CMIII bites on the Fake. Needs to spend more time in the film room.

We have all jumped all over CM, lets see how he responds to all the criticism he deserves. I'll give him the benefit of rust and frustration for now, but he needs a really good game against the queens. The roughing the passer was still inexcusable.

This is one of my favorite articles each week. I’m glad 75 wasn’t as rusty as we all thought. Broadcast didn’t help the perception of his play. 69 is an animal. Looking forward to him stymying Griffin/Hunter next week.

No mention of Gilbert running deep in the end zone stride for stride with Cohen? He single handedly saved that TD play. CM in his prime doesn't make that play.

It is comforting to see a recount after a second watching that backs my initial observation after watching the game live- Bulaga wasn't nearly as bad as many fans felt; he was rusty but not overtly over-matched vs. a premier pass rusher in Khalil Mack.

The difference between Khalil Mack's stat line and Nick Perry's stat line: Perry had +2 Tackles and Mack got a pick-six on a throw from Kizer that would not have happened had any competent QB been on the field.

If this is what the first real game action for a right tackle coming off an ACL vs. arguably the most complete pass rusher in the league looks like.. we're ahead of the curve.

Do you even watch what you post about? The clip above from the 2nd half shows a chip on Mack then Mack disengaging to drop off into coverage on Monty.

And you give Bulaga great credit for not giving up a sack to a guy in pass coverage?

Did you bother to count that of the 42 snaps only 14 came in the second half? Did you break those down into pass rushes v non rushes?

It sure does not appear so. It's fine to be a bulaga fan but not fine to misrepresent what happened.

Was thrilled when GB drafted Josh Jackson. Ecstatic after watching him in live NFL action. This secondary could be very good this year. And dominant in years to come.

Oh, and love that clip of Graham running the classic Richie Rodgers 1.5 yard out. A play that has caused me to pull out more hair over the last decade than pretty much any other Mike McCarthy habit.

Glad to hear that Graham was getting a great deal of attention. I'll take one catch for seven all day if it gives GB's other three WR's space.

I can't entirely blame the first clip on Bulaga. He seemed to be able to stifle Mack, but Kizer jumped right in front of him and gave him a clean angle for the sack.
We need some clips of the new looks and blitzes. There were some ballsy calls by Pettine like rushing two off the right from coverage on a bubble formation. They guy knew what to call.

After further review Rodgers plays QB as well if not better than any one that I have ever seen play the position. Also, Pettine's defense gave the Packers offense the chance to get back in the game. That gives me hope for this season.

Take out Kizer's 2nd quarter debacle and the Packers win this game going away. CM3 is still guilty of running himself out of plays and our opponents know it and use it to their advantage.

Move CM3 inside until Burks is ready and put Gilbert on the edge and our LB play improves. Put our best players on the field. Right now our 4 best LBs are Perry, Gilbert, Martinez and what is left of CM3. When Burks returns we can rotate CM3 onto the edge and inside depending on the opponent and down and distance.

If it was someone on another team it would be comical. Otherwise it has become painful to watch. Clay must know it and woukd explain why it seems out of frustration he had to just drill Trubisky the other night.

My concern with the offense after this game is I don't think we had a clear plan for using the TE position. What is the point for having Lewis, Kendricks and Graham? Mccarthy needs to use them better.
On defense, its obvious we need to not only put pressure on the opposing QB but to FINISH the play. Too many times we covered well but didn't get home. Trubisky should get credit for turning clear negative yardage plays into positives when he had nothing.

"Thought this was Clay Matthews' worst game as a Packer. He's been better in the last three or four years than the average fan will give him credit for, but he was awful on Sunday night. That better be rust or they have a serious issue at that spot and Gilbert and Perry need to stay healthy and play a ton of snaps."

Just saying, What IF, Mathews was just rusty Sunday night?

Maybe, just maybe he was rusty?

Hopefully that is the case. Hopefully the sky isn't falling and we are overreacting to just 1 bad game. At least that's what I'm hoping for.

Regardless of Mathews, they have to upgrade the depth. Fackrell was Terrible! On 2 of his 4 snaps he lost outside contain, didn't set the edge and the RB ran right where he should have been. It was UGLY!

Does anyone know who influenced MM's offense? His is not any form of the west coast offense that I can see.

From what I can see, the MM offense seems to be more of a hybrid of the Joe Gibbs Redskin offense X the traditional Run and Shoot.

Is anyone running a true version of the Syd Gilman/Bill Walsh/Mike Holmgren offense anymore?

I thought that Jamaal Williams did some committed blocking in that game - not the comment that you really want to make about a RB but he needs to get some credit for it. He's saving some roster room by not having to have a dedicated FB blocker. He really needs Jones' elusiveness and ability to bounce outside to make plays.

Did anyone watch the Philly\Atlanta game and see that double read option RB play. It takes a lot of skill but boy its effective

Only MM would have at his disposal, a veteran TE with a career long reputation as a premiere blocker, and use him sparingly. To do so when everyone knew that the Bears, with Mack especially ,would test Bulaga and McCray from the start is a headscratcher for sure.

Observations:

1. Clay will look much better against Minnesota.

2. I wouldn't play Rodgers against Minny. We can afford a loss, but this team can't lose Rodgers. Time for a week off to get that knee healthy.

3. Mike Daniels needs to play more snaps.

4. Cobb's focus on a couple catches in this game was tremendous. That 75 yarder and Kizer's throw were inches beyond defender's reach.

4. We'd better see much improved use of our TE's against the Vikes.

5. Our corner group looks flat-out scary.

6. This defense will change substantially with Burks on the field.

7. With DB-heavy packages, the job Clark and Wilkerson did limiting the run was remarkable--though largely overlooked.

8. We have a punter.

9. Risking Cobb on punt returns might not be the wisest move going forward.

10. Only 1 more week without Aaron Jones.

Bulaga started holding a lot in the 2nd quarter. While not obvious on these clips, the original game tape shows a lot. On the play that injured AR, Bulaga had his arm hooked around Mack, preventing him from getting to Rodgers first. As AR goes down and Mack lowers his center of gravity, Bulaga just about ends up having Mack in a chole hold.

IMP, Bulaga no longer has the lateral quickness needed to play OT against speed rushers. And his balance is a bit suspect against bull rushing. Not a good sign of things to come, unless the officials allow his to continue holding like crazy. My guess is that they will continue letting him hold a lot.

I thought Kizer looked decent. He seemed poised in the pocket save that strip sack. My feeling there was that drag route wasn’t one of his primary reads. And that he may not have had a clear view out that way with Mack still on the line dancing around the WR. It looked like Baktari was being push right into Kizer when he bailed. My guess is that the pump fake was to hold the DBs so one of the receivers could break into the right corner of the EZ. I think he was going to slide over to get a lane outside Mack, thinking Bulaga would drive him inside.

The INT on the screen was on the center releasing his man prematurely with a beeline to Kizer. He was almost on his butt when he threw that Favre like prayer. Yes, he should have just eaten the ball and taken the sack. But, M3 was in a hurry up offense. So, Kizer was ‘just trying to make a play’ (surrounded by 10 stumblebums). Just kidding. My take on that play was a piss poor block by the center followed up by a fantastic read by Mack. Mack saw where Kizer was looking and knew he was about to be tackled. So he broke off his rush into the passing lane. Sometimes the other teams’ defenses make great plays. It just happens.

Right now, I am worried about CM3 being on the field and the disappearance of Ha Ha Dix. Although both players made one or two decent plays, they need to do more or sit on the bench.
