.5 sacks as an edge defender in his senior season. Ebiketie committed to Temple University, where he played three seasons of football after redshirting his freshman year. He excelled in his junior season at temple, earning Second-Team All-ACC honors. After finally achieving statistical success and receiving national recognition, he decided to transfer to Penn State University for his senior season. The edge defender thrived in his lone season at Penn State, racking up 9.5 sacks (16th in the nation) and 18 TFLs (9th in the nation). This breakout senior season earned him First-Team All-Big Ten honors and set him up well for the 2022 NFL Draft.

Positional Skills:

Strengths

Arnold Ebiketie is a skilled edge defender with a great burst. Along with his explosive burst off the line of scrimmage, he possesses more strength in his hands than you would expect for a defender his size. Ebiketie is a technically sound player with great pursuit angles. His 9.5 sacks as a senior do not tell the entire story of his pass rushing ability, as he often finds a way to disrupt the passer even if he does not record a sack. He is disruptive in the run game as well, as evidenced by his 18 TFLs.

Weaknesses

While Ebiketie possesses great strength in his punch, he is often overpowered by larger (usually interior) offensive linemen if he does not win on his first punch. His size may be a problem for some, particularly his height. Offensive tackles were at times able to use his smaller length to their advantage by getting their hands on him first. While he has great burst off of the line of scrimmage, he also lacks the elusiveness to consistently win 1-on-1 battles against offensive linemen in good position.

Fit with the Packers:

An edge defender is considered by many to be one of the Packers’ biggest needs heading into the 2022 NFL Draft. Ebiketie is projected to be an early second-round pick with potential to sneak into the first round. This places him in “no man’s land” for the Green Bay Packers. The 28th overall pick may be too early to select him, but he could very well be gone by their next selection at 53. Green Bay’s defense likes to use many different edge rushers. For example, Jonathan Garvin played roughly 37% of the Packers’ defensive snaps in 2021. Arnold Ebiketie would provide the Packers a third reliable edge defender to compliment Rashan Gary and Preston Smith and provide them long-term depth at the position. If the Packers believe in Ebiketie, they may select him at 28, or they could hope he falls to 53. The most likely scenario for Green Bay, if they want Ebiketie, is that they trade down from 28 or up from 53 to select him in no man’s land.

I had Ebikitie and Sam Williams about equal until I looked at Williams a little more and heard about his off field issue. William's has no pass rush plan at all. He's a good athlete and is getting by on physical prowess. He's going to take some time to develop. I think Ebikitie is ready to go a little sooner.

Really like Bonitto as a DPR that can really cover. 59 seems about his area if they haven't gotten an Edge yet. They wouldn't have been interested in him under Pettine but maybe that's loosened some under Barry. Leonard Floyd is only 240 and Bonitto is up to 248 now. If Barry wants to do some exotic stuff with Mint Fronts Bonitto would be and excellent guy to have.

I tend to agree Ebikitie is more polished but that upside of Williams is tantalizing. I also like how he improved every year playing OLB and his size speed, athleticism will give Barry a player who can play all round the front 7.

He'd be available at 53 I think.

My gut says if you want NFL ready skills and elite athletic...take Leo Chenal at 53. After being on Leonard's NFL style 3-4, Barry would play him all around the front 7 too...and he won't require the patience of Williams.

And Leo has no off field baggage.

I'd really like Mafe but no way he's there at 53 and I'd rather see a DT at 28. Actually like to see a trade down to 33-38 range and take the best of Watson, Winfrey or Mafe.

Chenal was asked if any teams had talked to him about moving to Edge at the Badgers pro day and he said absolutely none. He's really good at blitzing from the middle, why change that?

Teams know a lot more about arrest situations than we do. I read a few years ago that a lot of them hire retired FBI guys temporarily in the Spring every year to dig into stuff like that.

40 is 4.65. If he adds muscle. It will slow him down. Better to grab a DL first.

For Edge it's all about th he 3-cone and the jumps. He had a 6.95 3-cone, good but not great, and a 38" vertical which is outstanding for 256 lb guy.

Since when does getting stronger slow you down? High school kids get bigger, stronger and faster all the time in college.

Scouts don't give a shit about 40 times. They're for fans to eww and aww about.

So true. Jerry Rice had a 4.71 40 time. He did OK.

40 times are respresentative of pure speed in shorts only. With all the gear on, and play speed in games, they can be rendered nearly irrelevant. I make note of 40 times for reference, but understand they are not representative of game speed, playing speed.

For most, if not all, positions the 10 yard split tells more about the player than the 40. Unfortunately for some reason it's harder to find pro day times for other tests.

Gutekunst does like edge pressure and he’s drafted high and paid money to get it. He’d be the guy who backed up Gary and PSmith.

Arnold’s a fav. From my notes…

EDGE Arnold Ebiketie - Penn St.
6-2.5 250 4.60 arms 34” hands 10.5”
ELITE SPEED. TWITCH. HANDS. Pass rush specialist. Can be overwhelming off edge.
FLUID. Brute strength to move blockers.
2021: 13 G 62.5 tackles 18 TFL 9.5 sacks 12 QB Hits 2 FF 32 QB Hurries!!!
R2

This is a super deep EDGE class. As much as Arnold is a favorite of mine, I know of bigger, faster, better favorites at EDGE, players I’d much rather have AND all of them will likely be there after Arnold is taken.

I get paid more than $100 to $200 per HOUR for working online. I heard about this job 3 months ago and after joining this I have earned easily $35000 from this without having online working skills .. Simply give it a shot on the accompanying site…
